Pine Ridge Golf Club
About
Pine Ridge Golf Club was carved from pine forests in central Long Island. Located in Coram, the course's player-friendly layout is a popular choice for all skill levels. The narrow, tree-lined fairways demand accuracy and the greens are fast and can be hard to read but it's not an overly punishing golf course for high handicappers. The risk-reward opportunities will test your course management and strategic thinking skills. If played smartly, you could find yourself with a birdie, particularly on the two driveable par 4s on the front nine. Several bunkers lurk throughout and water comes into play occasionally as well. You'll also face several sharp doglegs, both left and right. In addition to the golf course, Pine Ridge also offers a practice facility that includes a driving range, putting green, and a large grass teeing area.

Long but beautiful day
I played as a single and walked while playing partners rode. I was inspired to play it as they had an early time 7:57am and looked a bit like the USGA Womens Open course. The layout is a bit funky in that there are several lengthy walks between holes. The course requires multiple signs to allow players to find their way as several times you loop around holes to the the next tee Conditioning was better than I expected following reviews. Greens appeared to be consistent speed wise but their structures are heavily contoured. Pace of play was strikingly slow especially given that it was early in the day and not more than a handful of groups in front of me. For us to finish at 1:15pm was unbelievable. The front nine which is much shorter than the back yielded waits on every shot and play was poorly paced at over 2:30 for the nine. We then waited on almost heavy hole on the back and was a grind that led to uninspired play. It was especially difficult as there were no benches on the course for sitting. I guess not much play except for players in carts. The course was pretty on a gorgeous day
Dog track
Played for the first time in a really long time because my buddy booked it. The course conditions to say the least are laughable. Off of the fairway is mostly sand and Sandy waste areas. That’s fine, being on Long Island we have a few of those courses and it’s a hazard. However when those sandy areas are all over the fairway it’s insane. They just don’t take care of this course. I get that some courses have fallen on hard times but this has been going on for years there. You would think they’d be embarrassed and want to take pride… nope, just charge $71 to walk. Prob spent all their money on the stupid tent that says pine ridge on it. The course also is in desperate need on a tree trimming. Literally every tee shot is thru a narrow shoot of overgrown trees. Lastly, just a dumb and hastily designed course. I think they need to close it for 2 years and bring in people who care. I will say the staff was extremely friendly
Great course!
I enjoy the layout at Pine Ridge! Great challenge and pace of play!
Beginners luck
My first course ever played and I love it, I brought 2 of my newer golf friends who’s had their first time and it was great. Even tho we stink at golf I felt the course is very easy to play shot a birdie and on first round ever guess it was just beginners luck.
Worst course in suffolk county
This course has the worst conditions I’ve ever seen. Never coming back here. Rolling oaks and pine ridge are neck and neck for worst course on the island.
Never come here
This course is awful, conditions are the worst I’ve seen. They don’t maintain the course at all. Some of the greens even have sandpits in the middle of them. Clearly going downhill and actually used to be a decent course a few years back, very sad. Don’t waste your money go somewhere else.
Condition
The traps are terrible!
The fairways were mediocre
The rough around the greens are bald
The greens were aerated the greens fee has to be discounted! How do you charge full price when the course is playing at a 4/10 at best….. Put some money into the course it has potential! I remember these greens and fairways were awesome like 3/4 years ago what happened to this place
Horrible conditions
Worst course conditions I have ever experienced. Greens were full of bare spots measuring approx.1 foot by 2 foot and some were about 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep. Cart paths are dirt with roots and pot holes ( like the LIE). Fairways had far too many bare spots.
It’s a nice enough course to get a quick 18
I play this course a lot but I only play in the afternoons when I know there are open tee times from checking so I hardly ever wait (except weekends). If I do wait I just play slower with a couple balls or skip around. I finish 18 in less than 3 hours average walking leisurely. I usually play from the whites and I am long enough to play from the blues but if it’s windy the blue will feel like the tips in a lot of the holes. Most groups that are slow are usually playing from the blues and really have no business playing from there because they either are in the woods or barely past the golds on their drive.
The tee boxes are good with lots of grass and expected divots. Not bald or patchy.
The fairways are good also like the tee boxes and not bald or patchy. The first cut is not thick so your ball will usually run out to the sides which are usually sandy on both sides and roots closer to the trees. Trees left and right on every hole.
The trees are bare at the moment but there are lots of dried up leaves so if your ball stays up or in a trampled area you’ll easily find it otherwise if it sinks then you won’t.
The greens are nice and clean with not many ball marks and rolls nicely and semi-fast. Many undulations in the greens and some are not too obvious but will break a lot. There are a couple holes that had huge fungus issues but they filled them with sand and grass is starting to grow back in. May or may not be an issue depending on where they put the holes.
The layout is mostly different throughout and definitely favors a righty fader more than a draw-er but both is preferred. There are slight elevation changes but nothing major. I like the course because woods trouble on almost every drive, driver is not necessary on every drive and lots of risk/reward chances. If you don’t put the ball in the right spots, you’ll have to shape the ball most times. I definitely go through my whole bag 3-p, gw, sw, 3-hybrid, 3wood and driver.
Hole 1 - short 4 with slight dogleg right. Bunker left.
2 - long 4 with slight dogleg right. Fairway bunkers left. Approach usually plays farther than is and water on right. Bunkers left and front-right.
3 - short 4 dogleg left. Make sure you get past the 150 marker on your tee shot otherwise you will still be blocked on your approach. Long fairway bunker at end of fairway and impossible to hit a hook long enough to get past it.
4 - short, drivable 4 with bunkers/sand area left and right.
5 - mid-long 3. Bunkers left and right.
6 - straight 4. Long fairway bunker right and green bunkers left and back right.
7 - straight 3. Bunkers left and right.
8 - straight 5 but all balls run out to the right. A slight running draw hugging the left is the preferred shot and will give you a 2nd shot to the green. Bunker right.
9 - short 4 very birdie-able. Bunker left and right.
10 - mid 3. Bunker right.
11 - true 5. Tee shot before the water and 2nd over. Water on the right on 2nd. Green is fast, tough and has lots of breaks and par is a great score here. Bunkers left and right.
12 - straight 4. Bunkers left and right.
13 - long, long 4. Against the wind, this is a 5. Bunkers right and backside.
14 - dogleg right 5. Get tee shot far enough and closer to the middle-left otherwise you’re hitting a blind 2nd and may even be blocked out on the right still.
15 - short 3. Bunker right.
16 - dogleg right 4. Stay away from the right and get it at least to the 150 marker away from the right otherwise you are blocked still. Huge mound on front left-side of the green.
17 - straight 3 over the water. Bunkers left and right.
18 - straight 4 drive over the water. Balls seem to run out to the right. Green looks fast but is a little bit slower due to the shade. Big breaks. Big bunker left.
Needs a ranger
40 minute delayed tee off time. Than waited on the first 11 holes. On the 12th hole we got a little behind and guess what a ranger? Shows up and accuses us of slow play. Says a group behind us called in to report us! Holes 15 - 18 had to wait again on every tee box.
