Executive track with deceptive difficulty
Based solely on this days round. Pace of play was the worst I ever seen at this place. Beautiful weather on a Friday afternoon. Finally approached the box 35 minutes after my scheduled tee time. Front 9 took 3 hours 10 minutes and finished the back in 2 hours 25 minutes. Not one ranger in sight to regulate pace. I know this happens often on a NYC muni but it was annoying because a young foursome was jumping around holes cutting between parties with no regards to others.
Course conditions were average for NYC standards. Tee boxes were beaten up for the most part and fairways were in pretty good shape. The greens just about on all holes looks as if someone took an machine gun and shot holes in them. This of course isn't the staff's fault because players in NYC just don't their balls marks on the greens.
Despite the executive length, fairways are moderately narrow and greens are for the most part small. Spraying tee shots will punish many high handicappers especially when they underestimate this track. The par 3's on 7, 9, 12, and 14 plays difficult especially for high handicappers. With wind blowing hitting these small greens isn't that easy due to the elevation changes on all 4 holes. For the rest of the course, any decent player could place tee shots in fairways with good course management by hitting fairway woods, long irons and hybrids. It's the players who use driver on all par 4's that spray who have difficulty here.
Anyways staff is extremely friendly. Great short convenient track for Queens locals.
Luv this coarse
It may be small but it's challenging... if your that good then use your club that goes 200 yards and go from there... greens are small so accuracy is paramount
Lots of elevated tees and a few up hill so the challenge is there!
Quick round
Kissena is a relatively short course that has no par 5's. The course itself is not overly challenging with a decent layout. The first there holes allow you to move your ball back into the proper fairway if you happen to slice your tee shot into the wrong fairway (local rule), which helps keep the pace moving along early on. The course itself was in decent condition, but several of ten greens were littered with unrepaired pitch marks, which made putting less than ideal on some holes. They do have signs out to repair your pitch marks but clearly not many people do so. Overall, a decent round that finished in 4 hours (6:15am tee time).
NOT BAD
NOT BAD FOR THE PRICE. NOT REAL DIFICULT. NOT ALOT OF TROUBLE. PACE OF PLAY COULD BE BETTER.
First time out this year, really enjoyed the round
6 hour round
I understand the pace of play is generally prolonged on weekends especially when playing at municipal courses however when we arrived at the club house to check in for our tee time we were told by the friendly club house manager there was a bit of a delay due to the starting up of the golf league which generally runs every other Sunday. However this still does not absolve an hour delay in tee time or a 6 hour round of golf. How about you remove the designated tee times from golf now when the golf league is running to avoid triple booking tee times and delaying tee times etc? But then again I guess this would eat away at course profits and hinder course maintenance (sarcasm).
Love this little course
Hey its winter and you cannot expect things to be in great shape. The greens have taken a pounding but it plays. Overall this short course is a challenge and fun. I have been fairly lucky and the pace of play has been good. Steve who runs the place is a great guy and made us feel right at home. I really enjoy playing here
Quick round
Not bad for a quick round of golf. No par 5's good course
Dogtrack
Absolute dogtrack. Worst conditions I've ever seen. No grass on the tee boxes, no grass on the greens. Busy on Thursday at noon. Not worth the $20 I spent.
Plain and simple, a dump!
It boggles my mind how this course is rated so high,
While all the other city courses have made advancements, Kissena is left in the Stone Age.
With that being said...
Pros:
1.Good for the beginner, seniors or very short hitters.
2. It is deceptively challenging for a short course.
Cons:
1. if you don't play during the growing season (may) , the course gets burnt out shortly after.
2. The Worst kept greens, I have ever seen on a golf course.
3. Pretentious rude golfers.(this is not Augusta)
4. Slow! For short course this course shouldn't not take more than 4 hours to play on a NYC weekend.
It should be remodeled as a 9 hole course, with a modern practice facility for all skill levels.
Kissena Park Golf Course
Short course, easy access and can be done in less than 4 hours. A good practice course for short game with a few challenging green.
The course is in good shape
Will be back I like this course
Convenient Executive Course
Although it's an executive course, the layout allows you still hit driver or long iron off the tee. The layout is full of hills with plenty of elevated greens and tees. The course is definitely way over priced but serves as a good option for those needing a local course. Pace of play is horrible unless you're one of the first few groups out. Greens are in good shape but slow. If you have the time, I think it's better to drive a little farther for better options.
Great Course in the heart of queens!
This is a great course and i come here at least twice a month. The conditions are always great and the course is very well maintained. The course has some holes that are extremely easy, while there's other holes that are extremely difficult. The only downside is that there is not any par 5's, but after that i would recommend this course to anyone.
What a surprise!
This is my first review so you know it must have been a good round to warrant this.
First off all amenities are close to the 1st and 10th tees. So it's easy to grab a snack burger or dog, bathroom break or pro' shop. The pro shop didn't have much to offer but then again I'm not to NYC courses for the pro shop offerings besides some tees.
It is true that this course is short but I found myself pulling out my driver more than I thought I would have. The course was in beyond excellent condition. The greens are super challenging and manybofnyhe par 3's are tough with elevated or floating greens below the tees. The fairways are very narrow.
We tees off at 730. And finished at noon. A 4.5 hour round in NYC?! Awesome!
We didn't have any body pushing up on us and there wasn't a wait on the holes. We just played at our own pace and had issues at all.
Best most enjoyable round I've played in NYC yet!
CP
Nice course, slow pace
Great little course. It is maintained really well, although the greens were really slow due to the greens not being cut to proper height. But it was still a great course.
But the pace of play is horrible. No marshals around to tell people to pick up the pace. Groups ahead took forever. They weren't good, but took enough practice swings to make a golf pro blush.
