Love this course
My husband and I always enjoy playing at Shenandoah Valley. The course is always in great shape with lovely landscaping, and the staff is very courteous and friendly. Since it's a 27 hole course we can play different combinations of 18 holes, so it never gets boring.
Fun Course, Great Pace of Play
Another enjoyable day at Shenandoah Valley. The course was in perfect condition, as usual. The course is 60 miles from my home, yet I make the trek about once a month to enjoy the fun layout and fantastic pace of play. If I can find a bargain (like I did on this day), it makes it difficult to pass up.
Fantastic Conditions Demand a More Interesting Layout
I played Shenandoah Valley GC for the first time in a few years today and was pleasantly surprised. I don’t remember the conditions of this course being as pristine as they were when I played. I had just finished a round at Blue Ridge Shadows and was very impressed that SVGC had noticeably higher quality conditions all around. The relatively soft greens were immaculate with little or no ball marks, scuffs, bare spots, or signs of heavy traffic. Putts rolled much smoother (though a bit slower) than they had for me during my earlier round. Bunkers were raked and looked great, fairways and even rough were even and lush.
My biggest complaint about SVGC is subjective and not something that can really be changed and that is the layout of the course. I like that there are 27 holes so that even when there’s a league playing (like there was when I was there) pace of play isn’t disrupted too much. But there isn’t much character or inspiration in the design or layout of the course. Certainly Blue Ridge Shadows and even Bowling Green next door offer a more interesting course design, whereas many of the holes at SVGC run together and don’t offer any particular challenge. This is a relatively short and flat course, with no water hazards that I can remember, no forced carries, and only a few blind shots. This is a very “see the fairway, hit the fairway/see the flag, hit the flag” kind of course.
The upside, of course, is that this is a great course for beginners. The greens are not overly sculpted, the fairways have few undulations in them, and the presence of just three sets of tees often in the same tee box means it’s easy to know where to go and how to play. Just watch out for that rough because there are some areas where it is really thick. I didn’t have a hard time finding my ball but on a few holes I had to hit out of the rough with a wedge to get back to the fairway.
The off-course amenities are pretty good though I haven’t tried the food there yet. A final word of caution for those who like to play in the rain: bring a covering for your clubs, the carts do not have rain hoods on the back.
Overall I enjoyed my third visit to SVGC, and would definitely recommend the course to some (but not all) golfers. The excellent playing conditions alone are worthy of a good GolfNow deal.
Beautiful
All aspects of the course were great. Great are quick but true. Fairways were smooth. A pleasure to play.
Best Course, Value Around
Shenandoah Valley is well laid out, maintained with the fervor of a club anticipating a tour event visit, and affordable to golfers of every stripe. Staff is friendly, the refreshment carts go around daily until around 3pm, and COLD water coolers are found regularly at 4-hole intervals.
If I were forced to find a criticism, it would have to be that the nines are rather short, and that their carts don't yet have GPS integration. Despite the shortness however, there are several holes whose tee-shots require a good measure of precision, and present genuine difficulty.
I really can't say enough good things about the courses, facilities and staff at Shenandoah Valley, it's very simply a first-rate golf experience at a cost short of commensurate to the value obtained. Golf HERE! You won't be disappointed.
Great course
Course was in very good condition and the price was excellent!! Will definitely play again!!
They just punched the greens, so it wasn't a great experience....usually the course is very good...
Great course , great staff
The best course in the valley. Can't say enough about the friendly staff. Mr Oates is a top of the list pro instructor and I highly recommend him for any beginner or intermediate player.

Good Round
The red and white are the better of the 3 courses, good conditions and with some challenging holes.
For this time of year, in great shape
all good; pace of play good; conditions of course good. equipment good.
Great value for the cost. Excellent course.
Short in yardage but small greens make it a challenge for any golfer.
Good solid choice
Played 11/13. Had an 8:30 tee time & hot deal, but delayed till 9:30 due to frost. Staff should have communicated to the growing group of golfers what the status and plan was to a much better degree. We ended up guessing then teeing off after seeing others tee off first. Then the marshal chased us down to tell us cart path only till it warmed up. This all could have gone smoother by announcing over the PA. Once that was behind us, the conditions were good, with the exception of a few sand traps. Greens were good. Best of the 4 courses there in the Front Royal area. Worth playing for sure. No water at all to contend with, so that is always a relief!
