Great Rock Golf Club
About
Opened in 2001, Great Rock Golf Club is one of the newer golf clubs in Long Island but it feels much older thanks to its scenic landscape of rolling green hills covered with mature forests. The mountainous landscape provides plenty of elevation changes that make it difficult to find a flat lie. At 6,254 yards, the course is short but it is still a challenging round with narrow, tree-lined fairways that demand accuracy. There is hardly any water on the golf course but with strategically placed bunkers, sidehill lies, and towering trees to contend with, golfers will hardly notice the absence of water hazards. Great Rock's signature hole is the challenging 10th. This par-4 beast is a double uphill climb with a seemingly flat green, but if you read it that way, you're in for some trouble.

Nice course
The course was in good condition. The bar has good food and cold beer for after the round. Very nice staff.
SADLY HAS TURNED INTO A COW PATURE
course could be beautiful if not left to nature to fill in the grass that dies off!!!!!!!!!
Played here several times years ago and it's sad what has happened to this nice layout.
Sorry to hear you did not have the best experience with the conditions. We are working hard to resolve these issues. Thank you for leaving your review, it is important us.
Poor shape
The course was in really poor condition. The tea boxes were a mess, the fairways were inconsistent, the rough was way too long and inconsistent. The sand traps needed a lot of work. I would not play there again this year.
We appreciate your feedback and sorry to hear that the conditions may not have been up to par. We have informed our staff and crews on the matter and are working hard to rectify the situation and make this the best Great Rock possible for your next round. Come back and see us again we look forward to your visit!
Bad condition
Haven't played there in year. Place was being redone. The fairways were terrible, weeds crab grass etc. greens where bad. . The new owner put all the money into bar and restaurant, not the coarse. It's a golf coarse not a restaurant. Very disappointed

Buh Bye Great Rock....
Played Labor Day and could not believe the condition of the course. Tees and fairways full of crabgrass, and the greens were a disaster between fungus and a recent aeration which we weren't aware of until we got to the first green. I could deal with the aeration is the rest of it resembled some sort of golf course. Seem to remember this place almost went south last year, and I thought a group came in to save it. Apparently that was not the case and Great Rock is on life support. Sorry to see it go. Please don't waste your money on this course....it's the definition of a dog track.

VERY disappointed.
My husband and I love this course, it's one of the more interesting layouts on Long Island. Lots of changes in elevation and beautiful scenery. Friendly and helpful staff. It's definetly worth the trip. THAT Being said. We were so very disappointed today. The course was in absolutely terrible condition from tee to green. ..every hole. The crabgrass has taken over. We fear it's going to go under unless a ton of time and money is spent to bring it back. Would hate to lose this gem of a course...especially since so much time and money was spent on a new restaurant.
We appreciate your feedback and thank you for noting the layout and the scenery here at Great Rock. We are in the midst of improving our conditions, sorry to hear you did not have the best experience. We are working hard to revive the conditions here at Great Rock.
Overall service is good
The course itself needs to be manicured. The overall service and good is good.
Thank you for playing at Great Rock we're glad you enjoyed the service and we are working hard to revive the conditions here, we hope to see you again!
Poor condition
The fairways were spotty mix in with crab grass. The putting green were just plugged and covered with sand.grass that should have been cut wasn't . Sand bunker layout was very good meaning club selecting and placing you shot come into play often. I will try this course next spring in hopes of better conditions
Thanks for coming out to Great Rock, can't wait to see you again next spring!
Great course but...
It's not well taken care of. Weeds all over the place. It is challenging (blind shots, elevated tees and greens). If they cleaned this place up, it would be a really, really nice club.
Thank you for leaving your review we look forward to seeing you again. Come back and see us soon!
This course requires shot making skills.
The course is in such poor shape that good shots don,t stay on the fairway do to lack of grass. Crabgrass does not count !!!
This course needs a lot of renovation to get back to what it use to be.
We appreciate the feedback, we are working hard to get the course back into great conditions. We hope to see you again soon!
Save your money
The greens were just aerated so I will leave out any sort of review of the greens themselves. The rest of the course was a total mess. The fairways were spotted throughout the course. The rough was a combination of crabgrass and weeds varying in length from 3' to never cut. The bunkers from tee to green havent been treated or raked in months. There was grass growing in most of them. The fringes around the green were either bare sand or patchy crabgrass.
I could see how this course could be very interesting but right now it appears that is either in bankruptcy or pretty close to being bulldozed over for housing.
How the members could allow this is beyond me unless they have all abandoned the place.
We thank you for playing at Great Rock and taking the time to review our course and the facility. We hope to see you again and we're working towards patching up anything we may have missed, thank you for letting us know!
course in horrible shapre
i always talk my friends into playing this course and we enjoy it..but now it has gone to waste....the greens and fairways are terrible. dirt patches. only green on the course is the weeds....the course is just in horrible shape. seems like nothing but mowing the weeds being done. a shame b/c I always lovd the layout and fun of the course. not sure my friends will ever go back now.
Good course even with summer damage
I always enjoy playing at Great Rock, and this was my first time back in a while, and even though this dry and scorching summer has certainly taken it's toll on the golf course (along with most others in the area), I still enjoyed my round and the quick pace it was played at.
Great day out.
Even wth threats of showers, play was great. Our weather has been hot and spots are showing termputure damage. Overall course is just less than perfect. Greens were quick.
Ok track
Fairways and greens were not in top shape. Other area courses are in better shape. Aside from this: it's a nice track with elevations and character. Elevations are a bit unusual and nice for LI.
Downhill fast
We played a 5 hour round this past Sunday on a course that used to be one of our favorites. The course has gone downhill and is in severe disrepair. The fairways were brown, burnt and no grass in places. The greens were somewhat decent but patchy at best. The overall appearance seems unkempt - perfect example is the azalea wall. What a beautiful ride around that hole in the summertime it used to be. However, now it is a wall of weeds. The best thing I can say about the course is the new restaurant and clubhouse amenities. Maybe that's where all our money went instead of maintaining the course? It's a shame since I'm not coming there to shower in their beautiful locker room but to play golf. If they want to pay for the amenities, they need to pick up the care of the golf course. To charge $70-60 a round in these conditions is absurd and shameful.

Best Value for all skill levels
Course is in great shape and has some of the fastest green on Long Island.
Friendly staff and restaurant had a great lunch special
We start early and played in less than 4 hours.
Some of the fairways have severe slope, so be careful where you play your tee shot.
12th hole, par 3 is short but play 1+ club to the center of the green.
kbernatzky,
We appreciate your review and excellent 5 star rating! We are so pleased to hear that your round with us was exceptional! We hope that you can come back again soon for another great day of golf!
Best wishes,

Sad
This has long been a "go to" course for me. An interesting layout, impeccably maintained...
Not sure if is the drought conditions or a lack of budget, but it has fallen into a bit of disrepair. Inconsistent greens, crabgrass rough and collars (as well as on the tee boxes), and unkempt bunkers have turned this into a very "municipal" course.
I would gladly pay another $20-30 to have it returned to what it once was.
We appreciate your feedback and sorry to hear that the conditions may not have been up to par. We have informed our staff and crews on the matter and are working hard to rectify the situation and make this the best Great Rock GC possible for your next round.
Food Was Great
Saw a threesome go out in front of us and they looked like hackers, so we stopped for lunch (45 minutes) at the clubhouse to give them a head start. This threesome held up the whole course. We caught up to them and waited 20 minutes each whole while they took there twelfth shot on a par four. This course needed a ranger to move play. This threesome ruined the day for everyone behind them. Having a ranger to speak to them might make them upset but one upset threesome is better than a whole bunch of upset foursomes behind them.
FredCortese,
