Designed by Rees Jones, Broad Run Golfer's Club boasts one of the best layouts in the area. The course sprawls across over 370 acres of rolling hills countryside. The dramatic elevations are definitely not something you would expect from a golf course that is conveniently situated so close to downtown Philadelphia. The elevated tees feel as though they're in the clouds and mature trees frame most of the holes. There are hazards lurking throughout the golf course including swampy marshlands and tall, dense grasses that are all just waiting to swallow errant shots. It is a challenging layout no doubt but it is made more player friendly with generous fairways and Jones was also light on the bunkering. One of the most difficult and scenic holes is the par-5 15th. This hole plays uphill, featuring a blind tee shot to a plateau green surrounded by trees.

Broad Run going down hill...

Teeing off at 6:50am on Sunday morning you would expect pace of play to be quick but it took 5 hours to play. Totally unacceptable. No rangers in site to keep pace of play moving. When we complained at the end of the round, all they could say in the pro shop was that their course is rated for a 4 hr 45 min round, no apologies. I've played the course plenty of time before and never has it taken that much time to play. No course should take 4:45 to play let alone 5 hours at 6:50am. Even though they said they were fully booked for they day, only saw the drink cart once. A few of the greens appear to still have aeration marks. No sure what that was about. 18 fairway is really getting chewed up too.

Slow, no very slow play, and no on course personnel seems to be a theme to ruin a great collection of golf holes.

Not What It Used To Be

Broad Run is going downhill fast. First it was policy changes and now staff and course conditions are starting to become an issue. Today we had a 5 hour round on an early Sunday morning with no rangers in sight and when we inquired after the round we were told that pace of play was to be expected. As for the course itself there are still numerous greens that have not fully recovered from aeration, rarely is there sand in a bunker, the 18th fairway is pathetic, no one is out there filling in divots(our cart had 2 empty sand bottles), unrepaired ball marks on the greens. For the amount of $$ they want to charge the course is just not worth it in it's current condition. I'm not sure what has happened in the past few months at Broad Run but it isn't looking good. With all the other options in PA there are far better options to spend your money where you will be treated like a customer and have a decent course to play.

One positive is the Bordley House Grill staff and food were fantastic as usual, the golf staff could learn a few things from them.

Slow, Sand and Starter - All poor

5+ hours to play 18.....Very Slow. No Sand in the Bunkers anywhere on the Course, nothing but Mud and rocks. Starter was a complete jerk and treated everyone as an inconvenience to his time. Later on he passed us 4 times on the course and shrugged when we asked about pace of play. Expected more for $85. Will not be going back any time soon.

Tough the first time

Finally got to play Broad Run after years of wanting to make the 1.5 hour trip. Overall, it was a very good experience. It very much plays like the mountain courses of NEPA. Expect LOTS of elevation changes and quite a few blind shots. This made it a tough go the first time on it, but the yardage guide helped. You will need every club in your bag.

I had a pass to play for $45 on a weekday morning. I feel like it was worth the cost. Had I paid $60+ to play, it may have been a different story, but I guess that's the going rate for a very nice course not far from Philly. Overall, it's worth getting on it at least once.

A Must Play

Broad Run is with out a doubt a must play for anyone who has not had the pleasure. The vistas are spectacular and from the tips a good challenge indeed. No two holes are alike and you use most if not all of your clubs. Wish other golfers were a little more considerate fixing their pitch marks on the green and the tee boxes need a little TLC, but overall a fun challenging layout, the staff is very accomadating and friendly. They had ariated the greens a couple weeks prior to our playing, so when they completely grow in the greens will be rolling great. Take the time and play here, just please fix your ball mark and two others.

Interesting layout, great conditions.......

Just a couple of issues.....it was 93 degrees outside and we never saw a cart girl the whole time. The elevation changes are incredibly extreme and are on every hole......in the heat it is pretty exhausting walking up those giant hills on every hole even with a cart. Other than that, it is a very unique layout and it was in very nice condition.....a course you'll definitely want to check out at least once.

Great, all things considered

I played after about a week's worth of rain. The course was a bit muggy in the beginning, but less than I would have expected. The end of the course was pretty dry. The only quip I had was the greens looked to be recently airated so were a bit rough but otherwise was a tough and fun course

always a good round here

I've been playing Broad Run for a few years and have always considered it a treat to play--the only public course nearby that's more expensive is Glen Mills. But it's always in great condition. The greens are always medium-to-fast and I've never had a problem with the condition of the tee boxes, fairways, or greens. The bunkers are currently a little hard, but whatever, it's November. Compared to all the other public courses within a half hour of west chester, this is top notch. I'd say only glen mills has it beat. Stunning views of the countryside from a few tee boxes and fairways.

The only drawback here is rounds on the weekend can be pretty slow. But that's true everywhere here. I've liked it so much that I recently joined (their young professional prices are a steal).

It also has my favorite first and closing holes around...two par fives, one of them easily reachable, but both risk reward. Not to mention a diverse selection of par threes...one pin-seeking, hole-in-one type, one a hundred feet downhill, and two mid-range ones. There are a handful of par fours that if you walk away with par, you're happy. It's challenging through and through, but there are a lot of birdie holes, too. My kind of golf.

Broad Run

Amazing course with incredible views. This has quickly become my favorite course in Southeastern PA. The elevation changes and blind shots give this course character that isn't found in many other places. Many times you will end up playing to a yardage due to hazards, but it makes for an interesting round. Can't say enough about how great this golf club is... Highly recommend getting a round in here.

Second go around

I have to say that anything bad about this course gets trumped by the absolute beauty of this course. I played this course earlier in the summer and besides some negative things that occurred that day with staff friendliness, it didn't detour me from really wanting to play again. This time the service was well above par, and the course was wide open in the afternoon for us to play. Even though the greens were recently airrated they we're still in great shape and didn't effect putting to much. This is my favorite course to play but it is a great challenge, and one of the prettiest courses to gaze upon as you stand from tee boxes to fairways to greens. My second time back was an even better experience than the first and is an absolute must play

DISSAPOINTING

Paid a premium price of $59 in November! An outrage especially when holes 4 and 5 had unplayable fairways! Both fairways had tractors going up and down fairways. They didnt even stop to let us play through. Also, came across a bow hunter! On a golf course while people are playing!! Never came across that before. There were no rangers out there. When I told the general manager, Jeff Broadbelt, he said they allow that!! Couldnt beleive it!! I expressed my concern about safety and he walked away!! WOW!! So beware fellow golfers!! Dont wear dark colors or take a leak in the woods!!

Excellent Shape

My first time back to Broad Run in a few years - used to play it once or twice a year but the conditions started to deteriorate. Course was in awesome shape when we played, greens rolled really well, tee boxes were great and fairways were solid.
Clubhouse is nice and they have a really great patio - good beer selection as well (but you can't take the good ones out on the course).
Love the layout and views of the course - club selection is always key on a few holes (2, 6, 9 and some of the short par 3's where wind and downhill really come into play).

Broad Run has lost it's luster

I played Broad Run for the first time in 2014 today. I have been a huge fan of this course for years, and after the latest ownership change I was eager to get out there to check it out. Upon arrival the pro shop attendant (who was asleep behind the counter) checked me in and after telling me that I owed the greens fee of $81, he said "wow, that's expensive." Expensive indeed, but I was happy to pay as Broad Run never disappoints and I have heard only good things recently. Our tee time was 8:20, and after waiting around the putting green, we finally teed off at 8:35, pretty early in the day for a backlog, but ok, no biggie. My tee shot on 1 found the 2nd fairway bunker and firmly plugged in the mud next to the pond of water covering 50% of the bunker. Very disappointing for a course of BR's stature, but maybe the crew was busy pumping water out of bunkers and hadn't gotten to this one yet. As it turns out, 60-70% of the bunkers were either washed out and ponded with water, totally muddy, or just ungroomed. Totally unacceptable for $81 rack rate. The pace of play was absolutely terrible, we waited to hit almost all day and our round clocked in at just over 5 hours. We saw a ranger once, he apologized for the pace and promised to get things moving, and he did for 3 or 4 holes, but we never saw him after the turn and the back 9 was painfully slow. The golf carts had a nice little sign advertising food to call ahead and order for pickup on the turn. When we got to the 9th tee we called to order a few sandwiches, the girl who answered the phone said she wouldn't have any food to offer until 11am. We called at 10:50. I can see not having food available during the week, but this is Sunday in peak season. One of my playing partners left his wedge on a previous hole and didn't realize it until his approach on #9, so on the turn he politely asked our friend behind the pro shop counter if he could radio the ranger to see if anyone had turned it in, he said "why don't you go look for it? If anyone finds it they're going to keep it, that's what people do." After insisting that he call the ranger, the ranger confirmed that he had the club and promptly brought the club to the clubhouse, problem solved. The pro shop attendant was completely unprofessional and rude from start to finish. Overall the condition of the course was average, fairways and tees were nice, bunkers were terrible (not just the condition previously stated, but the edging had been totally let go), greens were inconsistent, some fast and smooth, some bumpy and slower. I left Broad Run today feeling extremely disappointed. This course has the potential to charge $81 to play, and has realized that potential in the past, but in its current condition, I'd be hard pressed to say its worth any more than $60 on a weekend morning. Needless to say, I won't be returning to Broad Run (nor will I be recommending to anyone), and that's a bummer because I really love the layout, but this incarnation of BRGC is a bad value and total waste of time. Sorry guys, I love Iron Valley, but you need to pay more attention to Broad Run, it's terrible.

Nice course with plenty of elevation

Fun yet challenging course. Lots of elevation so impossible to walk. Every hole is different, except for the par 3s which all seem to be downhill. Fairways and greens in great shape. A bit of a hike from Philadelphia, but worth it every once in a while!

hidden gem

This course is tucked away in the woods of scenic chester county. The conditions are always amazing here, the course is challenging yet fun, the views are amazing. The course is beautiful and I would play here every week if I lived closer. You can't beat the value of this place. Easily one of the top 5-10 public courses in the philly area.

The Views!

This was one of the most enjoyable rounds of golf I've ever played. There is a lot of undulation and you have to think your way around the course and pick your spots. It's challenging, but not so difficult that you can't score, there are many birdie opportunities because the course isn't overly long.

Staff was great. Conditions were great. Views of the PA farm country were amazing! Highly recommend checking this one out.

Good course for the experienced golfer.

You don't have to be a single digit handicapper to enjoy this course but experience helps. Requires good decision making and proper club selection. Make sure you have all 14 clubs in your bag because you will need them all.

This course is fun to play

Good golf course with lots of hills. There are only a couple holes (2,17) that are subpar. Its always in pretty good shape. The carts were old and the brakes barely worked (which isn't good for a course with steep hills). Overall I would recommend. I like it but not in love with it.
