Great Rock Golf Club
About
Opened in 2001, Great Rock Golf Club is one of the newer golf clubs in Long Island but it feels much older thanks to its scenic landscape of rolling green hills covered with mature forests. The mountainous landscape provides plenty of elevation changes that make it difficult to find a flat lie. At 6,254 yards, the course is short but it is still a challenging round with narrow, tree-lined fairways that demand accuracy. There is hardly any water on the golf course but with strategically placed bunkers, sidehill lies, and towering trees to contend with, golfers will hardly notice the absence of water hazards. Great Rock's signature hole is the challenging 10th. This par-4 beast is a double uphill climb with a seemingly flat green, but if you read it that way, you're in for some trouble.

mirrors bethpage Black
Great Rock has All the characteristics of Bethpage
black. Dramatic height/ elevation changes, sharp doglegs left and right, spectacular vistas and undulating greens. What a test!
course was in great condition for early Dec.
the course was in great shape, the staff were very helpful.
they were doing maintenance on the course but it only effected the 11th hole, temp. green.
The elevation changes are impressive
Tee shots require accuracy. Tight fairways. A lot of elevated greens that are Postage stamp in size. They are very fast. Go play this course you will not be disappointed. Played as a single, first person out and played in 2 1/2 hrs.
this course is challenging
this course is a challenging course. It has greens that are elevated and has lots of hills. The course is a beautuful course thats is kept in great condition.
great condition
For a november tee time in ny this course was in great condition. Semi tough layout. Short par fours backed up with long par fours. Greens were in great condition. One of the best opening and finishing holes of anywhere ive ever played
Gorgeous course, fantastic staff, great restaurant
The course is beautiful. Definitely the nicest one I've played on Long Island (I've never played a private course yet). The topography is pretty crazy and it adds to the great landscapes here. Greens were crazy fast and challenging. Even after Hurricane Sandy and a Nor'easter it was in superb shape. The staff couldn't be any friendlier and the service continued in the restaurant. Through Golfnow the greens fees came to be $33 per person, then we spend $30 per man in the restaurant. We left fat and happy. Can't wait to go back. Worth the drive.
Love the variety of elevations in the design of this GC
This course has a nice mix of golf holes, from a very short par 3 to a very long par 4. Overall, the course is not extremely long from the white tees, however; there is trouble lurking everywhere. As this track is heavily wooded, well placed tee shots are a must.
The negative would be that the greens don,t hold well and they can be difficult to read.
A fun course to play that will test your golf skills.
Well maintained facility and super friendly staff making a great experience.
First time on the course, Greeted by a super friendly staff at the Pro shop. The fairways was well maintained, and the greens were also very well maintained. This is especially impressive especially after the super storm Hurricane Sandy! Will definitely recommend this facility to my golf buddies. Great job.
Fun course to play. Shot placement is necessary to score well.
Enjoyable course to play. Shot placement is necessary to score well. Fast greens. Need to play the course several times to play it well. Great views from several holes. Good food at the restaurant.
Beautiful layout with lots of character
Beautiful course with challenging holes, not to hard, enough room for tee shots but demanding of shot placement. Super fast greens with surprises, very nice clean bunkers. Up and down shots required with not to many run up shot available. Grounds facilities as well as staff are the best available. Bring your "A" game. Skills required.
Great conditions, fast greens and nice course layout
This is a great course, especially for the price. Great Rock is a very well maintained golf course with fast greens that have some tough breaks. Plenty of elevated tee boxes with lots of "dog leg lefts", perfect for those leftys out there who happen to have a bit of a "slice" ball. There aren't many water hazards but there are plenty of strategically placed sand traps.
The staff is friendly and polite, especially the starter. As for the bar area, it seems to attract a much much older crowd but you can't beat 2 for 1 tap beers after a round of golf.
I've played here for the past two weeks in a row and I certainly plan on making a return visit soon.
Challenging layout
Rates tend to drop this time of year as does everyone elses, would not play it during the summer when rates are high, just don't think it is worth the money with all the other courses on the east end charging less and in just as good shape if not better.
Excellent Course
Easy to Navigate, Well Manicured and when they say Elevated Tee Boxes, They Are not Kidding....
The perfect deal !
This is a great deal for this golf course . I saved over $35 per person and on a Sunday no less. Golf Now is just great !!!
This course has a lot of character.
Great Rock is moderate in length and can be enjoyed by golfers of varied skill levels. Most fairways are narrow which places a premium on accuracy off the tee. Each golf hole offers its own challenges and this enhances interest when playing this course. Excercising course management strategies and keeping the ball in play, are priorties in negotiating this course. Great Rock is a beautiful and hilly course nestled in the woods, with most of its fairways lined with majestic trees. If you haven't played it yet, put it on your golf bucket list. You will not be disappointed!
Challenging, but short. Not worth the investment
Great Rock is not in as great a shape as it was about 3 years ago. Some distressed putting greens and bunkers look like they need manicuring. It isnt very long off the tee, but accuracy is a must. This course is a good deal if you can get a "hot deal", but honestly, for the same regular price you could play other courses like Hamlet Willow Creek or Long Island National.
This course has one of the nicer layouts for Long Island.
Nice layout, hilly terrain with scenic holes. Driving range could use an upgrade.
A Mountain course on Long Island
You wouldn't know you were on a Long Island course. It's built on the rolling hills of the north shore with lots of character. Course knowledge is very helpfull. I've been playing Great Rock for 5 years and it's always fun. The greens are nice and quick. This course will challange your game.
