Algonkian Golf Course

I enjoyed the ample time of last tee. Only thing I didn't like was that cart return was rather early, even before the sunset. I played only 5 holes, and could have played 2 more holes with twilight left. Except that it was very good.

Algonkian was in great shape with all the rain we had the previous week. The rough was well mowed which made it easier to find balls. The greens were also in great shape and rolled true, but don't break as much as they look. The par 3s are a bit too long to be truly fun (190-200 yards), but overall, it is a nice layout.

It was like a picnic in the forest. Deers and squirrels were around, and the trees are all green. Fariways were quite soft and felt like a carpet with a gentle breeze. My wife and I really enjoyed the 9-hole game.

I've never been accused of playing too fast until now. First tee time of the morning, can't go out early as a single because I "might run into the maintenance crew." Mind you, the crew was basically.done by then. They were no where to be found. So I have to go out with a 3some. I had no intention of being on the course for 5 hours or more. This course is notorious for slow play, that was why I had the 1st tee time. So I asked the 3some on hole #2 if I could go ahead (they were walking & I in a cart) they said OK, no problem. I'm playing at my pace, not overly fast, but not slow. I'm approached on #8 by a marshal who asks "when was your tee time? Why did you leave the 3some? Why are you playing so fast?" I've never been told I was playing too fast, nor Why I would leave a group. I was stunned. I won't be back. Oh by the way, cut the rough. You might get faster play if you could find your ball! It's not worth the money to be there over 5 hours.

Conditions are improving although on course greens are slower than the practice green.

Pace of play remains very slow. The group in front of us had two clear holes in front of them but player assistance takes no action.

The pace here has become very slow and player assistance don’t seem to take any action to improve matters.

No mowing.

Fairways were like fist rough cut.

Anything off of fairways you could lose a ball.

Greens were slower that anything.

It’s mid-late April and, even in the fairway, you still have a 50% chance of playing off weeds.

Pace was good today but always slower on the back nine, this is where the Marshall needs to concentrate.

The group in front of us had 2 clear holes ahead of them on the back nine. They would not let us play through and we never saw “player assistance “ to assist.

First time playing this course. It is not a very difficult course. Most holes are straight forward. It is well maintained. I enjoyed playing this course. Very friendly staff.

Played the other day. We had a beginner player part of our group, but we still kept up pace of play. Group in front of us never saw the people playing ahead of them and were constantly hitting 3-4+ shots after the tee box(constantly topping the ball). Group ahead was over 250y ahead of us(confirmed on range finger(scope)). We let our beginner player hit first because he was not going to reach them, he hit a good shot a good 30 yards left and behind that group. They complained to the marshall that we hit into them. We told the marshall they were playing extremely slow and he just shut us down. If you have 5+ hours to play this is the place for you. The group also constantly would drag their feet on the green and when they walked off they sat in their cart right off the green and we couldn’t hit because we didn’t want them crying to the marshall again.

Nice course w/ really nice surrounding propoerty. Only problem was course drainage. Had some decent rain about a week ago and most of the rough was still waterlogged and essentially mud. Fairways were well maintained though.

This course isn’t in a good shape for the money they’re charging. The fairways are patchy. The tee boxes look like they aren’t completely fertilized. I don’t think I will play this course again.

I’ve played this course a few times but the staff working this day were all very rude. The man at the counter and the starter were unnecessarily demeaning. I’ve never had this issue coming here before. All the other marshalls on the course were fine and polite.

Course is decent. Long and straight, no hills. Rough is thick and difficult.
