Perfect Day
Lots of rain left things a bit damp but the greens were a treat, perfect shape and fairways as good as some country clubs. I will definitely play this gem again.
Loved this course
We played the red and white courses (there are 3 9s). This is an older style course and the pace of play was excellent as our round lasted only 3:30 hours (7:42 tee time on Saturday.) This is a beautiful course, shorter compared to more modern courses, and I suppose I like it so much because it really suited my eye on most holes (right handed who like to fade off the tee). The course is an excellent shape, too.
Hidden gem, great Hot deal, course worth well more than I paid
Scored a $14 including fees "Hot Deal" on a Friday afternoon, the course is easily worth $40 with a cart, mostly considering the distance it is from my home, if closer I would be willing to pay more. I ended up playing as a single as I had car issues on my drive out and the two-some I was supposed to play with had already went our B4 I arrived. Monte at the pro shop was very understanding when I told him I was going to be a little late due to my car issues and got me right out when I arrived. The course is one of the best conditioned courses I have played recently as the heat wave we have been experiencing has made it tough on a lot of the VA/DC metro area courses. Fairways were full and plush, rough was moderately tough, but not unplayable. Greens were terrific other than being a little slower than I prefer, never had one putt bounce off line. I played the Blue and the Red nines, I am good with any combo of their three nines, but I truly like the Blue to be one of the two I play. It offers a little more length and truly makes for a more challenging round, IMHO. I say if you have the opportunity get out to SVCC and give it a shot.
27 Holes of Golf ... Played 'Em All!
A friend and I decided to play 18 holes at Shenandoah Valley to catch-up after having not played a round together in a few weeks. Arrived to find a HS tournament being held -- not announced on the website, to the best of our knowledge -- on 2 of the 9 hole layouts; shotgun start, crossing over between White and Blue courses. After debating cancelling our tee time, we played the Red, ate lunch, and, when HS kids were done, played the White. Fairways and greens in good condition, if not a little slow and wet (relative to what I had most recently played). Sand traps on Red and White were in fine shape. We also went on to play the Blue for $10/per player. I believe the greens on the Blue were slower than those on either the Red or White, and several of the traps held water from either prior rain(s) or watering the course. I don't mind fixing others' ball marks, and I got the opportunity on each of the 9 hole layouts.
Pace of play seemed to be a concern for the players here (note: not the staff) -- those behind our twosome wanted us to play absurdly fast rather than correctly fast (good cart golf, carrying multiple clubs, keeping pace with the foursome in front of us), which was off-putting (to me). "Hurried" golf is not necessarily fun golf, and we played 27 holes (and ate lunch) in 6 hours; I'd say we played appropriately fast!
Friendly starter, Pro Shop staff, and at the turn, where where we ate lunch while waiting to play our 2nd nine holes.
Vacation Golf Outing
Very nice course, conditions were perfect and staff was very friendly. Would definitely play there again.
This course is taken care of very well
If you are not local and willing to drive, this course is well worth the trip out. Very forgiving course; conditions were excellent. You can tell the team has spent effort and time to ensure the course presents well.
Hot summer golf!
Knew it was going to be hot for our 1:00 tee time. Quick lunch then off for the round (great club sandwich!). Have to say I love all 3 nines at this course. Possibly due to the summer heat, the rough is up and the greens are slower than usual. Played the blue tees and they were all the way back! Representatives from the VSGA were on site to review course ratings. Looking forwards to another round there soon on a cooler day!
Excellent course that wasn't on my radar!
Just a disclaimer****I'm 44 yrs old and only have been playing for 1 year.****
The staff was awesome. When I arrived (about 45 minutes before my tee time) I had no idea where to check-in, where the range was, or which courses I may be playing. As soon as I found the Pro Shop, the starter was out front and helped me figure everything out. (Really nice guy. Wish I had his name.) After I checked in, got some range balls for $5 and made it to the practice tee's I had about 25 minutes to warm up. I would have liked more time but that's my fault for not getting there sooner. As I was keeping an eye on the time and trying to get as loose as possible, I was pleasantly surprised when the starter came to get me and followed me to the 1st tee on the Blue course to make sure I met my playing partners for the day and direct us on what to expect with pace of play. (We were 3 total and there were foursomes ahead and behind)
I was paired with a father and his young son. The father and I hit from the white tee's and the son hit from the gold/yellow. I found that even with 2 beginners and a mid-handicap we were able to keep a good pace. Typical bottlenecks on the par 3's but we finished the Blue/Red course in just under 4 hours. (The course was packed since the weather was perfect. 70. Cloudy and 0 humidity)
Tee boxes were in good shape as you could always find a flat spot to tee up. The fairways ran well. There were a bunch of downhill shots that helped with some distance for me. The rough was reasonable. Not too high where you could loose a ball on a slight miss hit. The greens were faster than expected considering they were a little soft. A few un-fixed pitch marks but I've never played a course that didn't have any.
Reasonable rate on GolfNow for a holiday weekend. $39 compared to $50 and worth every penny even if I had to pay the full price. I will return!!! (maybe today if the rain hold out long enough!!!!!!!)
Great day.
Barb who waited on us is fantastic. The assistant was a little rude, but I know he's a really nice guy so I'll give him a pass. :)
Day @ Shenandoah Valley
Even with the massive rain that had come the night before the course was in good condition. The layout if fair and rewards good shots and can cause issues with poor shots. The white side is very playable with length not being necessary to score well, the blue is the opposite with tighter fairways and a more challenging layout. Overall, good the greens were recently plugged and sanded which was not great but that is a part of golf.
Sunday afternoon golf
Enjoyed playing the round. Course was not crowded and we were able to play at a great pace.
Nice course, nice people
I've played here a couple times and have always had a good experience. We played blue/red this time. Both were very well manicured, greens were smooth with few ball scars. Fairways were in great shape and the rough was cut down to about 2 inches but played tougher than it looked due to the thickness from all the rain, plus we played in the early dew. Bunkers on the red course were outstanding, don't see nice fluffy white sand too often like this around this area. All 3 sides are similarly hilly but not over the top. A very fair challenge for the average golfer. The clubhouse is really nice and the carts were in great shape. One negative, range was mats only on this day, not sure if that is always the case as it seems they have grass tees just couldn't use them this day. Staff made us really feel at home.
Course has a number of blind tee shotsCourse
Course was in great shape with slow greens when moist. some blind tee shots and hilly with large greens.
Shenandoah Balley
Great course that is in great shape.
red has small greens
The red course is really small greens but they have a nice par 3 White is nice but blue is the best
This course has great features
Great course I'm a member there if you looking to have a fun round of golf go there great course
Rough Round
1st time in a long time I've played here and there is a reason why I don't normally play here. Staff was great, rate was great, pace of play was horribly slow. Member tournament was going on and unfortunately they thought they were professionals to the 10 degree. Tee boxes weren't mowed, other than that course was in great shape and the greens were fast. Didn't finish. couldn't stomach the wait. Maybe next year.
Great layout for a 1966 generation course
Note: Aeration is beginning on the fairways and soon the greens.
Just a really nice layout; Forgiving for errant shots with huge old growth trees protecting the fairways.
