Druids Glen on a perfect day
Played Druids Glen on Columbus Day and it was a perfect day. Course was also in perfect shape and we had an very enjoyable round.
Great Layout - course is on the mend
This is a professionally designed golf course that looks like it was badly damaged over an extended period of time. However, the tees, fairways, and greens are look like they are on the mend and the course is also repairing all the lakes / water hazards as well. The greens are large and well designed. Nice elevation changes on some of the holes. Overall, if the greenskeeping staff continue to take the course in the right direction, I will definitely return.
Disappointment
I played the course about 2 o3 3 months ago and it was in terrible condition. When I called to book the round I asked about the condition of the course and was told it was not under repair. When I arrived I found greens that were still partially sanded and the tee boxes had been punched. Fairways are suffering from lack of water. It has been a warm summer but compared to other courses in the area the fairways are hardpan. In my opinion they have no business charging full rates until the course is in better condition.
I like the layout of this course but am disappointed in their apparent lack of basic green keeping principles. I would avoid this course until next spring. Maybe by then they will have restored it to a playable condition.
Very nice course, very challenging!
This course is well maintained and is challenging but fun!
Above average for beginning of fall!
Got on via GolfNow for less than 1/2 the normal rate. Pace was excellent.
Had been punched 2 weeks prior but only experienced shoddy rolls on select greens. Good second and third cut action on all holes.
No F&B service on the course for a Friday afternoon, though...?
Overall above expectations.
This is top 10 in Washington?
Then Washington doesn't have good golf compared to much of the country.
I can see the good. It has a textured layout. It would be pretty if it wasn't all burned out...but it was all burned out. It has a real driving range (rare in WA), but of course you are on the mats all summer.
A couple spots have great views of Rainier. The Taproom is actually excellent and the outdoor patio during the nice weather (like this was in September).
Downsides: Alternately gushy or hard and bare right in front of the greens. Broken sprinklers? Many? How does this place handle rain? Because there were wet, low spots in the fairways, too. Alongside burnt out swaths. I don't need Augusta, but i would say this went beyond reasonable natural imperfections. This was 'Needs Attention'.
Under Construction
This course has potential, I've been playing here for a few years. The downside is it looks like the course is never finished, temporary greens, Cart paths crumbling away most of the water hazards are drained and exposing black tarps. Rarely do you see any mobile Cart service. Forget playing in the winter unless you like to lose your ball in the middle of the fairways due to soft muddy conditions. Oh and you'll have to track someone down to get range balls out of the machine they get backed up. The new GPS Carts are cool, it's a good step in making improvements. Beautiful views.
Seen better conditions.
I really like this golf course. Have played here many times. It is actually much better earlier in the season, as they use the water from the ponds to water the course. The ponds were almost empty and the fairways were very dry and not in very good shape. But it is late and there has been very little rain. Otherwise this course is a great place to play. The layout is fun and challenging, although the fairway bunkers are a little deep for my liking. People are nice and helpful and they have an outstanding 19th hole where the food is outstanding and the service is fast and friendly.
Could be better
Druids is a challenging course, but not knowing we would play the front 9 twice as our "deal" was a bit disappointing.
Course needs work
Greens are damaged. Fairways are burnt and not in good shape. Sometimes had to find some decent grass to put ball
Unpleasantly Surprised
This course is typically one of my favorites in the area so i was unpleasantly surprised at the condition of the course. Most of the greens were in fairly poor condition, lots of brown/ dead grass in fairways, and all of the water features were significantly low if not entirely dry. This certainly detracted from the normal beauty of the course.
Disappointing
It has been a couple years since I played this course and was extremely disappointed. The greens were very slow and "nappy". They have obviously put in patches where they had problems which really did not help much. There were areas on the greens that were burnt out with no living grass.
As bad as the greens were the fairways were even worse. Many large areas with no grass and bare lies. Off the fairways bare hardpan.
Tee boxes had almost no grass on them.
Too many courses nearby in superior condition at lower prices.
