Grey Hawk Golf Club
About
Grey Hawk Golf Club is a challenging but playable course that is a Cleveland area favorite. It brings resort-quality golf to a remote location in LaGrange that is seemingly in the middle of nowhere. The rolling landscape is the ideal terrain for links-style golf. The course demands accuracy with lightning fast greens surrounded by bunkers and be sure not to stray from the fairways or you'll almost definitely be left with an uneven lie. Unlike a typical links golf course, there are water hazards coming into play on several holes on this layout. The 11th hole features a tricky island green while the third hole has an equally challenging "island green" that is surrounded by sand. Grey Hawk Golf Club is a formidable but fair test with interesting and diverse hole designs.

Great beautiful course
I love to play at Gray Hawk. The scenery is so pretty. Challenging but lots of fun. Always take the opportunity to play there, great deals, good food, pristine condition. One of my top choices and I've played many courses not just in Ohio but Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head, several Florida cities too.
nice and challenging links style
nice links style course featuring challenging holes for a fair test of your skills. friendly staff. you have to stay for dinner at the course. great food.
long, modern, and difficult
I played the back nine first alone and was encouraged to take my time and play multiple balls by the starter, because there was foursomes that had just gone off the front. Needless to say, I played fast on the first nine (backside). I joined up with another single going off the front and immediately ran into a slow foursome. This went much slower, but still got the whole round in around 4 and a half (I would have been upset if I had to stay behind that group the whole time).
The course is a great course, not only to play, but to look at as well. It was very challenging and fun. Some holes are ridiculously difficult and require nerves to hit good shots. I will play again for sure.
Overall a very good experience
Nice course with interesting design and layout.
Friendly staff and good value for the money.
Pace of play was excellent
Course maintainence in the bunkers ( many hardpan areas) needs some attention.

Great value for the cost
This course looks and plays like a country club. The fairways are smooth, the greens are true and the layout is challenging. It's definitely the nicest course in Lorain County (including Legacy). Can't wait to play it again only this time from the white tees!
Awesome track!
This place is a step above average courses. The layout is unique as well. A links style course with big, lightning fast, undulating greens. Plenty of water definitely keeps you thinking throughout the day. Be prepared to lose some golf balls if you're not striking it well. An island green, and a green entirely surrounded by sand, will be two of the memorable holes, among many others. Great clubhouse/restaurant also tie together the experience.
Hidden Gem!
Grey Hawk is a great course and when you can get a good price here a super value. It's very challenging with water on a lot of the holes and enough sand to last a lifetime. Speaking of sand, there are both sand traps and sandy areas. Depending on which you are in they will be different to hit out of. Just be aware that some of the sandy areas, you can ground your club and it will be packed underneath. I flew a couple of shots because of that. Overall, it was a great course at a great price and I will be going back for sure.
Super nice course!
I've always heard Grey Hawk was a nice course to play, but expensive. So when I found this course on here I was pretty pumped. The Greens were easily the fastest greens I've ever played. This course is very long, hilly, and challenging. TONS of sand! My buddy who has only been golfing about two years went with me and he struggled big time with the length and the sand traps. This course is beautiful, every hole is very unique. The only drawback I could think of was how spaced out some holes were. I had to cross the road maybe 6-7 times going between holes. Also there are several holes that are very close to houses and peoples back yard. Those draw backs are very minor and wouldn't keep me from recommending this to everyone.
Great course
This golfcourse is challenging with picturesque landscaping. I found the OB quite a few times. The course has a layout in which you must play it smart to keep the ball inbounds. You must avoid the tall grass, water hazards and some tight fairways. Hole number 11 is awesome. You must hit the ball over the water onto an island green similar to the hole at TPC Sawgrass. I believe its a great course to play at.
Comeback Course of 2013
Played this course late last year and it was toast, burnt, neglected - rumors of closing and sales were making rounds. All this made it hard for me to want to go back to a course i once really liked.
Some friends played the course, due to the great deals, and reported that is was staging a comeback.
Played there yesterday and loved it. The course isn't 100% by any means, but things are green again, the greens are not bad (fast and true), and people were out mowing and maintaining the entire time. (bunkers need sand)
We had a great time, ESPECIALLY FOR THE PRICE!! Layout is challenging, pace was fast, clubhouse is nice.
It's back and i hope it's here to stay...unlike any course on the west side.
Great layout
Course has a great layout. The greens could use some sprucing up. The sand traps need more sand.
A unique course for the area
This course offers a unique layout for this area. Many holes have the look and feel of a links style course. Rough was a little burned out when I played, but the course was in very nice shape overall. Greens were slick but rolled very true. Other than the tee shot on the no. 1 handicap, the course is pretty fair for most golfers.
Best condition I have seen in the past two yers.
This year I did not see burnt out farways and greens along with weed patch tee boxes. Hopefully they continue to maintain the course. I will try it again later this month to see if they are keeping up with proper caring and maintaining of the course. I quite going year before last when they let the course go down hill. A friend said he played it a few weeks ago and the course is coming back. Hoorah, it has always been a good layed out course - lot of risk reward shot making.
Awesome
Love this course. Very well maintained. Beautiful and fun. Course is amazing. Fun to play for all golfers. Staff great. Carts great. Will go again even though its an hour away
Challenging
Challenging and hilly. Some holes demanded careful shot planning. Overall it was a decent course.
Gone downhill!
This course used to be 1 of the top notch courses in the area. Not anymore. Needs attention, big time. Not to mention the Rangers on the course driving their carts in front of us while teeing off on several holes. Pace of play was good. We didn't get held up nor did we hold anyone up. Despite that we had the rangers telling us to pick up the pace several times... Nobody for 2 holes behind us. They ruined the enjoyment of golf. I will not return here.
This course has a very challenging layout.
Fairways and greens were in great shape. Well maintained. The greens were fast (8-9 on the meter)! Good value for the money.
Nice layout
Greens don't hold but roll true. Pace of play was over 5hrs. Some bunker need attention. It's not a course for people who have trouble keeping the ball in play, that might explain the slow play.
greens covered with ball marks
The course is a very well designed course that offers a challenge. Problem is that the greens look like the surface of the moon, ball marks everywhere... any putt from over 3 feet you just have to take a guess and hope. Pace of play on my front 9 (courses back 9) was a decent pace, plenty of waiting but you are going to encounter this anywhere playing as a single. My back 9 (courses front 9) the pace of play was terrible. Every tee I pulled up to the group in front of my was waiting. I paired up with the person behind me and we were still waiting on every shot for a decent amount of time. Either need to start sending a ranger out or teach the ranger how to do his job.
I will not be going back to this course, shame too because the design is very good.
Significant improvement in course conditions over 2012
I played Grey Hawk twice last year and there were significant areas where the grass on the fairways was dormant. Currently, there are issues with the 1st and 9th fairways, but overall conditions very good. The greens were firm and rolled true. The course layout is interesting with a variety of shots required.
