Mercer Oaks Golf Course - West Course

Nice course layout, challenging without being overly difficult.

I will be back.

I have always played an enjoyable round at Mercer Oaks West. Well designed and maintained. Also a good course to walk when the heat index is not 110.

Mercer West is a nice course with a fair layout. The pace of paly was great through the front 9 (1hr 20 minutes). On the back I did catch up to a couple of groups and it took a little over 2hrs.

When checking in the gentleman at the desk was less than helpful. I showed up 1 hour early and he was reluctant to check me in. They appear to have a strict rule (unwritten) about letting anyone who purchases a tee time through Golfnow getting out early (prior to the time purchased).

I have no issue with the policy, but it does not mean I should be treated differently than anyone else playing the course. It left a bad impression.

Got a great deal on golf now course has good layout with a good variety of holes course was in good shape except for the tee boxes which were small and chewed up overall very good

The entire Golf Course was awesome., from the Practice Putting Green to the Driving Range, just outstanding. There was a Foursome in front of us that was walking so play for us was slowed down considerably. It took almost 5 hours to get 18 in.

During play we came across 3 Wild Turkey, not counting myself, and several deer with their young. Had a GREAT day!

Challenging course in great shape and scenic. Water and brush hazards and doglegs that prevent use of driver.

Have played here many times, and found it enjoyable and challenging. Staff was good, pace was good. One of the best local muni courses.

A good, challenging and interesting layout.

Not easy, but I thought the 131 slope for the White tees (6,150 yards) was overstated. Mid-high 120s seems more reasonable.

Course was in good shape. Greens’ speed was medium.

Saw lots of deer and a few groundhogs. Nice view of the sizable Lake Mercer on the 17th.

I’d give it 4 stars out of five.

However, I probably wouldn’t play again unless I got a deal well-less than my $40.49 Hot Deal.

Used to play often at Mercer Oaks when I lived in NJ. Made a return visit this past Sunday to Mercer West. The facility has not changed over the years and is still well kept and enjoyable from all aspects. The fairways and tees were in good shape. The greens were a bit spongy and a little slow but overall in good shape.

The course is all you want if you are a top player and the back tees give you a slope of 137 and stretches to over 7000 yds. The 17th hole which borders the lake is a lovely par 4 and presents a challenging tee shot. The 9th hole with the approach over water is a great strategic hole. The par 5 holes of 7 and 15 are great driving holes that favor a draw if you are a righty. There is tons of wildlife in the forest that the course is built from. We saw a bunch of deer and 2 wild turkeys crossing the fairway during our round. The bar/grill in the clubhouse is excellent and a great place to grab a good hot dog and cold beer.

Hole 9 is the best - gotta hit it 200 then over the water onto the circle.

Can't wait to play this course again. The west is nicer than the east

Whether you play the East or West course which I have done many times, you will not be disappointed! Great layout, friendly staff, and always in good condition. I play here often and don't mind paying the out of county rate -weekday or weekend.

One of the best public courses in NJ. Many interesting & diverse holes. Off the fairway can be tough as the grass is deep. Course is playable for all levels. One of my favorite courses & I gladly drive 1 hour from north Jersey to play here.

Paid $50 to play. I wouldn't have paid $20 to play. Both courses are usually in good shape so I didn't mind the 50 dollars but not this time

Great course. Not too much you've but still a decent challenge.

Web site stated the course would not be aerated. Incorrect information and never indicated otherwise. I'm surprised by the overall rating for this course. I understand it's early spring but with all the recent rain, if a course doesn't look good now it never will. I would not recommend this course.

The course was in good shape for early in the season. Greens were slow and a little bumpy, but that is to be expected this time of year. The course becomes more difficult throughout the year as the rough and fescue grow making accurate tee shots much more important. An awesome public course that is playable, but will challenge even the best amateurs.

Course was in great shape considering it's the middle of January! Greens a bit bumpy, but hey, it's golf in January so no comaints. Just had to hit them firm to hold the line. The kitchen was closed by the time I was done my round, but the cook agreed to make me a chicken wrap anyway. Made the experience all that more enjoyable. Definitely would recommend to anyone in the area. I drive an hr to get here, so also recommend this track to anyone looking for a great round. Both courses are fun and challenging
