Nice day Photo submitted by frankiejo63 on 04/09/2019
Play at Stonebridge
Very slow play, course conditions not good, layout pop or. I would not play there again for half the price.
Playing Stonebridge
Very slow pace of play. Fairways mostly just flair. Sand straps poor condition. Many tee boxes very close to other hole greens. Left after nine holes and 2hours 45 min
Stonebridge - Good Value
Course fee makes it great value. Golf carts are new and flat screen was spot on / Tee boxes in horrible shape / Greens in good condition.
Starter named Jack was very professional with a Great personality and very knowledgeable
Enjoyed the round especially for a weekend.. 4:30 hour round
Way too slow
3 Hours for 9 Holes was just way too long. I quit at the turn.
Nice Course
Course is in beautiful shape.
Greens are moderate speed in great condition. Worth the money.
Long Day
Fun course to play, overall. However a 5 and a half hour round is ridiculous. The tee boxes are still in poor shape and many of the holes are so tight that you are in the lines of fire from groups coming towards you.
Saturday Golf
I love this course but yesterday the pace of play was awful so many terrible golfers with no idea about edicate wasting so much time with practice swings and looking for the ball. The ranger was not keeping on top of this and the rounds were not spaced far enough apart.
Fairly nice course
Biggest issue is virtually all the tee boxes are bowed. A bad lie on the course is one thing. But on the tee boxes? Why?
I’d never go back!
I don’t like leaving bad reviews, but my recent experience there warrants one for sure.
Firstly, the condition of the course was very poor. For a 60 dollar round without carts, I would expect better maintenance. The amount of divots in the tee boxes was only eclipsed by how horribly arched it was. It was like trying to hit off of an upside-down bowl. The tee-box is supposed to be a place where you aren’t concerned about your lie…not the case here. On top of that, the greens are borderline miniature golf greens with undulation that is absurd. Because of it, there are drainage grates in the middle of the green and huge areas that are mud instead of grass. It’s not that putting there is hard, but some of the most difficult golf courses in the world don’t have circus-like putting greens like Stonebridge.
Personally I wouldn’t leave a bad review about course conditions alone. But on top of the conditions, I was blown away by how rude the staff was….particularly the golf marshal. We finished our round in 4 hours and 20 minutes which is pretty standard for walking the course. We were asked to pick up the pace of play initially which we happily obliged, however the marshal came back around a second time to ask again after hawking us for 25 minutes, making us extremely uncomfortable. But this time, I was openly berated in front of other people by the marshal as if I was a little kid. He was angrily yelling at us to pick up the pace, yet again, but this time, the way he spoke to us, quite literally yelling, was beyond disrespectful. Mind you, we finished our round in 4 hours and 20 minutes which in my understanding is the average pace of play. Throughout our whole round, not once was the group behind us waiting on us to finish.
Smithtown Landing around the corner, which is a town course, is light years better for less $. They give you access to a driving range, chipping area, bunker practice, and two huge practice putting greens. Stonebridge gives you access to one tiny practice green to warm up before your round because there driving range is for members only. I can’t imagine who in their right mind would pay to be a member there!
Never ever going back.
Always a Challenge
This course punishes mistakes. It is a beautiful, yet tight course with all the features that make golf a challenge, water, traps, undulating greens and fairways and tight tree-lined fairways.
Pace of play
Course has a great layout, but the pace of play was to slow. A lot of players were hitting three balls off the box. And spent to much time looking for their balls. Other than that it is a good course.
Practically Unplayable
Hard to overstate how hard this course has fallen. It used to be pretty decent, maybe even above average. Now it’s an absolute mess. Even municipal courses in the NYC area are in much better condition. You would think the grass hasn’t had any water in two months. Even the fairways have huge browned out patches. If you miss the fairway by a few yards, he probably won’t even be on grass. The greens were always a little weird in how they are structured, but they are also in bad shape. Good luck finding a level spot in the tee boxes, and there probably won’t be very much grass.
The course is part of a community and those people must be furious at what it’s become. Either the management company is doing a terrible job, or the local’s refuse to pay another dime to fix it. Either way, what a sad waste of potential. feel bad writing this because the people that work there are very nice, but I can’t see going back there anytime soon.
