Morgan Hill Golf Course
About
The Morgan Hill Golf Course in Easton has a somewhat misleading name since you'll find more than just hills on this challenging course. Be prepared to face a variety of elevation changes ranging from subtle to dramatic. The golf course has a dramatic design that is carved into a hillside, which makes it a hard course to walk but one that is visually interesting and tough to play. It may not be a layout for the faint of heart but the scenery alone is enough to provide enjoyment. Golfers can enjoy scenic views of the river, but scenic respite is the only break you'll get. There is hardly an even lie to be found and the severely undulating greens will test even the most seasoned golfers. Also, be prepared for a slew of blind shots at Morgan Hill Golf Course.

This course is a challenge
I've been playing this course for the last few years and surprised not may play it. I know it is very demanding for the average golfer, but very satisfying to the advanced golfer. Shot makers course.
Dramatic elevation changes
Up and down layout. Seldom a flat lie. Great condition, great value and fun course for any level golfer.
Go elsewhere
I decided after playing this course about a month ago to give it another try. HORRIBLE MISTAKE ON MY PART. Booked a hot deal on golfnow, which are paid in full at the time of reservation. This course had the nerve to charge us 10 dollars a player more as a "cart fee". Dispite my having my golfnow receipt saying I'm paid in full, including cart.
Now let's get to the course. Tee time was 12:50, not a cart to be found at the bag drop and told they're behind about 15 minutes. 30 minutes later we get a cart and are sent to the tee. Six hours and 11 minutes later we finish the 18th hole. This is unacceptable in any circumstance. The greens are like playing a mini golf course. The only thing missing is a windmill. Blind tee shot after blind tee shot. Six hours on course and we see the beverage cart once. The staff could've cared less about the waiting. How many Rangers did we see in a six hour round you may ask? ZERO. Not once was there anyone to encourage pace of play. We even called the clubhouse and were told "I'll see what I can do". This was a disgrace. No one who plays this course has a divot tool it would seem. PLAY ELSEWHERE YOUVE BEEN WARNED.
tough course....need to play a few times
tough layout if you don't know where to put your ball...enjoyed the day!
Not for the faint of heart
I played MH about 10 years ago when my handicap was much higher and vowed to never return, but was talked into going back by a friend and spent most of the morning trying to remember why my previous experience was so negative. Fortunately I'm a better golfer now and realized it's not the best course for a beginner, but for intermediate and advanced gofers, the challenges are unique and fair. There are lots of blind shots and undulating fairways, elevation changes, and some tough pin placements at times. So if you're tired of the traditional links courses, this is a great change of pace.
Course conditions were excellent. We started at 6:40 am with wet greens, but by 9:00, the greens rolled great. I wouldn't recommend walking this course, even if you're fit. The price for the quality and condition of the course is a tremendous value. The views are amazing and the carts come equipped with satellite GPS which is convenient and helpful. The food at the restaurant is very good and not your standard hot dogs and hamburgers menu. Drinks on the golf course are also very reasonable. Definitely a challenge because the terrain will bounce shots around, but if you like to think about crafting shots, this is a good course for you where course management plays a big role.
Will come back to Morgan Hill
We had a great time playing at Morgan Hill, even though the greens had just been aerated. The Pro offered for us to come back again at no cost after the greens have recovered. The layout of the course is fun and challenging for an average golfer, and the vistas of the mountains are wonderful. We will definitely come back many times.
Great Public Course
Challenging. Greens aren't the fastest but if they were it would be a VERY difficult course.
Give it a chance it'll grow on you
You have to play this course a couple of times to appreciate it is a great challenge of golf an the views are spectacular give it a chance Think you will enjoy it the course is in very good condition to.
Details cost this a 5th star
I really like this golf course! It may be the hilliest golf course I've ever played - save for maybe Cruden Bay in Scotland. It's VERY difficult with all of the elevation changes, narrow targets off of several tees, and VERY deep bunkers. If you can't hit your fairway woods very straight then you'll have problems on several tees here and might be better served choosing an easier course. It is NOT for high-handicappers as the deep bunkers are a challenge even for low-handicappers - but luckily we will avoid most of them.
First off, the GREENS were in FABULOUS condition. I was actually able to make a bunch of 6-15 foot putts - not common on many public tracks. They were a little bit slower than I would prefer, but they were probably a perfect speed for this course overall.
The rest of the course was in good shape too, if not as immaculate as the greens. Fairways were good with some spottiness on the collars. Rough was thick and difficult - especially since the ball likes to roll into it off the steep slopes. Still, excellent conditions. But here are where some of the "details" I refer to come in. The bunkers all seem to be in good general condition with the proper amount of reasonably-new sand, however they were crusty and full of footprints. They had obviously not been turned over by course maintenance in quite some time. One would think they'd give the bunkers a quick turn before the weekend. They are difficult enough as it is!
While we're on the "details", here are the other ones that knocked this review down a star:
- No water in water coolers. It was 96 degrees Saturday and all but ONE water cooler (the one on 11 tee next to the clubhouse) was completely empty. Simply unacceptable. We were desperate for water much of the day. A couple beers and waters from the cart girl weren't NEARLY enough to keep us hydrated - as you can imagine.
- The practice area needs work. I can totally accept that there's no room for a driving range on the property. Instead, there is a reasonably long swath of netting and good faux turf to hit balls from. But the net is FULL of GIANT holes. I did my best to find a spot without holes to hit into but it wasn't possible. In about 2 dozen practice shots, a couple found one of the many holes in the net and I'm pretty sure one hit a house about 150 yards behind the net. Get a new net! And while you're at it, clean up the practice bunker that is overgrown with weeds - or maybe just remove it altogether. It's an eyesore and obviously not usable. It's a well-designed practice facility considering the space constraints with a large, well-kept practice green. Finish up the "details"...
- They were definitely understaffed. The same guy was running the pro shop, getting people into carts, and starting them. He was definitely overwhelmed and couldn't keep up. I imagine low-staffing is also why they weren't filling the coolers on the course. This was probably that same guy's job. Not possible to do on a reasonably busy Saturday afternoon.
- Marshal the course. Our round completed in the apparently-expected 4 hours and 45 minutes (I know that's pretty slow but I think it's fair considering the difficulty of the course) but I think that only happened because some members (like the group behind us) called it quits early. They caught us on nearly every tee as we waited for the group ahead to clear - and they got tired of waiting. Judging by the cryptic cart tracker display on our cart, it seemed the course was playing slow much of the day ahead of us (lots of red). It seemed to clear up just as we were finishing - probably due to lighter afternoon traffic and early-withdrawals.
OK, enough whining.
This course is INCREDIBLY scenic! On many holes you have a full view to the North/Northwest of a large swath of the Lehigh Valley. It's fantastic. From the 17th tee, you have a GREAT view South into New Jersey and down the Delaware River. Breathtaking. Then you have to figure out how to get your tee shot from that crazily-elevated tee down into that narrow fairway with a 1-3 club wind in your face. :0) I failed on my first attempt Saturday. I laugh to think I may have hit the same house that I'd hit earlier from the other side through the net.
OK, I think that's enough. Go play this course - it's a great bargain and challenge. The views and the quality of the greens alone are worth the price of admission. Just make sure to bring a gallon jug of water with you!
great day at morgan hill
Its been 2 years since our last visit to Morgan Hill and it was nice to return today. The course was a bit crowded and the pace was a little slow here and there. The course conditions were good as a whole. The greens were a bit inconsistent and we found it tough to get a handle on distance control with our lag putting. What you have at Morgan Hill is a chance to hit as many heroic type shots as any course you'll play. Hitting the green on the severely downhill par 3 12th hole from 196 yds out will make anyone smile as its a real tough shot. The same goes for the severely uphill par 3 14th hole that plays 215 yds. You must hit a high ball to score at this course as its all carry to get near any pin. The par 5 13th hole and 5th hole are spectacular and difficult.
If you like a challenge and scenic views and have never played Morgan Hill, go there soon and enjoy.
Father's Day Round
This was the first time I've ever had any issues with pace of play here.
Usually we drive from Philly and play in three hours, have lunch and play 18 more.
Fantastic condition as always. Challenging, I highly recommend asking for tee box suggestions based on handicaps.
Challenging and fun
First off the most noticeable differences between Morgan Hill and your "normal" course is the extreme elevation change and the undulating greens. The elevation here is more than any course I've ever played, some 2 club up and down hill.
The greens are tough, if you are in the wrong section or on the wrong tier 2 putting is a great accomplishment.
Played the white tees from 6100 yards and a 127 slope and shot 80 on a 7.4 index and was happy. Next time I'll test the green tees and see how it goes now that I know the course and sight lines off the tee as there are a few blind landings. The wide fairways help with the fun factor. It's a must play for those looking for a good test of their skills.
Awesome Views - Beautiful Greens
First round, really loved this course. Getting to know the course will help alot, as with any course. All aspects of the course maintenance were superb. Greens rolled true and were in great shape.
Great Course
I have gone back to Morgan Hill every year for the crazy elevation changes and amazing views. This course can be difficult the first time through, but after I played it once I immediately wanted to play it again. You will gain much needed course knowledge after the first run through. Many challenging approach shots.
I always get a great deal in the spring time, before the hacks come out and the price goes up.
Greens are sic
Nice course, great condition. Lots of blind shots. Greens were the fastest and hardest to read that I ever played. I'm a 12 handicap , hit it great all day. I three putted no less than 8 greens and 4 putted one. Putting for birdie many times only to walk away with bogie.
Fun Course as Long as you are OK with Hills
I love hilly courses thus I always enjoy playing here. However, if you are a high-handicapped golfer this course would be too demanding.
The only negative was I wish they had rolled the greens. Puts of 4-8 foot were almost impossible to sink when the ball always breaks away from the cup at the last minute.
Not for the Novice
Played on a Saturday and teed off just after noon as a twosome. Pace of play was excellent as we finished in just under 4 hours which is unusual for Morgan Hill on a weekend. This course is under new management and they are doing some work to improve the course. They have taken out the bunkers on the par five 13th that were in the middle of the fairway and came into play on the second shot but we're not visible. A great improvement. They have also reseeded the first cut of rough around the entire golf course to make it more consistent It was just planted last fall and it hasn't completely filled in. The bunkers need a good amount of work as they have little to no sand in them. Some are filled with rocks. Tees. Fairways and greens were all in very good shape. The greens rolled true and fast at about 10 on the stimp. The course is VERY hilly not recommended for walking. You'll get a good workout in a cart. The elevation changes make club selection a challenge as there are holes with a two to three club difference. Not too many forced carries but due to the slope and elevation changes I wouldn't recommend this course for anyone with a handicap over 20 although from the white tees it only plays about 6,000 yards (we played what looked to be a combo of green and blue tees which played to about 6,600 yards. Course rating from the tips is 72.8 with a slope of 135 and a par of 71 at 6,750 yards. It drops to 69.5 127 and 6,058 yards from the whites. All in all a good test of golf with a nice mix of par fours over and under 400 yards. I hit every club in the bag. Once the newly planted rough grows in, Morgan Hill will be on our regular play list this summer.
DJ
Lots of elevation change on fairways. Green have undalation galore. Want to be on the right tier.
A few blind shots but a great track to play.
No driving range is a minus but rest of course is top shelf.
Great Course
I have played this course many times. It is a difficult course with minimal flat areas and a fair amount of blindspots. A great course to test your accuracy and short game.
