Grey Hawk Golf Club
About
Grey Hawk Golf Club is a challenging but playable course that is a Cleveland area favorite. It brings resort-quality golf to a remote location in LaGrange that is seemingly in the middle of nowhere. The rolling landscape is the ideal terrain for links-style golf. The course demands accuracy with lightning fast greens surrounded by bunkers and be sure not to stray from the fairways or you'll almost definitely be left with an uneven lie. Unlike a typical links golf course, there are water hazards coming into play on several holes on this layout. The 11th hole features a tricky island green while the third hole has an equally challenging "island green" that is surrounded by sand. Grey Hawk Golf Club is a formidable but fair test with interesting and diverse hole designs.

Great course
This golfcourse is challenging with picturesque landscaping. I found the OB quite a few times. The course has a layout in which you must play it smart to keep the ball inbounds. You must avoid the tall grass, water hazards and some tight fairways. Hole number 11 is awesome. You must hit the ball over the water onto an island green similar to the hole at TPC Sawgrass. I believe its a great course to play at.
Comeback Course of 2013
Played this course late last year and it was toast, burnt, neglected - rumors of closing and sales were making rounds. All this made it hard for me to want to go back to a course i once really liked.
Some friends played the course, due to the great deals, and reported that is was staging a comeback.
Played there yesterday and loved it. The course isn't 100% by any means, but things are green again, the greens are not bad (fast and true), and people were out mowing and maintaining the entire time. (bunkers need sand)
We had a great time, ESPECIALLY FOR THE PRICE!! Layout is challenging, pace was fast, clubhouse is nice.
It's back and i hope it's here to stay...unlike any course on the west side.
Great layout
Course has a great layout. The greens could use some sprucing up. The sand traps need more sand.
A unique course for the area
This course offers a unique layout for this area. Many holes have the look and feel of a links style course. Rough was a little burned out when I played, but the course was in very nice shape overall. Greens were slick but rolled very true. Other than the tee shot on the no. 1 handicap, the course is pretty fair for most golfers.
Best condition I have seen in the past two yers.
This year I did not see burnt out farways and greens along with weed patch tee boxes. Hopefully they continue to maintain the course. I will try it again later this month to see if they are keeping up with proper caring and maintaining of the course. I quite going year before last when they let the course go down hill. A friend said he played it a few weeks ago and the course is coming back. Hoorah, it has always been a good layed out course - lot of risk reward shot making.
Awesome
Love this course. Very well maintained. Beautiful and fun. Course is amazing. Fun to play for all golfers. Staff great. Carts great. Will go again even though its an hour away
Challenging
Challenging and hilly. Some holes demanded careful shot planning. Overall it was a decent course.
Gone downhill!
This course used to be 1 of the top notch courses in the area. Not anymore. Needs attention, big time. Not to mention the Rangers on the course driving their carts in front of us while teeing off on several holes. Pace of play was good. We didn't get held up nor did we hold anyone up. Despite that we had the rangers telling us to pick up the pace several times... Nobody for 2 holes behind us. They ruined the enjoyment of golf. I will not return here.
This course has a very challenging layout.
Fairways and greens were in great shape. Well maintained. The greens were fast (8-9 on the meter)! Good value for the money.
Nice layout
Greens don't hold but roll true. Pace of play was over 5hrs. Some bunker need attention. It's not a course for people who have trouble keeping the ball in play, that might explain the slow play.
greens covered with ball marks
The course is a very well designed course that offers a challenge. Problem is that the greens look like the surface of the moon, ball marks everywhere... any putt from over 3 feet you just have to take a guess and hope. Pace of play on my front 9 (courses back 9) was a decent pace, plenty of waiting but you are going to encounter this anywhere playing as a single. My back 9 (courses front 9) the pace of play was terrible. Every tee I pulled up to the group in front of my was waiting. I paired up with the person behind me and we were still waiting on every shot for a decent amount of time. Either need to start sending a ranger out or teach the ranger how to do his job.
I will not be going back to this course, shame too because the design is very good.
Significant improvement in course conditions over 2012
I played Grey Hawk twice last year and there were significant areas where the grass on the fairways was dormant. Currently, there are issues with the 1st and 9th fairways, but overall conditions very good. The greens were firm and rolled true. The course layout is interesting with a variety of shots required.
Challenging layout
This is a great course. The layout is challenging and requires you to make risk reward decisions on many holes. My group really enjoyed the course and the greens are very interesting if you get in the wrong spots. I will definitely be back to play again.
Moderately challenging.
The course is in good condition. Staff is super friendly. They just need to move play along. I know weekends are busy times for courses, but a five hour round is a little frustrating.
play a couple times a yr.
great challenging layout.seem to be skipping some of the small details last couple yrs. the white sands that made for such impressive views seem to be all but gone.grass and weeds growing up in the large bunkers dont effect play but seem to take away from the beauty this corse once offered. even large bunker on 18 that is over looked by clubhouse and deck was only half manicured. didnt seem over crowed but play was still slow.
THIS COURSE IS A SHOTMAKERS COURSE WITH PLENTY OF SAND.
Enjoyed playing, however there were some rough spots in the fairways and the traps were in need of some work. Still loved the layout and will definitely play again, hopefully soon even with a drive of just over an hour to the course.
nice
Course is maintained very well for a public course. The clubhouse has nightly specials and a great Sunday brunch. With the discounts on Golfnow its worth the money. With no discount its a little over priced
Great layout and some really beautiful holes.
Yes some bunkers can use some more sand but stay out of them and your are good. Green were rolling perfect and fairways are great right now. Rain has helped this course and it is a lot of fun to play.
Overall, very nice.
Overall very nice, but sand bunkers needed more sand.
great course just a long drive for me
I played the course with a couple of members so I received all the tips that I needed to know for every hole. From the whites I could have left the driver at home. Since bunkers seem to be a big part of grey hawk I would suggest putting some fresh sand in them, hitting out of the bunkers was like hitting off a sidewalk. Also some of the fairways were burnt up from dryness but the greens were in great shape nice and fast.
