River Marsh Golf Club - Hyatt Chesapeake Bay

My wife and I have played this course 20 times over the past 10 years. It was a disaster today- I’ve never seen such awful conditions and the shame of it is last year it was beautiful. I don’t think it’s savable. Every aspect was real bad.

Very sad to see, it’s gone.

I’m guessing short staffed due to pandemic as IV e barely seen 2 or 3 greens keepers in four outings this year. The sand traps have been totally abandoned and some fairways have some blight. But it’s a fun course and pretty and I’m sure will be back to it’s full glory some day!

The course is in rough shape, very rough shape compared to what it used to be. I'm willing to give it a pass for now, but there will not be an excuse in a month or two for it not being in better shape. As part of the Hyatt resort, it is comparable to the level of maintenance the resort has received this year as well.

I’ve played this course dozens of times over the years — it’s always been in great shape and the layout is really phenomenal. Because of this, I was shocked when we played today. I should have known something was up with the price we got for a Sunday morning, however, the shape of course doesn’t even justify the $60. Nearly every bunker has been completely overtaken by weeds, some 2-3 feet tall. The fairways looked as if they had not been mown for a week, and weeds had overtaken most tee boxes and many fairways. I don’t know if Hyatt has just written off the golf course and stopped staffing the grounds crew, but it’s truly too bad. Sad to see such a nice course slowly fade to a field.

I played the course for the first time expecting good conditions with sand traps being questionable because of the covid situation. The course was not as well kept as expected as I have played several courses on the Eastern Shore in much better shape. I expected at least as good as area courses especially for it being a Hyatt property. The course didn't appear to be kept up with water as other courses have in the area. I didn't expect the sand traps to be raked throughout the day but I did expect the course employees to run a rake tractor through the traps each morning so there was some playability. This was obviously not done and it appears all care of the bunkers have been abandoned. Several had grass (much) growing in them so giving yourself a decent lie was not possible. That said I would play it again if they put more care in keeping it up.

The Bad: Not much. It would have been great if the driving range were open and water coolers were out, but that is just the way it is. Covid sucks.

The Good: While the course starts off a little busy with surroundings (buildings, roads, etc), those sights are left behind by the fourth hole. There are plenty of hazards to engage even the most conservative player ant this keeps the course fun. The 17th and 18th holes make this course. 17 should be nicknamed "The old ball eater" as the carry over Shoal Creek can be a bit intimidating . 18 will pep you back up though with an excellent view of the Choptank river and an easy birdie for most.

I may have played better, but I have definitely played worse for the dollar. Don't miss this one if you are coming through.

I have played River Marsh quite a few times, this time was completely different. The staff at the course were very friendly and accommodating. The course condition was way below par. For such a great layout and destination to see a lot of weeds in the fairway and rough was disappointing. The traps were a mess and the greens were pocked with numerous ball marks. When I asked about the condition of the course, I was told that there was only one man taking care of the whole course. That is crazy!!! River Marsh please hire some people and get that course back to the incredible course it once was. On a high note the price was right at only $33.

This course was not in great shape. Looks like they have let it go. Not sure if it was because of the virus or not. Last time we played here a few years ago it was one of the best around. Do love the 17th and 18th finishing holes.

Course is a great sitting w beautiful river views. Course is in great shape and the employees were great

Great layout and scenic views of the Choptank River. 17 & 18 will bring you back to paly again.

Was very disappointed in speed of greens. Very slow for an up-scale type course.

Fairways and greens in good shape, but the rough doesn't look like it's been cut this year. Good luck finding your ball if you miss the F

Nice course but greens were deceptively slow. Good mix of challenges. Fair layout for all golfers. Beautiful views.
