What a gem! But in the rough!
Water, change in elevation, undulating greens--what more to ask for?!? A bit more TLC to the grounds
Nice Round
Despite the time of year, the course was in good condition. Only downfall is the pace of play and the lack of marshall’s to keep the ten stroke practice pre-swing players moving along. As if then ten practice swings weren’t enough, they take a few post swings as well. I’ve had to skip holes more than once, but always find myself (and others in my group) going back for more.
Nice late winter outing
The course was in decent condition, there are remains from several bunker and sprinkler projects still being cleaned up as well as tree removal. Once that is all cleaned up, it will be interesting to see how the course comes in this spring. Club house check in was quick, staff friendly. The grill was being renovated and does not open until March 2018, so bring your own drinks or snacks.
Unreasonable rain check policy and Rude attitude of the staff
I had a terrible experience in Penderbrook today. When we (4) finished the fifth hole, it began to rain. We tried to keep playing but could not, because it was pouring and cold rain. We asked raincheck, but were rejected. The manager said they cannot give any rain checks when the weather forecast said it would rain but we came. Never experienced in other courses. Penderbrook's rain check policy is the worst. Felt like we were robbed.
Enjoyed the course
Great value, greens in great shape, looking forward to returning.
Why even have a starter or tee times??
Starter seemed to be a nice guy that has no clue! The starter didn't go by the actual time and scheduled tee times....He told me and my playing partner the other 2 people scheduled to play with us wanted to play alone, which is fine, so he sent them off ahead of us. After waiting for two more twosomes to tee off he said we were next. We said great and we're putting on the practice green, which is right next to the tee. As we walked to our tee we noticed a couple walking in front of us to the senior tees. I went to the starter and asked what was going on? He then said we could go after them! I repeated to him he said we were supposed to tee off next, and reminded him he told us we were next? He looked at me and said "well I told them they could go ahead"! It is was it is, but the round was extremely slow, with no marshals seen until the 17th hole! Poor tee time management was the cause. The only thing that saved the day was the beautiful weather! I would not recommend playing this course if you know how to play and don't like to wait between every shot! Not a good experience this day!
Play earlier in the season
Course condition pretty good, unfortunately greens were sanded.
Difficult
Bring your A game. This course is not easy but it is fair. Put it in play and you will score. Not for the faint of heart.
Decent course for the price
The course is fairly decent, but recent aeration of the greens makes putting a nightmare. Also fresh sod was placed in front of the greens making it very soft and unpleasant to play from. Highlight of the round- a water pipe broke on the 2nd hole releasing a 20ft gyser that flooded the front part of the green... we were unsure what to do but ended up playing through while maintence didn't seemed to concerned about the ordeal. Shouldn't pay more than $30 for the course
Poor upkeep.
This could be a pleasant round of golf if course was maintained better. The fairways were dry and choppy, greens covered with divots.
This could and should be a wonderful course but the upkeep is very poor and there must not be sufficient resources dedicated to improving conditions.
The pro shop looks like it was raided, virtually no products available-shelves were bare!
Perhaps after a long rainy spell it would be a better round, but middle of summer-not so much.
Ok layout, SLOW
Played on a Saturday morning. Course layout was nice. Greens in good shape, rolling true, the rest of the course was not in great shape. Patchy fairways, shaggy tee boxes, and lots of dead , dry spots. Overall about what you would expect for the money this time of year.
Pace of play was very slow. Starter didn't seem to have much control and no marshall or Ranger to be seen to keep people moving. After the starter told us "it's moving pretty well, probably take you around 3.5 hours", ended up being a 5 and a half hour round. I'd definitely give it another shot just not on a Saturday.
This course needs work
Being as I live in the golf community, I am able to play this course quite often. Recently I have noticed a major lack in care towards the course conditions. There are huge holes in fairways, sprinklers go off while golfers are playing, and the pins are never all in the same positioning for the day. To add onto that, I've noticed some things with the workers that shock me. One guy rides his maintenance cart erratically, cutting across fairways while golfers are in play. I believe this man is head of maintenance for penderbrook. And for the first time ever, I had a very nasty experience with the man in the pro shop who gave myself and the golfers I was with attitude when asking about rain checks. Overall, if you end up having to pay the full $50 to play here, I would suggest saving your money or spending $10-$20 more on a nicer course.
STARTERS NEEDS TO BE CHANGED
I played here on sunday the 11th of june. THe gentleman at the check in desk was nice enough but seemed pretty busy. Course was in great shape and has improved over the years. But who the hl hired the starters this year? The gentleman in the pro shop pointed to two kids who were both talking on the phone blatantly ignoring golfers who needed assistance. The pace of play was horrible. With 2 starters not one could do a marshall lap and try to speed up pace of play? Instead i see both of them laughing and giggling inside the cart barn. Wish i could give this course a better rating its in great shape.
