Great value
This course is more than an excellent value. The course is always fairly well manicured (although the tees and fairways tend to be a little long for my liking). The pace of play is fantastic. I have played here many times and never had to wait long on any hole. The amenities are nothing special, but are clean and definitely not poor. The course layout in general is very fun and fair with many holes offering you great risk/reward options. The bunkers are probably the weakest part of the course, not the most well maintained. The greens are always in excellent shape. They hold well, are smooth, and are generous in size. In general they are just a little slow (maybe a 9-10 on the stimpmeter). All in all, it is an excellent value and I would highly recommend you play it and judge for yourself.
Fun Challenging Course near Lexington
This was the second time I've played the Boone's Trace Golf Course and it didn't disappoint from my first experience. The course is a great layout meandering through the Boone's Trace development giving the golfer lots of options with four tee boxes. The rolling hills make hitting your tee shots to the right spots critical for having the right angle to the greens and getting your approach shots in tight. The greens were receptive and rolled very smooth for the time of year. Take out the great course layout and the beautiful scenery alone is worth the price of admission.
Great Course
Great course with great scenery. Great value for money.
Great shape!!
After torrential rains this place was still in wonderful condition!!! Can't wait to play it again!
Trending downwards
I played a lot here last year, and unfortunately the course is trending downwards quickly. There were a lot of positive changes started at the beginning of 2016 that were never finished, and as a result there are a lot of open dirt pits throughout the play (bunkers that haven't been filled in yet). The greens are rough and don't roll very well, the fairways not always maintained either. The layout is actually quite nice, but not very challenging due to the shorter length. A lot of potential, just needs some money spent on it. Their is definitely a sense of "locals" here and it's very easy to feel as an outsider if playing during the week and not part of their regular crowd. The clubhouse bar/restaurant needs some organizing and it could be a lot of better.
Nice Course, Slow Play
This is a beautiful course, with challenging slope and many blind shots. The only issue we have withe course is the pace of play. We were a twosome, and play at an average pace but had a 3some in front of us that would not let us play through even though they had noone in front of them, There were many holes where we had to wait 10 to 15 minutes between shots which was ridiculous. Suggestion, put times per hole on the scorecard as they do at many courses now, and also have some rangers available to make sure groups that are playing slow observe some ettiquette.
Very nice course
The course was in very good condition, definately one of the best courses in the area.
Glad you enjoyed the course! Thank you for your review BDouble!
Course has been better
Not sure what's happened, but there was a ton of damage on fairways and the greens had many rough patches also. One of the gentlemen working in the pro shop didn't seem like he even wanted to assist us with our drink purchases. Not very friendly. The course has been better but I would still play it again. We got a great deal on golf now
Great Golf Course!
One of the nicest golf courses I have played in Central Kentucky. Provided moderate challenge but could be played by a player of any skill level. Hope to play it again soon!
Needs work'
I hadn't played this course in over 10 years so I was excited about trying it again. The weather was beautiful and there wasn't too many people on the corse so pace of play was great. I like the layout and the challenges it had.
However, the course needs work. The greens had bare spots and needed repairs from ballparks. The fairways were decent but still bare spots. The rough around the greens and in the fairways were awful! I know it's crabgrass season but that was ridiculous! Hard to hit out of. A little weed control would have solved that problem!
The tee boxes were long as well. Needs to be much shorter, not rough length.
It may be another 10 years before I go back which is sad since its in such a nice area!
Nice Challenge
This is a really nice playable course. Played the white tees and felt it was very fair distance. The fairways were in great shape with many uneven lies that add to the challenge. The greens are medium to fast, but suffer from player not fixing their marks. Most of the the bunkers are nice but some still waiting on the redo. The staff is great and the course is well maintained.
Do-over
First time playing the course. I loved the front nine, back nine not so much. Reason being, I just moved here from Florida and was not used to playing courses with side hill lies. Had a hard time adjusting. I will most certainly play it again.
Course has potential, but needs a little work
I had a $29 Golf Now tee time at 8:20. It seemed like a good value because the course was highly rated. I started off with some range balls and putting. The practice area seemed very good. Once I got on the course I was a little disappointed in the maintenance. The edges of the bunkers had tall weeds growing out of them that needed to be trimmed and the tee boxes and greens seemed a little beat up even for late summer. There were a few instances when there were clumps of grass in the rough which made it tough to find an errant shot. Overall the layout was fun with a lot of elevation changes and a few forced carries. The greens were a little slower than what I am used to, but the dew may have played into that.
Good Value
The course is fun to play. The front nine is not very exciting bu the back nine is very challenging. All around a good course to play.
Staff Training
My brother and I booked the Hot Deal which was a great price, we played 10 holes and then it started to rain so we went to the clubhouse to ask about a rain check. The young person that was working the desk said " we didn't make any money since you booked it on Golf Now so we can't give you a rain check" I didn't say anything (normally I would since I'm a local business owner and wouldn't want our employees saying something like that to hopefully future customers). I did not set the price and I'm sure the employee didn't either but in the future I would hope something like " I'm sorry but it's our policy that if you book online with Golf Now we do not issue rain checks" would be the response. Very disappointed with the way it was handled and as everybody says" Good help is hard to find"
Good course overall, bad staff
The course was great. Played at 9am on Friday. The mowers were still mowing the teeboxes, but when they were finished they didn't add the markers back. It was around 12:30 when we were on 18 and there still weren't any tee markers set. Additionally, the guy in the clubhouse was not the least friendly. Seemed to almost be mad to have paying customers.
Great Course
Great changelling course for a novice golf skill set. I play about twice week and I felt like the setup was a great challenge for my skill set. Loved # 14 short par 3 water on one side and not too in bound play on the other. Greens are narrow and little on some holes. Definitely will play this course again. I will recommend this course to my golfing friends.
many improvements
I played the course a couple of years ago and was surprised how many improvements they have made. They have installed new cart paths, new bunker improvements were outstanding (especially the white sand) and the greens were in tournament condition.
One of the best conditioned golf course I have played in years. Will be looking forward to my next visit.
A must play in Lexington
Excellent course that we always make part of our annual outing. The layout is well done and is challenging for all levels of player. We lucked into booking a round in 2008 off golfnow.com and have played this course for every year since. We still find it challenging and entertaining!
Nice day for golf
This was the first day in a while we could play without rain or other time constraints so it felt good out on the course. The course was in nice shape. They were rebuilding the greenside bunkers on some holes but that's fine.
We actually had a Marshall get us going on the first hole which was great. It's unusual to see this anymore ao I appreciated it. The pace of play looked like it was going to be bad as we were stuck behind a group of 4 plus a kid but it worked out.
I really like the way this course plays and if you fade the ball with ease you will like this course. Several holes have water in play and several have elevated greens which can be a challenge but I like that kind of stuff. The clubhouse, driving range and practice putting green are all very nice. I'll be back.
Hey Billy, Thank you for your review. We apologize that you had a slow group in front of you, and thank you for your feedback! We will look into updated our scorecards and trying to get a ranger out on the course more!
