Not good
Really only played it because it was the only course close by that was open on a nice warm day in the winter. The course has never been a very good value, but it used to be much nicer. These days I only play it if it's the only option or if I can get an unusually low price.
Due to the break in the weather, it was very busy. Many groups were going out around the time we arrived, many of them without tee times. Despite all this, when we're walking to the green on the 9th hole, a pair pulls up out of nowhere to start their round on the 10th hole. I asked them if they were told they could start on the back, and they said yes. It's hard to overstate how frustrating that is, but it seems pretty standard for Lakeview these days.
The course has a very interesting and difficult layout, but many holes have really fallen into disrepair. The first green is kind of a mess and the 14th green is an absolute disaster that you can't really putt on; there is some sort of grass disease issue that hasn't been addressed, and that's been the case for quite a while now. Those two holes are the worst, but other greens have problems as well. I know it's winter, but when there were "rakes" around bunkers, many of them didn't have any teeth; just kind of emblematic of the level of maintenance out there these days. The practice green being useless due to the grass issue also says a lot about the state of disrepair of the course. The greens fees are still set as if it's a particularly nice course, though.
The course staff posted on Facebook about people tearing up ground with carts that day, and that certainly happened; some people were being obnoxious with carts. We were very confused whether or not it was cart path only, though; I wasn't told when checking in, and the cart GPS unit was saying only certain holes were CPO. I typically play 90 degrees even when it's not CPO, but given than no one in front of or behind us was playing CPO anywhere, I gave up on that on a few holes while still being careful not to damage anything. I do hate to see people tearing up a course, but the Facebook post was kind of ironic given the general lack of oversight of anything going on on the course.
Akways a good time
Playing in these latitudes in late December is a treat!
Always have a great time on this course
The Good & Bad
I’ll start with the positives. This is a beautiful course with a challenging and fun layout. Lots of elevation change. Several views of the lake (thus the name). Quite narrow in some places, but very fair. It’s a tough course but very enjoyable to play. Now to the negatives. The condition of the course has clearly declined over the years. Greens were very banged up and a few tee boxes had no grass whatsoever. Fairways seemed to be fine. The $23 hot deal was well worth the price, but I’m not sure I’d pay the $45+ they were asking to play in late November. All in all, I’ll be back, but I’d love to see the conditions improve because this is a fantastic layout.
Lakeview Golf Resort & Spa - Lakeview appreciates your business. We hope to guarantee you another positive experience soon!
Gone to the dogs apparently
I remember when this course was the top ones in the state, an elite course. Just to play it was an honor. And not that long ago. Times have changed in the last 10 years. I think anyone who remembers this course knows that it’s not the course it used to be - not the greens, not the fairways. No one replaces divots or ball marks on greens. It’s a mess. At least keep the people who live around the course from using the course like it’s a rail-trail. It’s really aggravating when you’re trying to tee off (multiple times) and people are walking their dogs in the middle of the fairway.
Beautiful scenery
Course could use some TLC high prices for low amenities
Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. We see you rated the course 2-stars and are interested in learning what we can do to improve for your next visit.
Beautiful setting.
After rain, played at a good pace. Nice layout with some narrow tree lined fairways. A few greens and fairways had some issues, brown patches. Overall it a fun course to play. No water hazards, except on the first hole but doesn't come into play.
Terrible conditions to golf today.
Front 9 was closed due to course maintenance. Back 9 was open but should have been closed as well. Aeration had just been done on greens and there was more sand on the greens than in the sand traps. I wasn’t made aware of the conditions until I loaded my cart up. One knock on this app is no face to face communication on course conditions before your round.
course wasn't really open
They had just aerated the greens and were in the processes of laying down sand. Putts picked up a ring of sand while rolling. It was like putting on a wet beach. The front nine was closed without noticed, so we were told just to play the back nine twice. But the back nine then obviously got really backed up. Meanwhile, they charged full price? The course should not even have been open.
Same issue, and then the staff acted like it wasn’t their fault. Asked for a refund and was laughed at and told no one knows what is going on there. Finding it harder to pay the price with this type of stuff.
Greens in rough condition
Slow play unregulated
Greens in terrible shape. Ball marks unkept and abused.
Terribly slow round 5 1/2 hrs of waiting.
This was one of my favorite courses to play but there is no course discipline anymore.
We're sorry to learn your experience with us was anything less than 5 stars. We hope you'll give us another shot soon.
We would love to hear more about your 4-star experience on our course. Please tell us what we can do to earn that last star, and thanks for golfing at Lakeview Golf Resort & Spa - Lakeview!
We appreciate the great rating! Be sure to book your next round with us soon.
played this course many times back in the 80's and it was almost PGA quality. NOT anymore, fairways had many, many burnt spots, I can live with bumping a ball a foot or so in any directions to avoid a bad spot in fairway, but greens were even worse. the 4 holes on back nine across the road,14-17 were terrible, with at least 1/4 to 1/3 of greens burnt up or just sand. sadly this once great course is no more than a second rate neighborhood public course that is WAY overpriced for the condition it is in. pace of play also terrible on number 7, had 2 groups in fairway/green and 3 groups waiting on box.
Hi, thank you for reviewing the course. Let us first start by apologizing for the poor experience you had during your visit. Your feedback about the course is important to us. We are working to get everything up to par. We have projects ongoing to recover the fairways and greens. The current condition is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. We are going to escalate your feedback to our team so we can make improvements before your next game, and we will continue to work towards an excellent experience by using your comment for guidance. Thank you for playing Lakeview Golf Resort & Spa - Lakeview. We hope to see you again soon.
Week of Golf at Lakeview
We finished a week of golf at Lakeview Resort today and I must say that it is well improved over last years stay. Fairways and greens were in much improved shape from last year. Tee boxes and bunkers need a good bit of work as well as the cart paths. A few greens were in need of attention but overall were better than last year.
It appears that the greens crew are trying their best and it is understandable that the money for improvements are tight with CV19...
It is always fun down here with my family and a friendly staff.
Thank you for your review. We will pass along your positive experience and feedback to our team at Lakeview Golf Resort & Spa - Lakeview. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. Thank you for the 4 stars! We aim for a 5-star experience, so we always welcome feedback for improvement. Thank you for playing Lakeview Golf Resort & Spa - Lakeview.
On the positive side, we were not stuck behind a group of 5 or 6 people as has become common at Lakeview.
