Challenging and fun
This course has several unique holes to keep it interesting. Elevated greens are common so use an extra club or two on your approach. Greens were excellent, fast and rolled true. Fairways were also in good shape. Staff was very friendly. The only knock was one beverage cart for the whole course.
Target practice layout
It's a good course. Not really "resort" course quality, more like a muni. No GPS in carts, no water bottles provided. They run tee times on 8 minute intervals so 4.5 hours at minimum.
The layout is target practice. Plenty of doglegs and elevation changes on the course. Both uphill and elevated tee box par 3's. Heavy slopes around greens so you need to hit them. Lots of levels on many greens with some challenging pin locations. Not many holes where having distance helped you. Hole 16 has the best view - elevated tee box par 5 into the mountains. There was a water hazard on 2 holes but it didn't really come into play.
Narrow fairways. Plenty of desert rocks and shrubs that balls roll into. Course is in a residential community so expect barking dogs/music, even had some people who were walking their dogs on the course and watching us. You don't finish hole 9 at the clubhouse, no way to order food at the turn. Drink cart came around 2x.
Starter would shout at everyone on the practice green/range when it was their turn, and there's 2 courses going off every 8 minutes, kind of a weird set-up here. Starter would push people up tee time slots at his discretion, sent a five-some off after us.
Greens were soft and ran fast. Fairways were overseeded and had good roll out. Rough is limited to green areas and only about an inch. Tee boxes were not level on several holes. Pin placement made for a difficult day.
Great views, challenging holes
Great day at el Conquistador course. Greens were fast and lots of undulation! Tee to green conditions were fantastic - loved the rugged looks off the fairway too -- Keep the ball straight as lots of wash or red staked areas!
Good pace, very good conditions.
Starter JD was great. Got us off quick. Pace as great. Finished in 3:15. The members I played were friendly and helped me navigate the course. I look forward to coming back soon.
Great course!
I have always wanted to play in Arizona so I stopped in Tucson on my way out west to La La Land. As soon as I arrived, I was greeted by the head greenskeeper. He brought a cart to me and put my clubs in the back. He even gave me great advice and told me to move my car as it was right next to the #1 fairway. I then went to check in and was greeted by another friendly young lady working the pro shop. Since the day was cool, gloomy and dreary, she said I could start play whenever I was ready and even allowed me to play on the more scenic course, La Canada. She also advised me of the free range balls included in the green fee. The course was magnificently kept and the mountainous backdrop was spectacular. Wildlife was abundant-from rabbits to road runners to soaring hawks. The greens were excellent and since I was playing alone, the course of play was quick. Even if I’d been paired up with another group, it would have been okay. All the cart paths were in great shape with easy directions to find the next hole. All in all I would highly recommend the course to anyone.
Golf
Beautiful area. Golf course was in great shape and the mountains beautiful
6 some
we played behind a 6 some and it was very slow............ please don't do that to golfers.......ok?
a 6 some --- BAD
we played behind a 6some. the ranger was out and when i mentioned it, he said the coarse was playing slow............ wow.
Fun course that requires some shot making
The course was in very good shape and it was a lot of fun to play. I played from the blues and on most holes I was hitting a hybrid or long iron off the tee with a short iron in. There is not a lot of room and hitting the fairway is key. Amazing views of the Tucson valley and Mount Lemon
