course good but in need of a rest
layout is always interesting even though overall course length is below average. there are very long par 4s and 5s, course is tired after a whole summer of use. bare spots around in places. overall worth the money.
40 dollars for a golf cart is ridiculous I asked how much to ride alone it’s 21 dollars so we were going to each take a cart said we couldn’t not enough carts no other course charge s each golfer 20 to ride together
The staff has always been nice but...
...yesterday took the cake. A very bad storm was coming. As soon as my party walked up to the entrance, we were greeted by the nicest gentleman, my apologies for forgetting his name, who let us know that rain was immanent and let us know our options for cancelling or playing on but once we tee off, 9-10 holes would probably be all we would get through. So I checked inside the clubhouse with Jason and the customer service he provided was fantastic. He said rain wouldn’t be coming til a little later and showed me the progression of the storm on his phone but knew that I wanted to change the tee time since playing 18 wasn’t realistic. I couldn’t get a refund thru Golf Now so Jason, juggling multiple other things, changed my tee time to a later date with no complaints or attitude. A very pleasant experience indeed. My party thanks both gentlemen for their assistance. See you in 2 weeks!
Greens were a good condition but
They prepared motor cart with extra fee per person.
I used to book at Golf Now with reasonable fee included golf motor cart. Now they were charged separate fare. I’d better go to other courses if I paid more than $50 with a cart at twilight time.
Greens were maintained very well, but some fairways were drying grass and naked dirt ground almost all over the fairway.
I know this special season they try to collect more coins by poor golfers. If you have a enough time, find other compatible golf courses on Golf Now. You will find out much more better courses with similar amount of fee.
Good and almost great
Douglaston is a great layout for someone who wants to work on their game or someone who isn’t a monster off the tee. Some very nice holes, but rarely (if ever) testing you with length.
Notorious for slow rounds on the weekends; so accept this if you are playing Fri-Sun and be aware going in. Weekdays play is faster. Having no walk ups because of Covid did speed it up a touch vs. past weekend rounds, but still waited a lot.
Overall course is actually in great shape, but 2-4 tee boxes that get limited sun are in abysmal shape, which makes it impossible to say the conditions are above average. Majority of course is in above average to excellent shape, with the few bad tee boxes crushing the overall rating.
I would recommend tho, it’s a fun layout and round in a convenient location for most NYC residents
Pace: normal for NYC
Course condition: a little beat up, greens are in okay shape, some tee boxes are crap. But overall very playable
Course layout: lots of blind shots, had the group behind me hit up on me several times. Not there fault but a little annoying. The course overall is to hilly for my liking.
Overall: would go back now that I know what I am getting into with the blind shots.
