Van Cortlandt Park Golf Course

A fun course close to NYC. Fairways and greens were in good condition for a public course.

The tee time was excellent. Before the couse became crowed and backed up. Course is in very good condition

Nice clubhouse with friendly staff. The course plays well especially for beginners.

For an in-park course it was way above expectation. Awful pace of place and scheduling on the courses behalf.

Rough was too thick. Pace of play was good. Shorter holes and good, fast greens. Choose clubs wisely from tee boxes.

Played on a Thursday at 12:30 and course was empty - 3.5 hr round for 3 of us. Played on the 4th of July five years ago and played a 6 hr round - enough said!

I had a great time but it took close to 6 hours. Bumpy greens couldn't stop me though. Hey- it's da Bronx.

Slow Play, Slower Greens.

Too many hacks and the rangers don't care about idiots pulling their carts across the greens. Played yesterday behind a threesome and a foursome. If we didn't skip two holes it would have been a 5+ hour round with almost nobody on the course.

If the staff wants golfers to come play on the weekend they need to have their rangers move things along. Otherwise this will turn into a dog track filled with clueless newbies.

Enjoyed my first round at Van Cortlandt after moving from Chicago to NYC. The greens were in excellent shape and the course, although only 6100 yards is a fair test and was really fun to play. The staff is friendly, only drawback was the pace of play was a bit slow. Took 5 hours to play 18.

Found course in pretty good condition considering the amount of play. Only set back as usual slow play There are only 2 areas for restroom use and I think some port a potties are in order.

The course layout is friendly and so are the course staff. For a public facility, the fairways and greens are in good condition. Pace of play on Friday morning was about five hours. The rate was excellent at $48 including cart.

I really love this course. Living in Washington Heights, Manhattan, there's no easier course to get to than Vanny. A nice 1 Train trip on the subway a few stops, and I'm there for the twilight.

It's NYC, if you expect to go to a municipal course on a weekend during prime time, you get what you deserve, long play. However, if you either go super early, or later in the day, Vanny can be your personal country club. Usually it's empty, and you can't beat the price for walkers.

The grounds are very well maintained and the staff is super friendly. With the new turn-shack upgrade, no one should want for any food or swing oil. :-)

If you haven't been to the NYC Old Course since June, I highly suggest you try it again. Just go during off hours and you'll blow through in 4-5 hours.

It's my first time to come to this course. To my surprise that it's so nice the course. There many trees around the fairwa make the players filling good and relax. All staff work hard and friendly.

The course is very well treated. The pace is very fast and we enjoyed a lot. Also there are proper shades of threes.

While the course was in a convenient location in the Bronx, that was where the pluses end. I am a high handicapper so am used to the rough and have played in some real cabbage but felt this course's rough was like hitting off of a basketball court.

Wanted to play the oldest public golf course in the USA for a long time. Expected crowds and NYC gritty conditions but in fact the course is in very nice condition with the greens in very good condition. They are on the slow side but they have very subtle breaks that make them tricky. Beware that the course layout is odd so get some assistance. Back nine is especially pretty. Given its location - amazing. Weekends allow for a five hour round due to the layout and mix of players.

There were 16 people lined up on the first teee when I got there. The person working in the pro shop who kept sending people out had no idea what he was doing and had no regard for anything besides taking everyone's money. I asked for a refund since I didn't want to play a six hour round and he refused me in a very rude manner. I almost walked off and didn't even play because of the fact that there was four foursomes ahead of me. Truly unbelievable. Do not play this course.
