Course is in ROUGH shape
Most tees are sandpits, the bunkers are just dirt, the greens are cratered like the face of the moon, several of the holes are basically shooting galleries of cross-fairway target practice, and you’re flying if you finish an early morning round in 5 hours (good luck if you start after 10am). Oh, and a few of the holes are just unfair because there’s no tree maintenance — nobody can double-bend a ball in the air off the tee. Nobody.
That said, for NYC munis? It’s one of the better layouts, you’ll need a variety of shots to get around the course, and it offers some fun short game tests.
Course was in good shape
The course was in pretty good shape only a few greens weren't fully up to par. The pace of play was unusually fast for this course as we finished in just over 4 hours. Hopefully that continues through the season.
Disappointed
I've been playing Clearview since the mid 1980's and it's had it's ups and downs. Today was not a good day. Overall, the entire golf course was as hard as a rock, so the ball rolled everywhere and you could not hold a green. As for the greens, they were horrible: just recently aerated and salted with sand--very difficult to play on or judge. The person in the pro shop should have apologized to players checking in to let them know about the greens; GolfNow should have had an "aeration alert" to warn golfers in advance. It was disappointing to play here today because of these conditions. The layout of the course is great and the pace of play was not bad (4 hours!)… the course just needs better care, at least at this time of the year. Warning to all those who will play there for the next 2 weeks.
Good Course, Slow Play
Course is in good condition for end of year. Play was slow as they sent out a group of six ahead of my foursome
Poor
If you want to ply a course where the Groups ahead of you take their sweet time with every shot and the groups behind you always hit into you then this is your course. Not to mention other people always picking up your ball or even the rude and selfish play of the people that always play here. I’d rather drive a little further and pay less then here.
Pro shop issues
The staff in the pro shop need training and direction on how to deal with the person that is standing in front of them and should not be answering the phones, taking bookings for tee time. this should be done by an answering service.
The second issue that I have is the cart key policy. a $10 deposit is required, so when I went back in to the pro shop after the round. there was 2 customers in front of me, it 15 minutes for course employee to process their payment. which I think is just ridiculous. further more in regards to the key deposited, why cant they just do what other course in the area do, and that is to leave the carts turned on, so that no keys are required. it would eliminate a lot of unnecessary transaction, with keys and deposits.
Course layout and conditions were fine but pace of play was very , very slow....
Had a good time only pain was that we were following a slow outing that went out at 8 AM. They were very low but the pace picked up after 2 hours.
9:16 reservation, tee’d off at 10:10
I have played this course at least 10x and this will be my last. Over an hour delay from our reservation and they did not care at all. Once we started there was about 3 groups playing on every hole and took over 5 hours to play (our group also played scramble, which means we we’re playing quick). Many of the tee boxes are in horrible conditions and unusable.
A good test but not well kept...
Pace of play was kind of slow but what really surprised me was how poor the course was compared to prior years. It must be as a result of all the rounds.
Check in was okay but it seemed like the attendant couldn't read the computer so that took a long time otherwise all people were friendly and helpful.
Time to upgrade
Put some Bag Racks in front of the Pro Shop
Let golfers check in and pay when they arrive and not be told by the counter agent that it’s too early, that’s nonsense.
Put a Ranger on the course to keep up the pace of play.
It should not take 5 1/2 hours to play a round .
Spend some money
Long long waiting and playing!!
I've played this course more than 15 years. Lately, so many people want to play at this golf course. In this reason it can't be able to play on time. Every single hole I have to wait two group of players head of me. I need more than 30 minutes to hole out.
I don't want to recomand any advanced or low handy golfer playing golf here. YOU're gonna get stressed time. Better go to Long Island for saving money and time.
Beacause I didn't have enough time to go far from my place, I choose this course. I always regret after finishing game. Anyone see this review, do not go this course for saving time and money.
Poor condition thru the cours
The condition of tee box’s and fairways were horrible. They just did aeration the greens... so can’t fairly rate it this time.
Terrible Conditions - No mention of aeration - looks like a dump
This course has sadly turned into the dumpiest courses in NYC... being that it used to be one of the nicest - So Sad.
They don't care about the course and only care about selling tee times non-stop ... overcrowding the course -- slow pace of play.
Save yourself the money!!
Not bad, but too one-dimensional
I'm rating this again as I played a normal (non-outing) round. The course isn't bad but it is just too one-dimensional and boring to get the third star. Every hole is straight. Every green is the same- basic sloping. Very few fairway bunkers. No turns, dog legs. No thinking about anything. It's ok if you want to hit some balls but nothing stands out.
winter golf
The course was in poor condition I’m sure the nor’easter really destroyed it I would give it one more chance come springtime
