#9 green, right in front of the clubhouse was by far the best conditioned of the day! Photo submitted by u547358672 on 03/15/2023

Nice setting in the southwest region of Austin, Tx. They have managed a well maintained course, that embodies the natural beauty of this area.
The only thing to truly consider when you choosing the course is the volume of golfers there. You are intermixed with members and non-members, which creates a disjunction in rate of play. (Some people having casual play, while others are putting lots of pressure on you.) Very enjoyable atmosphere overall, just be weary of the volume of golfers, and mixed attitudes.
A favorite course in Austin
Grey is always well maintained, in very good condition, ready to play. One of the best practice ranges in Austin. Very challenging but playable for anyone with 4 sets of tees to chose from. Greens roll true and are green; fairways are brown but it is February. Really like this golf course.
Bunker City, fun course.
Grey Rock is a fun course because it challenges you with its strategically placed bunkers. There are several holes that don't play particularly long but where there's a chance to GIR, there's a chance to be in the beach. Set up very well and challenging in its own unique way.
We had a great time playing!
Greens seemed to be too hard and had a difficult time getting the ball stick.
The 15th hole was closed for renovation and didn't know that until the starter told us.
Nice layout
Played here on 1/22/2013 and it was a beautiful day. The course was in good condition considering the winter grass in the fairways, but the greens were nice and green. The only thing I had a problem with was that nobody in the pro shop told us that hole 17 was closed for the day. The plus is that they are changing all of the bunker sand from that nasty brown to a nice fluffy white.
This course will challenge you with fairway bunkers and short holes so you have to play layups and smart golf here.
Nice course, staff members were unfriendly and rude
The course is fine for an afternoon of golf. The staff acts like it is privilege to play there. Having teed it up at Torrey Pines, St. Andrews and Royal County Down to name a few- I find it unnecessary for the staff to act like I am getting to play a country club for an incredible rate. Give me break.
Worth the time
This my favorite public course in Austin. It's a great round for the new, learning or experienced golfer. Greens, fairways & bunkers are always in great shape. Country Club feel at a decent price. Two thumbs up!!!!!
Nice location.
Grey Rock is set in an out of the way location with a laid back Texas Hill Country feel. Course layout and conditioning were good. Friendly staff.
Generally disappointed....
I have played Grey Rock twice in the last 6 months. Both times it took 4.5+ hours to play. General course condition is below average and the bunkers are terrible. Based on what you get for the price, I will likely not be heading back for awhile.
Flat and brown
Not much to write about. The fairways were all brown which was hard for an Oregonian like me to deal with. I am used to lots of green grass year around and tall trees. While I thought the good sand in the traps was a highlight, I found some traps had grass growing in them. This was one of the worst courses I have been on, but the upbeat attitude of everyone still made it a good experience.
Brown and out
I am from the Northwest so I am not used to playing courses that are burned out. It took a while to hit my "fairway" shots right. Got a 50 on the first 9 and a 40 on the back nine. The course was not in very good shape but it was better than playing in the rain or snow back home in December.
Pretty sweet little course
Grey Rock is a pretty course. Greens rolled true and quicker than any of the other Austin area courses I've played, including Falconhead, Kizer, Riverplace and Forest Creek lately. The sand traps are the only downside. I don't know what they're filled with but it is unlike anything you've ever seen on a golf course. Ugh.
Visit Grey Rock - by the way, after playing through a foursome on number 4, our threesome completed a Sunday afternoon round in just under 3:15.
Greens in great shape, wonderful layout!
Played there yesterday, course conditions are in about the best shape I've seen there during the past couple of years. The staff was helpful and even tried to get me out earlier than my scheduled tee time. There are a few brown spots in the fairways / dead areas off of the rough, but many new plats of sod are taking root. Go play it now!
I was left wanting.
The round took 5+ hours with no marshal to control the pace of play. The fairways had not been watered nor over seeded. I just expected more for the price paid.
Grey NOT!!!!
Wet Approach to every green...
Horrid Bunkers...Bunker Liners exposed on almost every bunker...they look like rat nests gone wild.
Austin City Courses are 1000% better!!!
Greens are in top three for Austin courses
Fairways were a challenge due to lack of water, but the greens, tee boxes and remainder of the facilities were excellent.
Fun From the Right Tees
Wide fairways and protected greens, not much OB or forced carries. Good deal at $41 (w/cart & range balls), not as good at $80+.
Seems like a members only GC, so staff wasn't that friendly.
Good course mostly.
This is a good challenging course. It is a good secondary choice for me. I prefer playing Falconhead. The course was well maintained but needed some work in the bunkers. I also think for casual play the greens are a little small and the pin placement made it tough for an average golfer like myself to make puts. Overall a good experience. I would play there again.
For the normal rate I felt this course is over priced. Great greens & traps. A little rough around the edges
The staff in the pro shot were slow at checking in. Unable to get any help at the bar/snack window at all The course Marshall & employees on the course were excellent.
