Grey Hawk Golf Club
About
Grey Hawk Golf Club is a challenging but playable course that is a Cleveland area favorite. It brings resort-quality golf to a remote location in LaGrange that is seemingly in the middle of nowhere. The rolling landscape is the ideal terrain for links-style golf. The course demands accuracy with lightning fast greens surrounded by bunkers and be sure not to stray from the fairways or you'll almost definitely be left with an uneven lie. Unlike a typical links golf course, there are water hazards coming into play on several holes on this layout. The 11th hole features a tricky island green while the third hole has an equally challenging "island green" that is surrounded by sand. Grey Hawk Golf Club is a formidable but fair test with interesting and diverse hole designs.

Some of the most scenic holes I've seen!
The only thing missing was casual snacks towards the end of the day. Definitely not a deal breaker. Truly loved the course. Challenging but fair!
Too many divots........
Players need to repair divots on greens and in fairways. So many in both places it was annoying. Otherwise, course was in good shape !
Long road to mediocrity
Having been away for 3 years, I thought this course may bring a new perspective to this "Linksy" track. And it did. The course is nestled in a development, void of any truly beautiful scenery. No color! No beautiful vistas. The greens were a bit inconsistent. There were more than a few holes that were goofy. The #7 par 5(#1 handicap) doesn't leave you ANY room to error on your second shot. Not the way it's supposed to be done fellas. All tolled, a long drive with no beauty at the end.
Out of Money???
I was looking forward to playing Grey Hawk. Unfortunately, I left disappointed. The layout is very nice but the upkeep of the course is not so good. Bunkers are atrocious, some are being filled in??? Fairways are spotty. Looks like only tees and greens are being watered. Based on the condition of the course, it looks like management does not have the funds to properly maintain the course. I feel sorry for the residents and the designer; their vision for the community and course is not being properly cared for.
Great track, needs some help
Great layout and some challenging holes. For sure needs some help as far as the condition of the course. Front was in average shape with weeds growing in some bunkers. Sand was packed down and actually saw some shots bounce out of the middle of bunkers! Back was in average shape, same weeds in bunkers and many fairways had weeds and numerous bare spots. Finishing hole needs cleanup around the clubhouse! With a giant porch overlooking the 18th I would think that hole would be pristine!
Awesome Course
Great course, awesome condition. Took clients there and they loved it.
Rough afternoon
We made a tee time on golf now and called before we made it. Our tee time was 512pm and they said it would be WIDE open. We got there and we had to start off the back because their was some junior golf event going on earlier in the afternoon and they weren't done yet. So ok fine..first 3 holes smooth sailing until we catch up to about 3 foursomes who wouldn't let a two some play through. Luckily they were on their last side. So we get to number 1 and they let 3 foursomes of members out in front of us when we were making the turn..HORRIBLE..never again..BEWARE THEY LIE!
GReat course to play especially if you havent yet
There is no doubt that this is a top notch golf course whether public or private. It has a great clubhouse to boot. The track is difficult and makes you use all of your clubs. Rated it 4 of 5
Nice layout.
Terrific layout. The fairways and greens were in good shape. Our only complaint pertained to the sand bunkers, a few of which were far too thin.
Course detiorating fast
Sand traps are a mess, greens slow. Unfortunately this great lay out must be running out of money, again!
Grey Hawk
Area had a lot of rain the days leading up to our round, which lead to cart path only. Mowers were out in full force and overall the fairways were in great condition aside from a few casual water spots. Bunkers were wet and several in need of some work. As usual the links style and uneven lies were challenging, as was the breeze which seemed to always be in our face! If you are in the area and have not played this track, you are missing out. It does get very busy at times but you can still finish in a decent amount of time and is a super deal as a Hot Buy.
Loved it
A very challanging course. Didn't have one of my better days, but enjoyed it anyways. Can't wait to play it again.
Best layout in northern ohio
Great course! Very difficult. Every shot is demanding. Course is in pretty good shape. Clubhouse food is great.
nice comeback
Course conditions have improved dramatically from two or three years ago. Great tough track
Average
The fairways have recovered from the neglect of years pastr, but the greens and most of the bunkers are pretty bad. The greens need to have the ball marks fixed as there were quite a few on each green that made putting difficult. Walk up and looks like the moon. Several of the bunkers have weeds growing in them and no sand. The course layout has always been a favorite of mine, but the conditions do not warrant paying more than the $30 to play.
Terrific Day
First let me tell you how I play golf. I play for a 5 on every hole and I shot 94 from the blue tees. I played 18 w/my 23 year old son. It was a good day for golf and the course was in good shape. I read some reviews about the sand traps. I unfortunately had to play out of a few of them. They were typical of any public course in the greater Cleveland area HARD PACKED. It was a good experience and will play there again this summer. A great value booking tee time on Golf Now.
KG
Slow pace
I booked my tee time as a solo. They put me behind an outing. They should have paired me up with another group. I had to wait on every shot. It was excruciating. I left after 10 holes.
They need to water the fairways more often because there was alot of brown stops in the fairways
Well we had a little bit of a problem I booked through golfnow.com for a foursome at 21.00 ea for 18 holes w/cart and it was for 11:33 AM I called the course and said to them that we would be a little late and they said nobody by the name of Kneebusch is booked for 11:33 AM so I quickly called golfnow.com to tell them of the problem at 15 minutes on the phone golfnow.com found my confirmation and also called Grey Hawk for us when we all arrived by that time it was 12:05 PM it finally got straighten out and we then went over to the practice greens for about 35 minutes because the starter had us now teeing off at 12:45 PM We were behind 3 groups of 2 people per cart We finally got to tee off but it was 1:PM now each hole a some kind of different feature to it It actually felt like we were at TPC Sawgrass golf course There was a lot of bunkers sand traps that needed more sand in it and lots of water on both sides of the greens We played best ball on all 18 holes The pace all day long was very slow we were waiting anywhere between 25-30 minutes per hole The starter made a big mistake we he sent out 3 groups of two per cart. Then one of our electric carts died on the 9th hole we had to call for some help we ended up getting a new electric cart to play the back 9 All in all our foursome had a good time at Grey Hawk I will come back again but the owners need to find away to make the fairways more green then brown and clean up the greens also because they are to brown and a lot of bare marks on the green this course is now 2nd best to Sleep Hollow in Brecksville Ohio They need maintance to due a better job overall with the course it is beginning to fall apart once a nice course is now falling to the bottom of the list in course that I have played great valve for your money only if you use golfnow.com I wouldn't pay 65.00 ea for 18 holes w/cart better course out there for far less money then grey hawk again I like the course layout and I will come back again by using golfnow.com My group had fun enjoyed themselves and my son shot an 82 for 18 holes I barely beat him because I shot an 80 for 18 holes I shot 6 strokes worse then I shot on a regular basics around 74-75 for 18 holes the 7th hole by far is the toughest hole on this course all four of us got par. This course makes you think hard about your golf section I miss judged a couple of the holes but used a 6 hybird on the 11th hole the island green and put it 4 feet over the pin my son used a 3 hybird and hit it within one feet in front of the pin by far his best shot of the day It was an excellent day to play golf about 79 degrees outside and a lot of sunshine differently you had to wear your sunglasses because every hole you were looking into the sun A gave a 5 star rating because it is still a good course to play have maintance spend one year on fixing the fairway and the greens and this course would be the best course in Ohio right now Sleep Hollow is my number one course in Ohio Thanks Steve
It's not like it used to be.
I live about 2 hrs from this course. I used to love playing here. After yesterday's round I'll never go back. It took us 5 hrs and 12 minutes to complete a round on a Friday morning. There were no outings so this makes no sense. On every hole groups would just meet up with each other and talk for 10 minutes or so. Regardless of how many people were waiting behind them. The best part of the day was when the starter told the group in front of us to take your time. If you are in a hurry you shouldn't play. I do believe most golf courses Iv worked at say pace of play is the biggest issue. Anything over 4 hrs is ridiculous.
