Great Rock Golf Club
About
Opened in 2001, Great Rock Golf Club is one of the newer golf clubs in Long Island but it feels much older thanks to its scenic landscape of rolling green hills covered with mature forests. The mountainous landscape provides plenty of elevation changes that make it difficult to find a flat lie. At 6,254 yards, the course is short but it is still a challenging round with narrow, tree-lined fairways that demand accuracy. There is hardly any water on the golf course but with strategically placed bunkers, sidehill lies, and towering trees to contend with, golfers will hardly notice the absence of water hazards. Great Rock's signature hole is the challenging 10th. This par-4 beast is a double uphill climb with a seemingly flat green, but if you read it that way, you're in for some trouble.

Awful Day at Great Rock
Had a time to play at 11 AM yesterday and after four and a half hours I played 11 holes at which point I walked off and was -2 for the day. Asked the ranger if he could speed up the group in front of us as they were two holes out of position and was replied to with anger and hostility. Greens were not consistent from one to another and the fairways were spotty in a lot of spots. Overall the worst golf experience that I have had on Long Island and there is no shot I will ever book a time here again. No wonder you can get a membership for $1,100 a year.
Great corse, difficult greens
Great course, and great value. Tough greens. Somewhat slow pace
very good
played last saturday afternoon, and were able to finish in 4 & 1/2 hours playing in blue tee. Good condition, and very fast green. Pin locations were very difficult. Money and time well worth.
Extremely fast green.
The course condition is very well maintain. People are very friendly.
Good deaL FOR THE $$$$
For the twilight rate of $29 after 3pm it was a good deal. The course is a hilly terrain that could use some water in the fairways as there were some bald spots here and there. The greens were very hard and the ball did not hold at all. Distances from the fairway markers were very accurate. I also used my "skydroid" app on my phone to help with distances and they were also quite accurate. (It's a free app for android users). The carts are gas so you hear that noise from time to time in your back swing, but if you are tuned in, it should not bother you. It was a good value for the money since it was after 3pm and only $29 it was the cheapest place to play locally.
GolfNow comes thru again.
Great Rock is a great, challenging course, even better at a super low golfnow price.
I love the course, but it is not maintained as it was in the past.
Several years ago Great Rock was probably the best maintained course on Long Island. It is now showing signs of neglect, from tee box to green it appears that maintenance is not a priority. It's a shame because it's a beautiful course.
great alround course
a must play, amazing golf course. a course you have to think about every shot
Great course in Long Island.
Great Rock Golf course in Wading River, Long Island find this course challenging, relatively well-maintained and
suited for all skill levels.
LOVE THE UPS AND DOWNS, MOST COURSE ON THE ISLAND ARE FLAT.
GREENS WERE VERY GOOD AND NOT AS HARD AS IN THE PAST. I'VE ALWAYS LIKE THE COURSE LAYOUT AND LIKE PLAY HERE.
Fairways burned out
I usually have nothing but goods things to say about GR but obviously they haven't kept up with the watering. Yes it's been awfully hot and dry of late but the place is roasted well done and crispy. We won't be back until we hear about improvement to the conditions. Otherwise, the layout is terrific, some very difficult greens. You will use every club at this shotmakers course.
Challenging greens
I have played Great Rock many many times and am always amazed at the trickiness and speed of its greens. Not a very long course, but danger all over for any wayward tee shot. Accuracy off the tee a must to score well. A must play course if you are in the area.
Great Rock a Good Value for your Money
The course is challenging because of the slopes in the fairways. This requires placing your shots in the correct part of the fairway or your ball will roll off into the rough or worse. The greens need some work. They are not in prime condition. The 19th hole has plenty of cold beverage choices and good food.
the course is unique on Long Island w/ elevation changes
A nice course, not long but with hills and doglegs you must be able to shape some shots. will play again
Beautiful course
Had a great day with our foursome- course is beautiful and interesting to play- the scenery is refreshingly artistic, and keeps your interest, aside from your focus on the game :)
Beautiful course. Tough greens
We had a great time at Great Rock. The staff were helpful and friendly from arrival to the 18 hole. Beautiful course with challenging greens. We will be back soon.
Beautiful Course
This was our 2nd time there. Enjoyed it as much as the first time there! Course is great as long as you stay on the fairways !
Its like playing at a private club.
The clubhouse, bar, locker rooms, pro-shop all first class!
Course was beautiful with surprising elevation changes.
A little slow pace of play...
I will be back!
