Nestled within the Colorado Rockies, Grand Elk Golf Club in Granby, Colo. offers stunning mountain views from every hole. The course has a links-layout inspired by the inland golf courses of the British Isles. The low-lying vegetation and gently rolling terrain lend a heathland feel to the course. The fairways are wide and undulating and the large greens have ample contours as well. The layout has an interesting mix of holes with some that are straightforward and others that twist into tricky doglegs, but nearly all are flanked with sod-faced bunkers. There are more than 60 bunkers coming into play throughout Grand Elk Golf Club, and water hazards come into play on four holes. Besides just being a fun and challenging round, the magnificent views that stretch across the snow-capped peaks of the Continental Divide are not to be missed.

Interesting and challenging golf

Played in 3 hours on a weekday. The people were friendly and the course is fun and kind of tough off the tee and into the greens. The GPS tips were very handy . Some blind drives that are tough the first time you play the course. I had a very good time out there.

Play the wind

Great course with fast greens. Played as a single and was able to complete course in about 2.5 hours mid week afternoon. Rough is not where you want to be and adjust for the afternoon winds. Great valley views of all the mountains.

Grand Elk

Wonderful golf course, wide fairways in great condition, tee boxes excellent condition and greens very well kept.
Sand traps in very good condition, well raked, etc.

Great value, well worth my drive of 75 minutes from Summit county.

Super Valley Course

The course was in excellent condition, friendly staff and with great options on tap. Several blind shots make course knowledge important and one should approach greens with caution. The GPS system is accurate and gives ones forewarning of trouble but course knowledge is still key. Practice balls come with your round and staff are eager to help.

Walked

Great course, but bad groundscrew

This course is beautiful. The back nine is also quite challenging with plenty of native grasses and water to eat balls. The holes are interesting and well designed, and present a great challenge.

The only issue I had was with the grounds crew. This may be my fault since I was the first tee time of the day and they let me tee off early, but I'll tell the story anyway.

I had to play through mowers (I think three groups of them) on 6 of the first 8 holes. On the 6th (par 3), I stood in the tee box and the mower never stopped mowing around the green. I finally gave up and skipped it. The mowers kept leapfrogging each other so I couldn't get ahead of them. I finally skipped the 8th hole too and finally got ahead of them.

The damage was done though. I totally understand and expect to see a mower or 2, especially that early in the morning, but this was excessive. I feel pressured to hurry up when they move to the side and wait, and then I hit poorly, and then I get flustered, and hit poorly again, etc. But more to the point, for the entire front 9 I listened to lawnmower engines. That's not why I spent quite a bit of money and drove up the hill from Denver to play in the mountains. Again, one or two holes, fine. But I would rather have not played the front nine it was so bad.

Bottom line, I hope that was a fluke. If so, then I would rerate this course a 5, just from the quality of the fairways, the views, and the course layout.

I would not recommend walking--some of the holes are quite far apart.

Good track

This is a well designed course and well maintained for a high altitude environment. If there is one complaint it would be that it is a little too wet.
There are enough tees to offer a challenge for most skill levels and still be playable. Its a very enjoyable course.

Nice day of golf

Was supposed to play with a threesome but they must have teed off early so I played by myself. I could have played faster but expected a 4 hour round and that is what I got. I could practice, look for lost balls, enjoy the mother duck with 8 ducklings and had a fine day. Some interesting holes, only one or two that are "plain" holes. Good challenges, nice greens and a fine course.

Great views

We played here for the first time and overall it was a great experience. There are many blind shots and hazards around the green so proper distance control on approach shor is a must. Balls go further here due to higher elevation. Be sure to bring few extra balls.

Great mountain course

Course was in great shape. All the staff were very friendly except the pro shop guy. He did not like the Golf now reservation. There were several open tee times ahead of us and he would not move us. Our tee time was 12:50. the 12:30 and 12:40 were open and even at 12:00 he would not budge on our time. Not very smart. But the course was great!! Just don't expect a warm welcome if your reservation is made through Golfnow.

Great views and good golf

Overall a nice experience. Greens were really slow but they were consistent throughout the entire course. Course was in good shape and was a pleasure to play. Would play again in the future. GPS on carts was also a great help and they also included.tips on how to play each hole. This was a great help for anyone that had not played the course before.

Excellent and challenging

Great course, open links style. Not a lot of elevation change for a mountain course. Recommend as a second or third course on a weekend outing.

Fun and Scenic Course

Clubhouse staff was very friendly and accommodating. Practice green was in tough shape but the greens on the course were in great shape considering how early in the season it is for this altitude. Flat, links style course so you can enjoy panoramic views from every hole. Couple forced carries that were difficult for some in my group. GPS in the carts are very helpful for playing this course for the first time. Highly recommend playing here if you are in the area.

Nice course

Windy, gusty, blustery day but shot best round ever. Course in great condition considering the wet weather and melt for the mountains. Facilities very nice and up to date. A gem. Took me 5 years to play, should not have waited this long.
