Sustainable Links Course

I played this course in the month of august 2012 during my visit to Isle of South Uist. A master piece of Old Tom Morris, most natural links course I have ever played and experienced till date. Living example of a sustainable links course with its true characterisitcs - massive dunes, native cool season grasses, undulating greens, waste bunkers.

Sustainable Links Golf Course

During my trip to Isle of South Uist for an assignment, I studied the course history and design features. Played the course and it was one of my best round till date, This links course is a master piece of Old Tom Morris. The most sustainable links golf course model with true characteristics - massive dunes to contouring, undulations, native cool season grasses, pure sand base course, surface drainage, no trees.

Purest links course in the world......!

Have played Askernish several times, the last being August, 2014. This is an Old Tom Morris layout circa 1891 that was taken over by the shifting dunes after WWI due to economic conditions and was resurrected several years ago by a group of locals with the encouragement and support of the likes of Mike Keiser of Bandon Dunes. In restoring the course, the objective was to create a tribute to the craft and genius of Old Tom and have it play as it would have 125 years ago. This they have achieved in spades and it is truly the only links course anywhere that hasn't been modernized to pander to the whims of the North American golfer. BTW, the profile refers to the course as 'private', which is a mistake. It is 'semi-private' with many local and overseas members #myself included# but definitely is open to daily play. I am looking forward to returning at least twice this year to play this gem.....!
