Raspberry Falls Golf & Hunt Club
About
Raspberry Falls Golf & Hunt Club offers the traditional links course reminiscent of those found in the British Isles, situated amidst Virginia's horse country. The club gets its name from the land's former use, a raspberry field. The scenic terrain overlooks to Catoctin Mountains and there are still a few raspberry bushes dotting the course. By far the layout's most formidable challenges come from the deep, stacked pot bunkers that make it truly feel like a classic Scottish golf course. There are also water hazards on a few holes. The course's signature is the par-4 third hole, which is long but plays downhill all the way. The 10th hole, another par 4, is one of the toughest. The landing area is generous off the tee but there is a creek and pond to the left and fairway bunkers on the right.

Awesome course. Not in normal pristine shape at the moment though.
Let me start by saying a round of golf at Raspberry Falls is something to definitely look forward to. The course offers and awesome Gary Player layout, tons of variety and difficult while fun holes. Have played here twice before and definitely plan to return. Couldn't give 5 stars however because course was not in the excellent shape I've seen it in previously. Greens were a bit slow and also inconsistent. Some burn out spots but not too bad considering end of summer. Will be sure to come back and play in the fall!
Decent course for the hot deal price
I waited until the night before to book my tee time so I got a good price. It's a trek for me to get out to Leesburg, but I have been told by a few people that I should get out and play Raspberry Falls so I decided to get it done. I have played some of the other R.Trails courses and I have really enjoyed them so I was really looking forward to playing. Other than hitting off of mats, the practice area was great. Awesome little chip/pitch shot practice area which is rare in NOVA area courses. I would have like to see more flags out on the range with distances varied between them but again, the short game area was awesome and I may be nitpicking. The fairways out on the course were in great shape. Some were a little soggy from the rain the previous night, but I was impressed by the overall condition of the fairways. They were some of the nicest I have played this summer. The greens were really marked up and there were a ton of ball marks. Watching my partners balls roll to the hole was like watching the Plinko game on the price is right. I give the greens an avg rating, but I have been fortunate to play some of the nicest public tracks in the DMV area this summer and I have seen some fantastic greens thus far. Rasp. Falls would probably fall in the 2nd tier and it wasn't even close. Most of the tee boxes were nice, but there was a handful that literally looked like they had NEVER seen a mover and almost resembled grass from an unkempt backyard. You couldn't even find an even lie that didn't consist of mud/dirt on a few of them. The bunkers were in great shape, some of the better groomed bunkers, even after the rain I have seen all summer. Overall, the layout was pretty fun. Nice views, a decent array of tee shots were needed and with the 5 sets of tee's anyone could play the course. I would consider going back if I were to find another hot time, but I would have a really hard time paying full rack rate at the course. It's not a bad course, but there are some better options at that price point.
Excellent layout/track and fun to play...tees/greens need lot of attention.
Greens appear to have been aerated several times this summer but the conditions are at best playable...speed very inconsistent; bumpy, ragged cup edges. Tee boxes (tried gold and blue) are essentially grassless on a large number of holes. Several are nothing but mowed weeds/crab grass. Fairways and most traps remain in very playable condition. Overall on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the best, it is a 4.
nice course but need more attention to maintain green.
very nice layout but expensive for no reasons for the condition of the green all the time.
A Golfing Must
Great course in great condition. Individual looks for all 18 holes. Forgiving fairways with a vista view from tee #3. This course is a golfing treat even in the rain.
great day at Raspberry Falls
They should space tee times from another 5 minutes. to help with pace
Staff was friendly, organized. starter Mike was good at explaining the details and getting people on the tee box.
Condition of the course was very good, greens in very good shape, not super fast but nice and true
One of top courses in Northern Virginia
Generally well maintained but some bunkers and tee boxes need extra efforts.
Really good course, but also quite pricey
Overall, this course is really good, but also quite expensive. Not sure I'd pay full price for it, but playing on a weekday afternoon is definitely worth it. Everything about this course was nice, and it has a fairly challenging layout, especially with the five tee choices.;
Tee boxes: Good - The tee boxes were level and the grass kept very nice.
Fairway: Good - No dead spots. Very nicely kept. Deals with water well.
Rough: Good - Two distinct cuts. The second cut was lush but not impossible to play out of.
Greens: Good - Not too big, not too small. Ball rolls true. Some tricky reads though.
Sand: Good - Lots of sand on this course, especially on the fairways. The sand was in good shape though.
Carts: OK - New-ish and electric, so that's good. No rain covers though.
Side Note: We played one week after the greens had been aerated, and they were still better than most other greens in the area.
n
Everything was very good but all of Greens has a lots of HOLES everywhere. Golf course should have discount until those holes disappear.
Disappointing
This course used to be in great condition and now it is terrible. Very disappointed they let this course go and they still charge $100+ for a round.
pretty good except the greens
the course was in good shape, but the greens were aerated which made it absolutely terrible. I took an out of town guest to this course to show him the best public course in the area, but putting greens were aerated which made for the worst possible experience. My guest was not impressed to say the least. Neither was I, especially considering I paid $70/person.
The view looking out into the fairway from tee box area on hole #3 is breathtaking, but the tee box area is in awful shape and doesn't look like it's been maintained in a while. I actually slipped and sprained my ankle walking down to the gold tee area. Needless to say, this ruined my game the rest of the day at the course.
This course is great when in good condition.
Raspberry is a great track and when in good condition one of the best in the metro area. Currently, the green are a mess, even taking into consideration the aeration and sanding.
This was a good value with the Golf Now discount but at full greens fee, I might have requested some refund given the condition.
I have played this course quite a few times and is generally in excellent shape.
I'm sure things will get better in the Fall.
Great layout
I think this is one of the best courses in NOVA that is accessible to the public. I rate it up with Stonewall and Westfields. The greens have just been aerated and sanded. Even at that most putts held their line fairly well. There are some areas with crab grass issues in the rough. Fairways are great.
Great layout that's ruined by pace of play
This course has a fantastic layout but the pace of play is horrible, Many times we've been at this course and the round was close to 6 hours. The fact that they don't have a marshal doesn't help. Plus the course conditions are deteriorating every month.
Poor management
Raspberry Falls
My wife and I played the course for the first time. It is a beautiful course and it is challanging at times. The staff was not atentave and that was a little disappointing. Over all it was a great day and a nice experience.
Good layout and experience but course is always wet
I enjoy the layout, the greens are good (not great) , and the service is solid, particularly the multiple beers on tap at the 19th hole. My only complaint is that the course is always very wet including the fairways, rough and greens in an effort to maintain the bent grass fairways. This is the case regardless of the recent weather. It's frustrating getting no roll and then having to play from wet lies all day even if it hasn't rained recently. I played lift, clean and place in the fairways even though I couldn't remember the last time it had rained. I had multiple shots plug, including one in the rough.
Tough, yet fair course
This is one of Northern VA's best public courses. Pricey and crowded on the weekends, a better experience during the week. Only downside is pace of play, some golfers should either move up a tee or bypass this course altogether. Didn't see a marshal on the back nine, which was too bad.
One of the best courses to play !
As usual Raapberry Falls did not disappoint! The staff were extremely attentive. Tee times were well spaced out. I was a single & was grouped with 3 other people but we didn't have to wait on any shot on any hole. Of course I did play on a Monday so traffic was minimum. The weekend may be a different story. Some of the tee boxes are not in good shape but other than that the fairways are in great shape & the greens were rolling fast & true. It is in great shape overall
Fantastic time
Excellent challenge. Lots of sand and deep traps, well placed in typical Gary Player style. He even left large boulders in play.
Great course for the golf now price. Nice range and practice area
has too many houses.
loved it when played in early '90,esp.stack-sod faced bunkers.very disappointed.few tee boxes have sparse grass.wet, soggy fairways from too much rain&poor drainage.will not pay $85.00 to play
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
You're comments are right on....people fall in love with the layout and don't address the actual condition of the course. Several tee boxes are bad and most greens are average at best. The problem is they still fill the tee sheet, so there is little incentive to improve.
Condition is no better than a 5 out of 10. Hopefully they'll start to read a lot of their recent feedback and do something about it.....
