#9 green, right in front of the clubhouse was by far the best conditioned of the day! Photo submitted by u547358672 on 03/15/2023

Flat and brown
Not much to write about. The fairways were all brown which was hard for an Oregonian like me to deal with. I am used to lots of green grass year around and tall trees. While I thought the good sand in the traps was a highlight, I found some traps had grass growing in them. This was one of the worst courses I have been on, but the upbeat attitude of everyone still made it a good experience.
Brown and out
I am from the Northwest so I am not used to playing courses that are burned out. It took a while to hit my "fairway" shots right. Got a 50 on the first 9 and a 40 on the back nine. The course was not in very good shape but it was better than playing in the rain or snow back home in December.
Pretty sweet little course
Grey Rock is a pretty course. Greens rolled true and quicker than any of the other Austin area courses I've played, including Falconhead, Kizer, Riverplace and Forest Creek lately. The sand traps are the only downside. I don't know what they're filled with but it is unlike anything you've ever seen on a golf course. Ugh.
Visit Grey Rock - by the way, after playing through a foursome on number 4, our threesome completed a Sunday afternoon round in just under 3:15.
Greens in great shape, wonderful layout!
Played there yesterday, course conditions are in about the best shape I've seen there during the past couple of years. The staff was helpful and even tried to get me out earlier than my scheduled tee time. There are a few brown spots in the fairways / dead areas off of the rough, but many new plats of sod are taking root. Go play it now!
I was left wanting.
The round took 5+ hours with no marshal to control the pace of play. The fairways had not been watered nor over seeded. I just expected more for the price paid.
Grey NOT!!!!
Wet Approach to every green...
Horrid Bunkers...Bunker Liners exposed on almost every bunker...they look like rat nests gone wild.
Austin City Courses are 1000% better!!!
Greens are in top three for Austin courses
Fairways were a challenge due to lack of water, but the greens, tee boxes and remainder of the facilities were excellent.
Fun From the Right Tees
Wide fairways and protected greens, not much OB or forced carries. Good deal at $41 (w/cart & range balls), not as good at $80+.
Seems like a members only GC, so staff wasn't that friendly.
Good course mostly.
This is a good challenging course. It is a good secondary choice for me. I prefer playing Falconhead. The course was well maintained but needed some work in the bunkers. I also think for casual play the greens are a little small and the pin placement made it tough for an average golfer like myself to make puts. Overall a good experience. I would play there again.
For the normal rate I felt this course is over priced. Great greens & traps. A little rough around the edges
The staff in the pro shot were slow at checking in. Unable to get any help at the bar/snack window at all The course Marshall & employees on the course were excellent.
Course gets a birdie, staff get a bogey.
From a strictly golf perspective, the course is great. It is well-kept, with challenging holes, but can be played higher-handicap golfers. The greens and fairways are in great shape, although there were some spots where poor drainage led to soggy turf. Pro-shop staff were friendly and had no problem with us showing up a couple of minutes before our tee-time. The problem was with the service staff - the beer girl came by on the front 9, took my card to run a tab, and was never heard from again. Apparently she didn't understand that opening a tab meant that subsequent visits were expected. Upon arrival at the bar after finishing the round, I retrieved my card but was told that I couldn't get a receipt because they had already shut everything down! It wasn't dusk yet and several groups were still on the course. Very disappointing to see the staff of such a nice club lose sight of customer focus.
Bring your A game
This course was formerly Circle C golf course. The course is first class and so are the extras. The driving range is included and nice except for the mats which left a residue on my clubs. Good putting and chipping greens. The course is interesting and requires good driving with an abundance of trees and traps. We selected the black tees and were rewarded with several long par fours and one par five that was 600 yards long. I started well but faded during the round. The greens are undelating and pretty fast, the fairways were mature and allowed a well struck divot, the roughs were even and forgiving. Even in the rough, around the many trees most of it was mowed and well manicured. There were some deep roughs that cost me a couple of penatly strokes and some water that was not noticeable from the tee (#18). The traps had the best, softest sand I have seen in this area of Texas, I felt like I was playing with the pros. I faded badly during the round and my driving cost me. ( I think that I was directly behind every tree with no shot.) Overall, this is not a course I would play everyday because of the price and difficulty. But if your game is tuned and you get a good rate, this course is a real treat.
great layout and secluded
Played on 10-13-12. Course is in very secluded area of South Austin. Club house is beautiful. Driving range was great with balls stacked up instead of in a bin. First tee is a bit far away from the clubhouse, thought that to be a bit odd. Course is beautiful and challenging. Greens have good undulation and are very fast (preferred). Greens were recently either punched or sanded and not in great asthetic shape but rolled well. I definitely have a great time at this course as there are few fairways that have houses lined on them. The best part is the seclusion however, the trees are awesome and the course has a great layout. Cart girl comes around often. All in all, a great course to play and would definitely recommend at the Golfnow rate of 69$. Any more than that then it is too far to drive to make it worth it. Great value.
Great layout needs some maintenance
Nice course but they need to do some work Sand space in some traps and your could see the weed stop fabric. Sand bottles on the cart empty. It was just the little details. Greens fee not a good deal at full price but on golfnow a good value.
I will play again but not at full price
The staff and course are both great
Had a great round of golf. The course has a mix of challenging shots as well as straight forward ones. I liked it because you could see most of your next shots -the holes are layed out in front of you. The course was very well maintained. Very pleasing to the eye.
The staff was friendly and knew the course. The facilities were very upscale.
A great value. I would recommend the course to anyone headed to Austin.
Nice course, lots of trees
Nice course, well maintained, cart girl was very present, overall a good place to play
beautiful, impressive experience on a nice property
we were impressed with the overall experience from course condition to club house and practice facility...we appreciated that range services were part of our fee...nice staff too...make sure you get a pin sheet -- for some reason they aren't always available...
Excellent layout.
I live in Meridian Subdivision which is next door to Grey Rock. I enjoy playing Grey Rock. It is one of my favorite courses in Austin. I would become a member if I could afford it.
Very good layout; usually in very good condition.
One of my 3 favorite daily fee courses in Austin (with Falconhead and Avery Ranch). This course is fun, yet challenging and is typically in great condition. I would definitely recommend it!
Had a great time
Course is nice, Greens are average and staff was pretty nice.
