Discovery Bay Golf Club
About
Opened in 1925, Discovery Bay Golf Club, formerly known as Chevy Chase Port Townsend Golf Course, has the distinction of being the oldest public golf course in Washington. Besides its long history, it has also garnered acclaim as one of the best golf courses on the Olympic Peninsula. Situated on the shores of Discovery Bay, the layout enjoys panoramic mountain views spanning the Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges. There is more to the course than scenery though. The classic design is challenging enough to appeal to low handicappers while still being accessible for beginners. The course's back nine is more challenging than the front, featuring challenging elevation changes and some tricky lies. Be sure to bring your camera for the breathtaking view on Discovery Bay Golf Club's 10th tee.

Nothing to discover here.
An average NW course. The greens were overly moist and the fairways were pretty dry and brown on the fringes.
Play was fast and not overly crowded for mid-week play.
One item I felt should be at some of the tee boxes is drinking
water - there was none available.
The greens need attention,18 hole pace=four some
I was about an hour early for my tee time and the pro shop attendant would not let us tee off early(two some) even though there was only one couple that tee'd off during the hour.
This was my first experience with Golf Now and everything went well.
This whole process was so easy. The purchase was simple and the procedures were simple.
The pro shop, Dan, was ready for us when we arrived and gave us full, courteous, and prompt attention. The golfing experience at Discovery Bay was very good based on the pace of play, service, and weather.
I would certainly return to this facility.
Nice views!
Greens in really good shape, fairways fairly hard (ball rolls and bounces a lot) lots of lateral hazards.
Playing from the gold or red tees is very satisfying for the average golfer.
Diversity between front and back 9, like 2 different course experiences. Built on the side of a hill, virtually all the holes are either up or down hill from the tee boxes.
Most greens have some 'damage' and we decided to at least give ourselves a 'clean' putt to the hole location, but no closer to the pin.
Very dry conditions and a lot of brown grass on the fairways the day we played but ultimately playable. We would like the fairways to be 'smoother' than they were, a bumpy ride in a cart even though we went slowly.
Enough trouble to make you think but not so much that it was too difficult to enjoy. A decent day.
walkable first nine and more challenges on back nine
The front nine is great for walking. Yesterday we played 18 with a cart and enjoyed the challenge of the back nine.
good day, good golf
The course was in really good shape. The greens rolled as they
should, not as we read them. Fun course to play.
Dog friendly
We have a small dog that we like to take with us. This course allows us to do that. We keep the dog in the cart basket and can enjoy our play. The course is not too difficult and the views are tremendous.
Fast Pace of Play
I am use to playing a round of golf in 4-5 hours for public golf courses. But I couldn't believe how open and fast this place play. I was done with 18 with cart in under 3 hours. The greens need to be grass more and the fairways are super bumpy. Other than that, the tee box and fairway are kept really well. Overall this is a great place to play for the price.
Had nice day course played OK.
No rain so that was great. Not many players pace was great.
A tale of 2 9's...
So the front 9 greatly resembles a cow pasture. Not a ton of contours, kind of flat and open. The back, however, has a completely different feel, and was a good challenge. Greens are in pretty good shape right now.
This course is long. It is great for long distance shots!
This was our first time playing Discovery Bay. The course is beautiful as well as challenging. The pace of play was efficient. If you are looking for a fun golf day adventure, I recommend Discovery Bay!
Bring a few extra balls
Fairways need attention. Lost a couple balls. Left a sour taste after a nice drive.
Beautiful scenery
The staff was very friendly. The fairways however were covered with little white flowers and in places it was quite long. This made finding your golf ball challenging at times.
Beautiful location, friendly staff, and not too crowded.
Discovery Bay is a beautiful spot for just about anything. A friendly accommodating staff and reasonable pricing make this a good golf spot. In the summer time the course tends to get a bit dry and can become much more challenging. This time of year (spring), it is still wet in a few places, but the greens are in great shape. The biggest challenge may be looking for a white ball among a lot of clover on certain fairways, though I'm told the grounds crew is trying to address this problem. The back 9 is particularly beautiful, but very hilly, and a cart is recommended unless you really like to hike. I like the fact it is rarely crowded and people are generally polite.
Fun course ONLY IN THE SUMMER.....
Terrible conditions in the fairways. Long grass, wet and too much daises. Lose ball in middle of fairway.
Greens OK for this time of year and the weather we have had.
Will NOT play in winter again...
Looking forward to late Spring / Summer to play the course
Three great holes
I play this course occasionally because of the back nine, especially holes 10, 11 and 12, three of the best holes I've ever played. Course could be in better condition, but in this economy for a course that has changed hands/management alot and the price I paid, it was a deal.
