Walkable but challenging ; easy to maintain protocols
This was my first time walking the course with a push cart; there is some elevation so you may want to bring an umbrella on a hot summer day and plenty of liquids. The course was in good shape and I was able to check in, play a round with three friends and leave without direct contact with anyone. I did not use the practice range. I did go inside for water at the turn and they had appropriate partitions and distancing markers. All in all, a good experience. Walking with a push cart was about 5.7 miles.
Still a great course
Thanks to my wife who worked the beverage cart at Reston when we met, I was able to play that course 2-3 times a week for 3 years. That was 21yrs ago and we have never been back. So it’s a joy to see and play Reston. Great fairways and some really tuff greens. Don’t play Reston National if you don’t want to completely hooked on golf or become re-hooked. Awesome to play and I’ll be back fixing my game frequently.
Appreciate the 5 star review! See you soon.
Great course, not so great value
Played Reston National for the first time after one of my friends recommended it to me. We arrived late, the course staff were very understanding and got us on right away. The course is in very good condition. What I was most disappointed with was how the course had clearly not been maintained that morning. Understandably, it was a windy day, there were small tree branches on fairways and the greens were covered in debris. For the price, I expected the grounds crew to be working nonstop to keep everything clear. While beautifully kept other than that, this minor failure left me with a bad taste in my mouth.
Thanks for playing and leaving your feedback. Our small but mighty crew did the best to get the course back to its typical condition after the storm. Sorry we didn't quite get finished ahead of your round.
Fast Round
Started at 9:30am, teed off right on time and finished at 1:00pm. 3 1/2 hours is really nice for a round of golf.
Easy course to walk.
WOW! You made our day.
Nice course, good layout.
Nice course to play on. Greens and fairways in great shape. Bunkers horrible. I see golfers who are members who pay thousands of dollars per year move their ball out of bunkers because they are so bad. Worst in VA. For this you pay $80 midweek in late afternoon?
Much better value playing Herndon, Twin Lakes Pleasant Valley.
Thanks for playing and leaving this review. We typically renovate several bunkers every year. Because of the coronavirus, we have not been able to do the bunker work as planned. Our apologies.
Good value
The conditions the course are so much better than several years ago. Greens are in great shape! Course offers good challenges, particularly the long par 4's. Pace was good with a 4-hr round on crowded day mid-week.
Thank You!
Excellent conditions
Course was in great shape. Greens rolled smooth. The wider gap in tee times really helped with pace of play. Finished in 3 hours even with two people walking in our foursome.
Impressed
Wow, definitely impressed with this course. Definitely recommend.
And we are WOWed by you and your kind words.
Excellent public course
This is an excellent public course for DC residents if you don’t mind a drive along 66. Driving range could use a few updates but reminds me of country club style play (I’m originally from PA). Greens roll well, fairways are in good shape. A bit pricey for a weekend tee time if you take a cart, but overall one of the better values I’ve found in the area.
Appreciate the review. Glad you enjoyed the course.
Well worth playing
I’ve played here for 20 years and it’s currently in the best shape I’ve seen it in. Greens rolling nice, fairways are great, rough is thick, even tee boxes are pretty good. Staff leaves something to be desired but I can’t fault them too much during the COVID craziness we’re all in. If you haven’t played it this year, or it’s been a while, well worth coming back out.
Thanks for the 5 star review. Our maintenance team works hard to provide the best possible playing conditions. They especially appreciate your feedback.
pleasant early morning round
Because of CD-19, it's hard to get a tee time. I got a 7 am tee time - played the back nine. It was delightfully uncrowded, as the players starting at hole 1 had not yet reached the back nine. The fairways and greens are in very good shape. The one problem with Reston is that they close the range if there is rain somewhere in North America -- obviously kidding but not by much. You need to hit a few before a round and it is frustrating that they close it so often.
Thanks for playing and leaving your comments. Our range is usually closed Wednesday mornings for maintenance. Unfortunately, it doesn't drain well so we do sometimes have to keep it closed for a bit after it rains.
Outstanding Course
Reston National is a beautiful and challenging golf course. The course is well maintained and the staff is excellent. I particularly appreciate the staff’s effort to provide a safe playing environment during the Pandemic.
Thanks for 5 stars!
Will return
I walked 9 holes late this afternoon but noticed I had two tee times -- at 5:30 and at 5:50. I hope I wasn't charged twice.
Great Escape
My golfing pal and I live in no-golf locations so we decided to make a break for it to Virginia....had a great day on a fabulous, classically laid out course at Reston....had not swung a club for six weeks and Reston National was perfect. It is a fair course with challenging holes in the mix. The condition was excellent albeit a little wet in spots due to tremendous rains the night before. Staff was wonderful and even took the time to ask how our round was at the end of the day....reasonably priced and a nice quiet location. Couldn’t have been happier and will definitely go back....
Thanks for the review. Feel free to make a break for Reston National again in the future.
WOW! Appreciate the 5 stars!
