Penderbrook Golf Club

Course was in great shape. Greens were very good “fast”. Pace of play was spot on 4hr 10 minutes for the round. Everyone very friendly.

Had a great first outing here and met some great guys who were playing Penderbrook for their 40th time this year. Quite an endorsement. Course was in excellent condition for this time of year and well-managed during times of Covid. Great experience!

the course had lots of wet conditions when we havent had rain in days. There are many areas being resoded which makes an already shorter course tighter. The staff was excellent and the others on the course were very nice. The course was okay but not in the shape to justify some of the greens fee rates, I have seen there in recent memory.

Played for the first time today and it was a pleasant surprise. Course wasn't anything special but it was nicer then I expected. A couple holes had very unique designs that kept the round interesting. Some holes they are obviously still repairing but all in all most holes were in good shape. It's slightly annoying that carts are cart path only bit that's not a big deal. Will 100% be back.

I didn't play the course the last six months and today I was surprised how much has been going on. A very positive development - better course conditions, some greens redone, it is nicer than before.

Normally a great layout but with all the construction going on, you feel like you’re playing on a construction site. Glad to see all the repairs going on but to me, $76 to play right now just isn’t worth it. Can’t wait to play it when it’s in better condition again.

Maybe next year the grass will have grown in and the fairways and fringe will be in good condition.

Second time playing at Penderbrook. The course is beautiful but very challenging as the fairway is quite narrow. Lost quite a few balls when my Driver slice or draw

Great value. Glad I like to walk since it is cart path only. Looks like they have been doing a lot of work and new grass that was planted needs to grow in. Greens were still growing back since air rating but were in good shape.

Good layout, with some well maintained greens. Fairways were in pretty rough shape in spots, but that doesn’t matter to me as much. Greens were excellent. Pace of play was abysmal. Our foursome waited on every single shot, and two of us were walking. Another course trying to pack in tee times at the expense of pace of play. Took us over two hours to finish 7 holes, which is where I stopped.

I started playing Penderbrook a little more than a year ago. I would say, at the time, it needed some work. However, they have been systematically upgrading and improving everything over time.

I feel the club has a lot of character from the super friendly staff to Mulligan's Pub. (I heartily recommend the Sunday buffet. Great food, great value for money,)

The staff is on top of pace of play more so than I have seen at other clubs, which is appreciated. I consider this a very "fair" course for the player, in that you can play a good round without having to be lucky. While there are many courses closer to us, Penderbrook is worth the extra few minute drive.

I live here in the community and have watched the improvements yearly. It has become a very enjoyable course. Not necessarily for a beginner but the staff if very helpful. The fairways are tight and the bunkers are being upgraded to an excellent surface. Due to the extreme wet weather this summer some of the fairways need a good drying out but that should happen this fall. Kudos to the staff and maintenance staff. This is a public course after all.

This was the first time that I have played this course. Staff was extremely friendly. Greens were true and in very good condition. I will be back.

Considering the price of the course I was surprised at the course condition. Fairway edges were not mowed very well And you could lose a ball two feet off the fairways and sand traps were basically like solid dirt. Also, the course was dry and hard and yet it was cart path only. I couldn’t understand that.

I tend to pop up here about once every three years to see how it's doing and was impressed with what I saw yesterday: Ownership is investing significantly in the course, with new bunker/green surrounds in place on a number of holes (including 3 and 7) and a major tree-removal/daylighting effort on 7-9 and 18. It's good to see this course getting some love and attention after its up-and-down (mostly down) history over the past 20+ years.

Despite that, I put conditions as "average" as they vary hole-by-hole from "Excellent" to "really bad". As other reviewers note, the greens are in excellent condition, the bunkers are in good shape, but the rough was unmowed, uneven, and penal. Fairways ranged from good to virtually unplayable, such as on the 8th.

And while I appreciate ownership's investment in the course, the layout will never be a great one...tightly hemmed in by townhouses, single-family homes, and Route 50, it's a narrow, target-style course that never quite flows well: back-to-back-to-back long water carries on 8-9-10, the weird short par4 's on 11 and 12, followed by a few solid holes coming in. Nos. 3 and 13, both short par 3's over hazards, are probably the most memorable holes.

They're offering a discount for walking, but beware: a long trek between 12 and 13 and through the neighborhood between 17 and 18 means you'll essentially walk 20 holes for the price of 18.

Penderbrook's advantage is being centrally located in Fairfax County, making it convenient for many and that's worth keeping it in mind, especially if the current improvements can be matched with overall maintenance.

Nice course with good variety of holes. Tight fairways and tough rough. Recent rain made fairways soggy and a few were in bad shape. Like a few courses around here it has poor drainage in a few holes. Looks like they are trying to restore the bad fairways. Greens were in very good shape and putted very true.

$70 seems high for a round on this course but being Saturday morning and rates at nearby courses, it’s not out of line.

Staff were great. I booked as single and no one else booked the tee time. Starter asked 4some ahead of me to swap tee times so I was first one out and able to finish in a bit over 2 hrs.

Will play here again but may wait for next season to see if fairways improve.
