Great Rock Golf Club
About
Opened in 2001, Great Rock Golf Club is one of the newer golf clubs in Long Island but it feels much older thanks to its scenic landscape of rolling green hills covered with mature forests. The mountainous landscape provides plenty of elevation changes that make it difficult to find a flat lie. At 6,254 yards, the course is short but it is still a challenging round with narrow, tree-lined fairways that demand accuracy. There is hardly any water on the golf course but with strategically placed bunkers, sidehill lies, and towering trees to contend with, golfers will hardly notice the absence of water hazards. Great Rock's signature hole is the challenging 10th. This par-4 beast is a double uphill climb with a seemingly flat green, but if you read it that way, you're in for some trouble.

Nice Topography
Challenging course with many different hole configurations and elevations.
Enjoyable Day!
Greens were in good shape for early in the season. Fairways had some bare spots.
challenge your skill!!
i played Great Rock on memorial day 5/27/13
the course was in great condition.
Green was very tough.
all holes enjoyable holes,
Great course, must be straight off the tee's to score well
In great shape
Great Rock looking and playing great. Greens as always are fast and tough to read sometimes. Course management / club selection are key here.
The golf cource has good holes, and fast GREENS!!
I enjoy the golf cource short but very, very triki.
Very difficult course with very fast and undulating greens.
I love this course and have played it often...it is the most difficult of the many courses I play on Long Island and don't believe the relatively low slope rating of 127...should be at least 132 or higher. Greens are fast and very tough with lots of undulations and just plain inclined to ridiculously tough degrees on some holes...it is a lovely course and I would highly recommend it for golfers with handicaps from 0-17...above that, it's probably more torture than fun!
Well kept course
Staff was great, course in great shape, Course well marked at sprinkler heads and stakes, hardly had to use gps.
just good view...
this course is traditional local course..very short..slow green..
some mixing ways between the holes. this course should be good just for beginner.
Great Rock/ Greatly Disappointed
This is a course that is trying very hard to become
A goodplace to play . The layout is tough but fair.
The price to play here has increased substantially over
The last two years. As long as the greens remain shabby
And badly maintained, the price to play here cannot be
justified. Too bad. I'll will not return till this condition is addressed.
Wouldn't hesitate to play often
I've played Great Rock twice and I need to play it more often. It's quickly becoming one of my favorites on Long Island. From the very friendly staff to the incredible clubhouse to the challenging layout with lots of elevation changes, it's worth every penny.
Beautiful course with elevations, wide fairways, well-kept greens.
The staff here is courteous and friendly. I went out on a Thursday afternoon and got a great deal. No one had gone out for an hour before me so I had not wait anywhere and was able to play at a nice pace. I love the combination of 17 and 18 with a big dog leg left followed by an elevated T box hitting down a long, slight left fairway with water in the middle. Fun course!
Interesting holes
The course itself is laid out nicely.Biggest issue was the greens. They appeared to have Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. They were patchy and uneven.Halfway house was closed when we got there at 4:00 PM.
Course is fun to play
The season is early, course and greens need work, the course was better maintained under former supr.
Has the feel of a private club
Has the feel of a private club. Friendly staff, well maintained.
great course for the price. tough greens but firm
challenging hilly fairways. well maintained. good pace to play. Very little delays at each hole. Greens were recently aerated but did not effect the read or speed.
Very nice track
Great Offer for Great Rock. Early in the year, the greens were bumpy, but I'm sure they will be back as the weather improves.
1st Class - as usual...
too early in the season to comment on conditions, but staff was 1st class, as is the course itself.
great features
fast pace play. would recommend this course to all my friends.
This course has fantastic scenary.
This is the second time we have played Great Rock. Very scenic views with boulders, hills and water. We had a great day and would highly recommend this course.
