Good challenge
Deer Valley is a very scenic golf course that will offer some very unique challenges to any golfer at any of the tee boxes. The vistas from the top of numerous hills is equaled by the views from the base of the valleys. A must to play at least once to enjoy the play and the view. This would not be a course to play without a riding cart unless you like the challenge of mountain climbing. Staff was good and there is a snack bar/clubhouse.
Great Day of Golf
Wonderful weather and Outstanding course! Even with the course being very busy, play was smooth. Will return!
Very, nice scenic.
Holes were fun and challenging, very thick rough. If you tend to veer off the fairway, bring a lot of balls.
Awesome views, great price
I've played this course 3 times now and had a great round every time. The scenery is pretty incredible (especially the Valley 9), and the course has some really interesting layouts taking advantage of the hills and valleys. Conditions when I've played have been pretty good. Not country club nice, but well above muni, and for the price it is a phenomenal value.
Staff are always friendly. They figured out on their own that they overcharged me a couple dollars for our round and came and found me to give me a refund.
Great course, and for the price I don't know that you can do better.
Nice layout but really poor conditions
This course had been on my list to play for quite some time. While it did have an interesting layout with several memorable holes (e.g., Ridge 5 and 6), the conditions and manicuring of the course were below sub-par. Maybe we just went at a bad time. However, they supposedly had their club championship that morning, so I'd assume that the manicuring would be up to par.
The fairway grass was very long--almost first cut rough long on many courses. The grass on tee boxes was also a tad long too with many broadleaf weeds and broad grass peppering the boxes. I had a hard time finding a spot to tee up on many of the boxes among all the distracting weeds. Speaking of the boxes, many weren't anywhere level either with slopes in the tee boxes. That has nothing to do with grooming.
The greens were also on the shaggy side with tufts of grass sticking up; they were a little beat up on top of that. Balls bounced all over the place when rolling. The greens were on the former side, however, which was a saving grace.
The range was also disappointing. It was really beat up and it was hard to find a spot that wasn't dirt/sand. What's worse was that one of my tokens gave me maybe 12 balls (for $3). Luckily, the second gave me closer to the promised 25-30 balls.
Given how late it is in the season, I can expect the fairways having some divots and wear along with the tee boxes. I expect greens to have some ball marks, especially given the club championship that morning. However, the poor manicuring, shaggy grass, and the unleveled/weed ridden tee boxes are unacceptable. I don't expect country club standards, but I do expect it to be at least on par with typical municipal courses. This course fell far short in this regard making nearby courses like Pleasantview in Middleton look like a TPC course.
It's such a shame. The course has beautiful vistas and many interesting holes. The varied and sometimes drastic elevation changes yield exciting and dramatic shots. Perhaps the course just needs a new superintendent.
Tip: Play with someone who has played the course before or otherwise definitely get a course guide. Much of the course, especially the front 9, is sparsely populated with trees or really anything to judge distance and depth, especially with the drastic elevation changes. Distances can be very deceiving. Many, many blind shots compound this challenge. Also, you will most definitely need to take a cart, if only because there can be large gaps between greens and the next tees and some winding paths on a few holes (e.g., Ridge 5 & 6). It's more of an issue of pace of play; though, it would be a challenging walk for most. This is unfortunate, as I dislike carts and greatly prefer to walk.
Deer Valley Barnaveld WI
NO flat sots on the entire course. To many blind shots and greens that run away without you having any possible knowledge.
First cut was real shaggy.
Interesting and scenic course
The greens were a bit slow and many of them slanted away from the front making it difficult to hold the green
Avoid Valley 9
Good value, excellent staff. Avoid playing the Valley 9 as there are too many blind shots. Will play again. Great views
Great Scenic View and a challenging course
This is a great course with 45 holes of golf which go up and down in the hills of Wisconsin. Views and Scenery are fantastic. Somewhat challenging and the par 3 down the hill 50 yards is a great hole.
Course was in great shape, great views
Overall great experience, had my best round ever. Will definitely be back.
Unwelcoming
I had a 9:52 tee time. when we arrived and went to check in the person was not welcoming at all and was not very helpful. The course was dry. When we were about done with the front nine the course attendants started to mow the greens and fairways. It seems late to start grooming the course for the day. For the hotdeal price it was okay but I am not planning on going back.
Almost a mountain links course
Played the back tees (gold). Tough layout disputed the short yardage (6600 yards)
Deer Valley
Great course, staff was very friendly and helpful. Great deal with Golfnow.
First Wi outing in 2016
The course was in good shape for early spring. Greens came thru the winter in good shape. I played the ridge and prairie 9s. I enjoy the course because of the variety of layout of the holes.
A course with challenges around every corner and over every hill.
This is a very picturesque course as it covers a valley and two side hill areas that have flats, hills, and slopes in a beautiful glacial area. To appreciate what to do on this course it helps to have played it at least once already or to be along with someone who has played it. There are major tough areas and subtle tough areas that produce interesting challenges- one of the reasons I keep coming back. In the last couple years some tall grass and bushy areas have been cut back to take a bit of the sting out of the course without making it an easy course. Hole #1 pumps you up right away, as it starts out at the top of the shallower part of the valley and then goes up hill all the rest of the way- a par 5 about 500 total yards. 3 nines give you the choice of a valley nine or two hilltop nines, one of which dips in and out of the valley utilizing their signature par 3 hole that drops approximately 100 or more feet to a green protected by a hill of shrubbery and trees with a pond in front of the green which requires 100 to 125 yards of hitting distance to make the green. This is followed by a par 4 dogleg right back up the hill adjacent to the par 3 hole. Love the combination. You will find just about every possible combination of hitting situations that you could possibly find anywhere- keeps it very interesting.
Ridge and Valley
The Ridge course was beautiful and the views are fabulous. We love the club house and the prices.
The Valley was challenging but we enjoyed this anyways. We love to try different courses and love our visit to Deer Valley.
Lots of Rolling Hills here to Enjoy!
Deer Valley has been on my Bucket list for quite awhile. I was in Madison or the weekend and played on twenty seven holes here. 3 completely different 9 Hole Courses, but I loved the lay out. First let me say I liked the staff's help. And getting a free yardage booklet to all first time players is sure class. A lot of course you have to buy them, so Bravo. I was paired up with 2 soon to be college young men, and we hit the Ridge course, I played the god's on all 3 courses, or back tee's. And did not find difficult at all. The ridge has no hard holes on it. The famed par 3 5th hole is very easy, hit a wedge and your dancing on the green from any tee block. The Ridge is a nice layout of rolling hill land scape, but wide open and always bale out to the left to play safe. But huge fairways makes the Ridges very ease to play for all levels, hard to loose a ball on the Ridges.
On to the next 9 the young men ad I Played the Back 9 to this 27 hole layout called the Prairie. Now the Prairie had again rolling hills and some blind shots, but again id open fairways makes this fairly easy even to a beginner golfer. And it plays shorter tan the Ridges by a few hundred yards. But the only tuff hole here on this 9 was and I pared it was hole 11. From the gold nice polk, finally a par 3 that had some distance at 218. But I watched the boys I played with from the whites on the prairie nearly drive a few greens. so this 18 Holes is not long at all, but average length a best for this 2 9s. They have as there 18 Hole Course. The View were breath taking, but this was very ease to play, I holed out from the gold's with a ridge 9 score of 40, and a Prairie9 score of 40=80.
Then I went on to play what I considered the Valley course to be the hidden gem of this layout. Talk about playing bowling bowl golf here. What I mean is, that this 9' s very sort, but lake playing on a bowling lane. so Narrow. If your a great golfer a it straight every time, u will shoot par here. Though a par 35 only, This course is tricky. I had 4 par's but 5 Double B's Here for a 45. The Valley Chewed me up. Nice place. Great 1 time play. I would Recommend it!!!
First Wisconsin Golf
Wonderful course. Very hilly. Georgous views.
Mishits could put you into the heather you couldn't see. Or down an aembankment you had to navigate back up. Semi-tough but wonderful site lines.
