Clifton Highlands Golf Course

About
Clifton Highlands Golf Club, just north of Prescott, enjoys a scenic location overlooking the St. Croix River Valley. The club offers a championship 18-hole course as well as a par-3 course. Dr. Gordon Emerson, Wisconsin's most prolific course designer, designed the Championship Course. He considered it some of his best work. The golf course has enough diversity to appeal to both low and high handicappers. The layout is fairly tight with mature trees framing many of the holes. The undulating greens and fairways are meticulously maintained. A combination of water and sand comes into play, providing a fair amount of challenges without being too punishing. In addition to the 27 holes, Clifton Highlands G.C. also has a driving range and practice greens that are adjacent to the first tees of both golf courses.

Good challenging course for great value
Bery friendly and flexible staff, challenging greens and the course is always well maintained.
Good bang for your buck
Not an overly long course but have to be good around the greens. overall course is pretty good, but for the price the course is great. Staff was not overly friendly.
Perfect March golf in Wisconsin
First of all, the staff was wonderful, enthusiastic and proud of their facility. I can understand why, from tee to green the course perfect. Much better than most so called high end courses in June. Greens were lush, cut and true. They are a true test of putting skills, large with professional contour. Tees the same, immaculate. Fairways were unblemished without a single leaf or twig. Traps were dry, soft and challenging. Pace of play was a mere four hours of leisure and such a peaceful setting. Not lined with homes. Greens and upcoming tee boxes are generously spaced and secluded so there's never interference. Course is always challenging but fair with risk / reward opportunities. Carts are very well maintained and pride of ownership shows. Enjoyed it so much I had another 4 some out the following day! Major accolades to the entire Clifton Highlands team for preparing the course for any early start.
Thank you for another amazing golf experience.
Cool beautiful day for golf
Enjoyed the outing. Great deal. Did lose a couple balls in the leaves but I didn't care cuz it was a beautiful November day of golf
Great Fall time golf.
We had a great day for golf and the course was in nice shape and the greens were quick.
Will be back to play the course again even with the drive from Mpls, Mn.
Great fall course
The greens were tight and level, no dimples from aerating which can be rare in late September.
nice little golf course
This course is among the cornfields of Wisconsin in a little wooded patch with some undulations on the back nine. It's a pleasant little course with nice scenery. Stay below the hole on almost every green as most are sloped back to front. Precision and club selection is much more important than distance. It's not very difficult, just a nice fun golf course
Nice course
Greens and tee boxes in great shape. Most fairways in good shape with a few rough spots. Off the fairways several areas with large bare dirt patches, especially in shaded areas. Good overall shape and not too hard if you don't spray it.
Fun Afternoon
Course is in very good shape. Tee's, greens, and fairways are excellent. Played in 4 hours following a five-some. No problems there. If you haven't, best give this track a try.
good value
this was my first time playing this course. the price was right and it was it good condition after strong storms the night before. we had 3 groups of seniors ahead of us so the pace slow on the front 9 but pick up on the back. the staff was friendly.
5 stars
Best greeens in the metro area. All around a very good day of golf. Been playing here for many years. The go to course for an enjoyable day
New Golfer
I am a new golfer so maybe it is common to be paired up when golfing but I was pretty upset. In fact, I almost walked away. I had paid online and so I figured I better play. The guys I was paired up with were great. They were friendly and very understanding but because they are much better than I am it slowed their play down significantly and it got to the point that I really didn't get my full round because I picked up my ball a lot on the green to help with the pace of play. When I arrived at the course they told me because we booked through golfnow.com we got paired up. They were not very friendly about it. I could tell they were annoyed that I booked my round through the website. SORRY TO INCONVENIENCE THEM. WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN! I am weird in that I like to golf alone because it allows me some time to myself. Its a de-stresser. I definitely won't be going back to this course again and would not recommend it to others! The pro shop was not fun to deal with at all.
Tough course
Course was challenging at times, greens were tough you better get close to the pins, don't go long, fairways where we'll manicured when hitting from them. We played 36 holes and it was needed to fiqure out landing areas. Me and my boys had a good time and will play again.
Nice Track
Highlands is about 40 miles from my home and well worth the drive. I will definitely play it again.
Great price
Beautiful course and the staff and other patrons were over the top friendly. We will definitely be back, many more times in the coming future.
Better than expected!
Beautiful course! Great layout, challenging holes, and the condition of the fairways and greens was excellent! Was actually very surprised to find such nicely cut fairways and greens...much better than a lot of courses nearby that charge more. Only issue I had was finding the place - if you've never been there, read on:
The map on GolfNow showed it as being in Prescott proper, but it is not, it is several miles north of Prescott. The GPS was also confused because there are two roads called "MM" because there are two different counties you pass through when driving south on County Road F as the GPS directs you to go. Also as you are driving south on F you come to a sign that says "Highland Golf Course" with an arrow pointing left. I didn't think this was it because there are several courses out here with similar names, and this sign didn't say "Clifton" Highlands, so I kept driving towards Prescott. Once in Prescott the GPS was confused and pointing me back north. I pulled over and called Pro Shop and even the associate on the phone said that Highland was a different course than Clifton Highlands(?)....turns out, its all the same place...perhaps they combined two courses I don't know? Easy fix = change your sign! I pulled up a map on the interweb prior to writing this review and the map even shows two different golf courses - one called Highland and one called Clifton Highlands. Oh, and the associate in the pro shop had a golf shirt on that said Highland Golf Course ...even though I was playing at a place called Clifton Highlands....splitting hairs?... I'm not sure, just know that it would be easier if they had one name / correct sign.
Terrific local option
Nice course and very friendly staff. The course superintendent (Todd?) went out of his way to welcome us with a few playing tips for the day!
Great Course Great People
We had a wonderful day on the course. It was in excellent shape.
Good Golf
A little rain, 55 out that day, late in the year, good day had by all 4. Course is always in good shape & great for this time of year. Thanks.
Love the set up of the course
I will continue to play this course yearly, friendly staff and pace of play is wonderful. 3.5 hours on the weekend
A 5 star rating???? Have you not played any other courses. This course is at most a 2 star. I will not go back and would discourage anyone from playing it.
