Great Rock Golf Club
About
Opened in 2001, Great Rock Golf Club is one of the newer golf clubs in Long Island but it feels much older thanks to its scenic landscape of rolling green hills covered with mature forests. The mountainous landscape provides plenty of elevation changes that make it difficult to find a flat lie. At 6,254 yards, the course is short but it is still a challenging round with narrow, tree-lined fairways that demand accuracy. There is hardly any water on the golf course but with strategically placed bunkers, sidehill lies, and towering trees to contend with, golfers will hardly notice the absence of water hazards. Great Rock's signature hole is the challenging 10th. This par-4 beast is a double uphill climb with a seemingly flat green, but if you read it that way, you're in for some trouble.

Beautiful East End Gem
My first time here and I'll definitely be back. We teed off around 11am and breezed right through the round. They have green tees available (in between red and white) which is great for a golfer like me who usually shoots around 100. Course was in excellent condition and I would definitely recommend it!
Great Rock golf
While the course layout is great the tee boxes should be mowed ahd the grass around the green is rather too high,
Tough course. Great value for the money, friendly staff, narrow fairways made it hard to keep tee shots in play. Greens were in great shape.
wtf
This is a great course. Unfortunately the day we played the rough was 8" deep which made a fair golf course almost unplayable. It took 5 hours because you couldn't find your ball unless you were in fairway or on rhe green. If I had known this I would not have chose this course even though I like it.
Beautiful but tough
Second time playing here. My first time playing, it was not my day, and i had a miserable time. I need to come back and try again. Playing much better my second time around, the course was still a significant challenge. Toughest part by far were the greens. I had more than a handful of chips land on one end of the green and roll right through to the other wide off the green. I also had a real tough time putting, unable to read the speed - which of corse is on me.
What stood out the most is how rude the starter was (both times) to non-members. First time i can simply remember the starter being very shot and snotty. This time around I was scoffed at for showing up 20 minutes before my tee time.
Always a great experience
This is a great course. It's not an easy layout but great conditions and fast greens. I would have given five stars for pace of play but it was my group that was slowing everyone down. The three people I was playing with, while better than me, took too long to line-up every shot much less every putt. We had no one ahead of us that I could see. I let another group go ahead of us which didn't make these three very happy. Three holes later, we had another group waiting behind us. I've played this course in three and a half hours. This time it took five and I felt for everyone behind us.
Don't waste your money! Course is on bad shape
Where do I begin? As I have a long history with Great Rock... I do not know if they are closing or what but...the overall look of course is horrendous. Almost if the grounds crew gave up, got fired or forgot how to mow the grass. The pro shop is empty, and they claimed they were changing clothing sponsors. Looks like they are close to being shut down or bought out. I would spend another dime to play there unless drastic changes are made.
-Concerned local golfer.
Great Layout, Perfect 19th hole
Great Rock has a great layout and many challenging holes, yet at the same time it is fair. Some holes are narrow and demand straight shots. The greens were in fine condition. Best of all is the finish... a very nice clubhouse where they have a nice locker room and super restaurant, with the option of outdoor drinks/dining. Worth the trip!
great day
tuff course in very good shape staff was very helpfull, They ntfd ranger of my handicap to allow me closer to greens .
GRGC
Great Rock Golf Club has improved. The fairways were in tip top shape. Greens were fast and reading true speed. The rough needs some tlc some bear spots. The sand traps need some work. Grass growing in there and need to be lifted. It was kind of hard to find your ball in the rough due to the grass being high. Same with the fringe. But the staff gets the two thumbs up! For great service.
Great elevation changes, tricky greens, awesome amenities
Traveling so booked solo on line and got paired up with a couple of local boys half my age, doubling the challenge. I call it a hidden gem compared to the public courses I have been playing in the area. Quick warm-up prepared me for the opening water hole, hitting down on hole two awakened other skills and so it went on.
After 18 , the private club feel continued with the full service restaurant and bar. Pro shop, old guy on the range, starter, grounds guys, restaurant and bar, all staff gets a thumbs up.
I will play here every chance I get !!!
Disappointed
It's a shame ! Great layout great staff and clubhouse but just can't get past the greens. Absolutely horrible! They must be diseased. Bumpy and fast does not make a fun experience for the serious golfer. Along with myself many friends feel the same way. We won't be back until the greens get some serious work done. It's unfortunate because I really like the course. If they don't invest some serious money to get the greens in excellent shape I'm afraid the course won't survive.
Great Rock disappointment
The greens were invaded shape. The rough was way too high. The course was not well maintained. We like the course, if it is treated properly.
