Great course but slow play
Great course but slow play and lack of golf etiquette. Didn’t get to complete 18 holes as it became dark. It took 4 hours to get to hole 12 where play had to be suspended. Wish I could get some money back or a free cart next time. Too many inexperienced golfers for a Saturday.
Stay away from trees
The course is in need of maintenance to remove numerous broken tree branches that affect play.
Short, Tight, and Firm Greens
Short course out in Queens, no par 5's (par 64). But what it lacks in distance it makes up for in tightness and challenging greens. Greens ran faster than other city courses I've played recently and were firmer than most I've played around NYC. There's some leftover debrief from the recent storm but nothing terrible. Also a few burnt out areas around the greens (i.e. - no grass at all), but pins were usually located farther from any barren spots. Definitely a fun track!
Great Course To Get Away From Your GF/Wife/Both!
Great course. Played on a Sunday at two pm and we waited ten to fifteen minutes (I'm not sure why I can't write numbers in my review).
Processing
Their COVID measures are great. Plenty of distancing and the carts are washed after each group. Check in was quick and the person that let's you in and the guy at the register are very professional (I don't really like people that yap too much to be honest lol and these guys are straight to the point).
Course
I feel this course is perfect for those starting out or wants to work on your short game. Most courses are over six thousand yards, however, this course is forty six hundred yards from the black tees . This is ideal for someone starting out wanting to work on their short to mid range game. You really don't need a driver except for a few holes and even then I just used a three wood or a four iron and it didn't matter because driver or not, you'll get it on green at two at best most times.
This has some great holes with elevation and depressions so judging distance is going to be a bit tricky. Also the fairways aren't too wide so really helps hone your accuracy. The putting green are well kept, fairways are well kept, driving box is alright but you're teeing up most time so doesn't matter too much. One thing I'll say is that there a good deal of divots on the par threes but really players gotta fix their divots!!! UGH.
Busy Times, Cart Rentals
Weekends are busy, go during a weekday and they usually have some nice deals going too. You can book online for a pretty cheap (Thirty a player or twenty four with a searchable discount codes and tax). The cart rental is separate and you have to do it when you get there. It's fifteen a cart so not too bad.
All in all I love this course. I need to work on my short game so I sometimes go without a driver even lol. Back nine definitely more challenging when it comes to putting. Front nine is a mid range challenge in my opinion.
Hope this was helpful
Three Putt Pro
Sorry for not taking pictures. I'll do it in my next review.
Tight, hilly course requiring lots accuracy, patience, and... a cart.
This course is very tight: A single tree line can separate a hole, and some holes there are none. Balls fly into each other's fairway all the time. Each of the first 4 holes are littered with balls (even on the fairway) from people who stopped caring to look for their ball. This course is a lost golf ball recovery service's dream! Fairways are firm are on angles on many holes; fairways hit can bounce the ball into the rough or beyond. Conservative play is key because bad shots will be punished and good shots can be punished too. There are only 2 par 4s over 350 yds. And one of those par 4s play short due to the elevation. No par 5s.
The greens are tiny and 8 of them are par 3s. Most are in rough shape and are on punishing mounds; if you land around the green, your ball can bounce far away, sometimes into the woods.
Rough is pretty low but not well maintained. it was very patchy with lots of exposed dirty, clumps of grass, loose sticks, fallen tree limbs, and tight lies. Especially for the holes at lower elevations.
Play with a golf cart unless you are trying to prove something physically. Too much energy pushing a bag cart or carrying up these hills. I regretted it, so did my partner, and other first timers I ran into that day.
Staff was iffy. Starter needs a personality but cart girl was very friendly, patience, and considerate. Beyond them, I saw no one else outside the clubhouse. Walk in thru the gate, the starter has your info, you go to first tee. Late? Your out of luck.
Too many nice courses in my area to come back to this place again of my own volition. It's a glorified pitch and putt course. Amazingly enough, on a Saturday late morning/early afternoon play through, pace was great. That was probably the best part or playing here. No one even caught up to us until the 18th.
