Sonoran Course at Omni Tucson National Golf Resort & Spa

About
The Omni Tucson National Resort offers two championship courses that offer two distinctly different rounds. The Catalina Course, the resort's original course, offers a more traditional parkland layout while the Sonoran Course offers a challenging game of true desert golf. Although Catalina is the more famous of the two for hosting a number of PGA Tour events over the years, the Sonoran is just as formidable a test despite being 600 yards shorter than its sister course. Sonoran features a tricky, undulating terrain that is covered with 69 large, strategically placed bunkers. Two lakes come into play throughout the golf course as well. In addition to a number of challenging holes, the layout offers interesting risk-reward opportunities including drivable par 4s. One of the most notable holes is the 15th, a dramatic par 5 that requires a blind approach uphill to a bunkered green.

#16 plays fairly steeply uphill. I was 16 inches for a birdie, after hitting a solid 135 club from 109 out. Photo submitted by Jonathan5270953 on 08/14/2013

Great time to play
1/3 the price as during the season and same nice course
Get out here
This course is in such good shape right now. I've played it twice and it was $80 each time. It's worth that and more. It is hot, they do have water, very girls and someone driving around with cold towels. Greens are a 9 or 10. It's a good time for the heart and the money
Golfing Amenities and Staff
Great layout
Great customer service
(Clubhouse, starter, course amenities, cold towels)
Nice course
Played the dessert course in summer so price was good. If you like dessert courses this one was nice. Pace of play was ridiculously slow. Member groups basically stopped play so bad I didn’t even finish my round.
Don't book within an hour of a member group if you can avoid it.
Get out there
This place is in tip top shape. Enjoyed the course so much, the greens didn't break as much as you think. Great time to play for $80. Wait a little later and $55.
Highly Disappointed
Been waiting to play this course for years, heard wonderful things. Was super disappointed. Layout is really traditional with a little character. Super tight. Placement golf is a must. The conditions were horrid, bare spots in the fairway, dead greens that didn’t roll true at all. Rock hard bunkers. Tee setup could be drastically tweaked imo. Three major sets of tees are 7300, 6600 and 5700. Most casual golfers are most comfortable around the 6000-6300 range. Not having a set of tees in that range seems silly to me and made the course almost impossible for me at 6600 but would’ve been way too short at 5700. After monsoon season I’m hoping the conditions will improve drastically. This course seems to have a ton of potential.
Summer Rates
Awesome course when you get to pay summer rates. Great lay out and challenging holes.... would love to play other side.
Tucson Omni Golf
This course is in outstanding condition. The staff was very accommodating. Would love to play it again.
Fun Sonora course
Fun course. Being paired up with strangers on the same cart is a poor rule at this club and for the game. Especially at slower times. Unfortunately some of the staff and other golfers/members aren’t very friendly about letting you take your own cart.
