Sonoran Course at Omni Tucson National Golf Resort & Spa

About
The Omni Tucson National Resort offers two championship courses that offer two distinctly different rounds. The Catalina Course, the resort's original course, offers a more traditional parkland layout while the Sonoran Course offers a challenging game of true desert golf. Although Catalina is the more famous of the two for hosting a number of PGA Tour events over the years, the Sonoran is just as formidable a test despite being 600 yards shorter than its sister course. Sonoran features a tricky, undulating terrain that is covered with 69 large, strategically placed bunkers. Two lakes come into play throughout the golf course as well. In addition to a number of challenging holes, the layout offers interesting risk-reward opportunities including drivable par 4s. One of the most notable holes is the 15th, a dramatic par 5 that requires a blind approach uphill to a bunkered green.

Sonoran
Rode the Blues (6529/70.7/129) in 3H, 15M mid morning. Most of the round as a single, part as a 3some and a few holes as a 4some. 107, clear and calm on the weather front. Par 70 courses I usually do not care for. This one is an exception. Very challenging layout with many forced carries. Very tough driving course. Many holes turn even though there are hardly any true dog legs. More elevation changes than I would have expected. Plus grade for the layout, but you better play the correct tees and keep it straight or it could be a long day on this course. Tees semi lush, mostly good with a few needing divot repair. Fairways and rough were both lush and excellent to play from. Rough not tall or overly penal, the ball sat up nice. Sand traps were well maintained with nice quality sand. Greens rolled very nice. Medium to medium fast and firm. I made more than my normal share of putts on these greens. Customer service outstanding. They changed out my cart in a matter of minutes and Daulton in the pro shop in particular was especially friendly and customer service oriented. My towel was left in the old cart, he quickly tracked it down and was calling me to come back and get it before I even left the property. Saw the cart gal once, $5 for an Arnold Palmer is a bit steep. Very fun course to play on a day I was hitting it well from tee to green. Good collection of holes, never felt like I was playing a hole I just played a few holes ago. Highly recommended.
Can’t be bear
The staff is very friendly and helpful. The pace of play and condition of all parts of the course were great.
Not a walkable course
The Greens on both courses at Omni are fantastic, the staff and practice facilities are fantastic, but the Catalina course is by far the preferred 18 here.
This is simply not a very walkable 18, with some awkward holes (15) not conducive to high handicap players. In addition, some of the forced carries in the middle holes are unrealistic given the low course rating and slope.
That said, if you want to sandbag your handicap for your next club tournament, this is the course for you.
Great Round!
We enjoyed a great round of golf. Played quickly, greens and fairways in great shape. We reached a twosome in front of us, must had been a member with his girlfriend hitting three balls each which was the only negative. Slowed us down otherwise we would had been done in under 4 hours.
Super course
Would play again. I suffer from a bad back but found the course better on my back than most.
great course
The course was in excellent condition. Greens fast but fair. Played in 3/I/2 hours. Will be back next March.
visitor
alot of fun, group was very friendly, pace of play was good, played in 4 hours, course in nice shape.
challenging round
Excellent turf on greens and fairways. A pleasure to pay no matter golfers skill. Great views and courteous and helpful staff. Can't wait to comeback and play the sister course, Catalina.
relaxing outing
course in great shape with great staff.
picturesque
Tee boxes for everyone
A nice fun golfcourse for everyone. might be a little short for the long hitters
Nice golf course
Played the Sonoran and it was in great shape. Pace of play was great, less than 4 hrs. Greens rolled fast and true.
Very Poor Value
I was very disappointed in the Omni Tucson Sonoran course. The layout of many holes is "uninspired" at best -- comparable to an average muni. Flat, no distinguishing features, no interest in the layout, course condition was poor-to-fair at best. Of the six courses I played in the greater Tucson area, this was the worst value by far. I will not play it again.
Tucson National Sonoran
Great course on a beautiful day!
Afternoon round, not very busy so we played at a comfortable pace. Wonderful course in great shape and a decent challenge. Will be going back!
nice course
got a great deal thru golf now with a hot deal buy 1get, 1 free (up to $40) ended up being $47.50 (total) for 2. sonoran was challenging but very enjoyable to play, ALOT of bunkers. 1st time at this course as it is always to costly for me to play.
Men's Room
As an older player, I look for the easy of men's room availability and I rate it poorly. I had to walk a long way to use it and there were no signs or directional signs. Very poor.
Layout
Good course, ladies front tees are friendly and plenty of challenges. Only hole on back nine #16 I believe was huge elevation change to the green that was out of place. Otherwise great experience
Nice cource.
Great layout. For People plays first time Is confusing to find a pat becouse it's mixed with other course(Catalina).
Few more briges could be added instead driving a cart on the send.
Tucson National Sonoran Course
Summer golf in Tucson is like a bar date, hot and cheap and you better be sure to stay hydrated.
Tucson National is top of the line golf and while the Catalina course is my all time favorite, the Sonoran Course is definitely in my top 10. Course conditions are always outstanding and while the greens were a bit slow after aeration, the course still didn't disappoint. If you have a chance and have never played it, do so and you will not be sorry.
The double punched greens
They had punched the greens twice within a week making them almost unplayable. Was like putting a ping pong ball on wet concrete. No warning posted on GolfNow.

VERY NICE GOLF COURSE. I BOOKED ON GOLFNOW.COM AS A SINGLE BUT GOT PAIRED UP WITH COUPLE GUYS. THE ONLY THING THAT I DIDN'T LIKE THAT MY TEE TIME WAS CHANGED WHILE I WAS ON THE DRIVING RANGE. I RUSHED TO THE FIRST TEE ASSUMING THAT I WAS GOING TO PLAY AT 7 AM BUT GOT BUMPED UP TO LATER TEE TIME. I DON'T BELIEVE THIS EVER HAPPENED TO ME BEFORE.
