Grey Hawk Golf Club

The course is definitely suffering from many problems with their grass, which is slightly important for a golf course. The fairways are long in areas that aren't burnt dry. The greens seem to have a fungus issue and have many blotches. The mounds along the fairway are mostly bare. All sand is unkept and many of them are being converted to grass bunkers by simply leaving them alone and allowing weeds and thistle to grow ramp and in them. Save your money and don't even waste your time going there anymore.

I have never played a course that had a more hard surfaces fairway as GreyHawk.

When this place first opened it opened with high hopes. But seems that fr whatever reason it did not pan out.

The fees were great but when my son and I got there we were told no starter is working so feel free to get on 1st tee box and go - 34 minutes early. Boy was that a bad idea. 5:15 to play 18. That's FIVE HOURS!!!

Interestingly the greens were good and interesting and challenging. However, the fairways and out of bounds were sure autroscious. On nearly every 4 and 5 tee off we'd have the ball land in the fairway and bounce another 70-120 yards off the fairway into roadways, water, woods and vacant lots. And those lots. What an eyesore. It's obvious the planned development didn't go as planned.

I have played here every year since 2011 - never again.

I recommended to anyone to consider any other local track except this sadly neglected and poorly run course. Until there is hard evidence that carried taken and diligence in improvement has been taken

I've played this course a lot since it first opened and it's tough to watch. It's just not getting the money it needs to be kept up with and watered fully. You can tell the layout and base is there but the fairways are burned, greens need attention, some bunkers are GUR. At this point you're paying for the layout and above average golf cart. Our tee time was not a Hot Deal time and I think it was cheaper to just pay at the course. There was not a rush of a people although we did get stuck behind a 6-some...no ranger in sight.

OK, we can criticize the course conditions, but the new Mgmt team is certainly trying to get the course back to when it first opened (over 10yrs ago) as the most challenging layout in the area. Sand traps are being removed, mounds being leveled, and better course maintenance (aerification process) ....all to better enhance the players' enjoyment of a pretty challenging layout. Everything is hard & fast right now, so expect long drives and the greens not holding some approaches. You still have to hit great shots on #7 or 11 (an Island green), so just have fun, and complain more about your bad foot or all the paperwork on your desk. I do admit tho, I usually have to complain about the wind constantly plays havoc at GreyHawk. Hit it long & straight & you'll have no worries.

Grew Hawk is a fraction of what it used to be. Fairways are still mostly burnt out and in awful condition in general. Most bunkers are unplayable. Greens are respectable but I think the people that play don't care anymore to fix any ball marks. Why would they; there is little to no maintenance going on at this place.

I won't be spending my money to play here again.

Just as the title says, this used to be a first class gorgeous course, have not played it in a few years and was very disappointed at what it has become. Friendly staff and a re-launch of the pub and restaurant make for an enjoyable experience off the course, but that doesn't make up for the burnt-out fairways, unkept bunkers and random construction throughout the entire 18 holes.

Could be a great course with time and money.

This course is one of the most challenging and fun tracks in the area, and I think everyone can agree on that. Some of the holes are very interesting and just have great shot planning elements involved.

That being said, the "good" of this course ends there. From the burnt out fairways (on June 1st?), to the slow, bumpy greens, to the overgrown neglected rough and landscaping, to the literally unplayable dirt bunkers, I was in shock to see how horribly this course has aged since I last played it in 2014.

The majority of the bunkers are just left to rot it seems. Probably 60-70% of them were dirt at this point, and marked for ground under repair. I didn't see a single crew working on anything on the course for the 4+ hours I was on it. Obviously a bad sign. I wish I could've seen them being proactive in kicking this great track into shape, they weren't.

The fairways looked like it was August, and hadn't seen rain in a month. Brown spots all over. Dirt spots throughout.

The greens were the only green part of the course outside of the tee boxes. Both played subpar though. The greens were just not receptive to any shots which is tough and fun, but not when you can't roll a putt on them. They were slow, bumpy, and inconsistent.

I paid $31 for 18 and a cart on a Wednesday morning. Honestly, a fair price for this course as I played it should have been under $25 at least. I definitely felt slighted and ripped off.

If the management at Grey Hawk had some money to work with they could make this course one of the best in the area easily, and charge whatever they want. It just needs a whole lot of TLC as it seems nothing has been taken care of in years. It is so disappointing to see a great layout and piece of land go to waste.

I played this course two years ago and it was very challenging, but in great shape. This time around, the majority of the bunkers were empty and hard, the greens were also very hard and balls would just bounce out, they were so hard there was no divots to repair and the fairways were burned out with weeds growing in many areas. Although there were grounds keepers working on a couple of holes I will not play there again until they make major improvements.

really like the layout, but the conditions are average at best. greens are getting better, but still on the slow, bumpy side. fairways are decent, but number 9 especially has many bare areas, needs to be redone. the rough is better than early spring, weeds are finally being treated. traps are iffy, some have new sand, some are pretty bare, some have weeds but not as bad as earlier in the season. hope the new owners continue the improvements, but looks like a slow process.

Really nice golf course !

Played the course for the first time today. Due to recent rain it was pretty wet. Because of that it was cart path only. If you play with it cart path only be sure to keep track of where your ball is off the tee. There are a lot of mounds between the cart path and fairways making it very hard to see where your ball i . The par 3 11th is a very cool hole with ano island green. Overall the course is outstanding and I can't wait to play it again.

I know it's early in the season but I've played other courses this spring like Thunderbird, Mohican, and even Forrest Hills, and they are in great shape in comparison. This course is in trouble. I'm guessing money problems have led to issues maintaining the course. Greens horrible, fairways, bunkers, etc, all terrible. This used to be an awesome course but it just keeps going down hill. Too bad. (I don't remember the exact date we played but it was a couple weeks ago.)

Weather was great, course was in good condition for December, people were friendly, definitely a course where you need to be strategic with your misses.

In the begining, Grey Hawk was excellent in every way a golf course could be. The lack of care has taken a toll. If this course falls by the wayside, like Blue Heron, I will miss it more. The layout is in the top 10 of northeast Ohio, in my opinion.

Grey Hawk was designed by the Von Hagge group. It was an amazing transformation from flat farmland to a challenging links style course. The bunkering was phenomenal, water comes into play on quite a few holes. Hole numbers 7&8 can be card wreckers. If I could routinely play them @ + 2, I would be a happy man. I've birdied 7 twice, but more often than naught, I've doubled it. Nonetheless, the layout is a nice variety of looks and terrain. Here's the bad news...since originally built as a private club, it went onto hard financial times. I know that there has been more than one owner and it's been a daily fee course for a number of years. That was actually a good thing until they basically stopped maintaining the extensive bunkers. Some have been allowed to grow over and become grass bunkers. The ones that are left are basically dirt with a sprinkling of sand that gets dragged by a four wheeler every now and then. The long bunker that runs along the right side of the 18th fairway and green has been allowed to grow wild weeds and crabgrass and is now a "waste bunker". The overall maintenance has deteriorated dramatically, and is really a shame because the layout is/was fantastic. Oh, and the greens that were once lightning and tricky to read, are now pretty pedestrian #maybe 8 to 8-1/2?) and bumpy.

Grey Hawk is a grea course lots of water and not one but two island greens one in the water and one in the sand. We drove over an hour to play this golf course and we have now done that twice. The dry weather this year was not friendly to this course,not much shade out there. The course uses water and sand to line fairways that do not have trees, it really makes for a great challenging round of golf. I love this course!!!!! We look forward to playing Grey Hawk again.

Played here a few times, once in the spring when conditions were a little rough around the edges. Some things still aren't great (most of the sand has not been maintained well enough to consider playable) - but overall the shape was decent.

The course provides a good test and the links style makes it nice to play in the fall when you don't have to search through leaves for a ball not the fairway.

As the other review mentioned, they did aerate the greens recently - which every course is currently doing - and I think that $30 still presents a good value with that in mind.

Played as a two some on a weekday and only had to play through one group (who was very nice about it). Range is nice as well and overall facilities are good. The only negative for me is the state of the sand.

The second time we have played this course. The fairways were green but the course had just been aerated the past week so the greens were rough. I thought the price they were charging should of been even lower since the greens were in such bad shape.
