Morgan Hill Golf Course
About
The Morgan Hill Golf Course in Easton has a somewhat misleading name since you'll find more than just hills on this challenging course. Be prepared to face a variety of elevation changes ranging from subtle to dramatic. The golf course has a dramatic design that is carved into a hillside, which makes it a hard course to walk but one that is visually interesting and tough to play. It may not be a layout for the faint of heart but the scenery alone is enough to provide enjoyment. Golfers can enjoy scenic views of the river, but scenic respite is the only break you'll get. There is hardly an even lie to be found and the severely undulating greens will test even the most seasoned golfers. Also, be prepared for a slew of blind shots at Morgan Hill Golf Course.

Awesome Views - Beautiful Greens
First round, really loved this course. Getting to know the course will help alot, as with any course. All aspects of the course maintenance were superb. Greens rolled true and were in great shape.
Great Course
I have gone back to Morgan Hill every year for the crazy elevation changes and amazing views. This course can be difficult the first time through, but after I played it once I immediately wanted to play it again. You will gain much needed course knowledge after the first run through. Many challenging approach shots.
I always get a great deal in the spring time, before the hacks come out and the price goes up.
Greens are sic
Nice course, great condition. Lots of blind shots. Greens were the fastest and hardest to read that I ever played. I'm a 12 handicap , hit it great all day. I three putted no less than 8 greens and 4 putted one. Putting for birdie many times only to walk away with bogie.
Fun Course as Long as you are OK with Hills
I love hilly courses thus I always enjoy playing here. However, if you are a high-handicapped golfer this course would be too demanding.
The only negative was I wish they had rolled the greens. Puts of 4-8 foot were almost impossible to sink when the ball always breaks away from the cup at the last minute.
Not for the Novice
Played on a Saturday and teed off just after noon as a twosome. Pace of play was excellent as we finished in just under 4 hours which is unusual for Morgan Hill on a weekend. This course is under new management and they are doing some work to improve the course. They have taken out the bunkers on the par five 13th that were in the middle of the fairway and came into play on the second shot but we're not visible. A great improvement. They have also reseeded the first cut of rough around the entire golf course to make it more consistent It was just planted last fall and it hasn't completely filled in. The bunkers need a good amount of work as they have little to no sand in them. Some are filled with rocks. Tees. Fairways and greens were all in very good shape. The greens rolled true and fast at about 10 on the stimp. The course is VERY hilly not recommended for walking. You'll get a good workout in a cart. The elevation changes make club selection a challenge as there are holes with a two to three club difference. Not too many forced carries but due to the slope and elevation changes I wouldn't recommend this course for anyone with a handicap over 20 although from the white tees it only plays about 6,000 yards (we played what looked to be a combo of green and blue tees which played to about 6,600 yards. Course rating from the tips is 72.8 with a slope of 135 and a par of 71 at 6,750 yards. It drops to 69.5 127 and 6,058 yards from the whites. All in all a good test of golf with a nice mix of par fours over and under 400 yards. I hit every club in the bag. Once the newly planted rough grows in, Morgan Hill will be on our regular play list this summer.
DJ
Lots of elevation change on fairways. Green have undalation galore. Want to be on the right tier.
A few blind shots but a great track to play.
No driving range is a minus but rest of course is top shelf.
Great Course
I have played this course many times. It is a difficult course with minimal flat areas and a fair amount of blindspots. A great course to test your accuracy and short game.
A Keeper
I play this course a minimum of 2 times year. Demanding from tee to green with spectacular views.
Slow-Play
Liked the course, which was in good condition for February. That being said, the slow pace of play ruined the day.
Worth the drive from Philadelphia area
Beautiful course with spectacular views of Easton and many cool holes with changes in elevation. Love the elevated par 3 and the drive able downhill par 4. Can't say enough about this course. Always a value deal on GolfNow at some point and worth the hour plus drive from Philadelphia.
hidden gem
My friends and I travel over an hour multiple times a year from North Jersey to play Morgan Hill. It is a course for players who are serious about golf who want a challenging but fair round of golf. The course is always in great shape with well manicured fairways and greens. The greens are very challenging and you need to play them a few times to learn how to putt them really well. I belong to a golf league and convinced the members to include Morgan Hill in our league rotation. We have some excellent players and some inexperienced players yet nearly all the members were thrilled with the course after playing it. There are only a couple of courses in NJ which the public can play which are of the quality of Morgan Hill ( like Ballyowen and Crystal Springs). Those courses are equally challenging and well manicured, have much nicer clubhouses and restaurants/ facilities but you pay half the price to play golf of equal quality at Morgan Hill. If it was closer I would play it every week!
mt bike park
I truly like the track and layout at this course. Have more than a few friends that refuse to play it again. i Would love to mountain bike most of the terrain. The downside is the green and approaches. I don't mind a blind approach.
Almost every hole now that is ridiculous. I know recent owners did not build the course, but pretty sure that the average duffer will agree, the greens location, rolling bumps and berms, and tough visibility trying to differentiate the fringe from green at any distance over 30 yds. were design overkill. Stopped playing one local course because no one wants to hit out of a driveway broom rough. Will only return, it I have a great price and severely need a challenge. Or for a great view, good meal, and good libation.
great place to play
thanks for the great rate and good time. would recommend this course to anyone who loves a challenge
Can I get a flat lie?
I played this course on Wednesday 11/18/15, at 10:45am on a HotDeal for $20. I am a 5 handicap, and I played the track from the back tees, which were Green that day, and shot a +11, 82. For some reason the Blue tees weren't in play.
Conditions.........
Keep in mind that all comments are condition based.
Tee Boxes: Excellent
Tees were the only flat spots on the course, and I mean that. Beautiful condition, nice and even.
Fairways: Excellent
I always had a great lie in the fairway, and it was well maintained and felt great under my spikes.
Rough: Bad
They have been doing a ton of work on the course. They're narrowing the fairways, and adding a new cut of rough. My guess is to help pace of play, since they stressed through multiple outlets while there. The conditions are pretty awful right now. Most of the area is ropped off from carts, so it should be great for next season.
Green: Excellent
The greens were very well maintained, nice and consistent from hole to hole. No bumps or tractor markings, very even and true.
Play Experience........
Tee Shots:
Completely blind, on almost every hole. It was my first time, and I had no clue where to place the ball. The undulation of the fairways, combined with the limited sight, made for an extremely tough tee day.
Approach Shots:
Can I get a flat lie? Good Lord, what do I have to do to get a flat lie? Again I don't know the course, so blind tee shots into crazy undulation, made for some tough lies for my second shot. Most of the approach shots were either uphill, or downhill, so choosing the correct club is difficult. There was quite a bit of wind that day, given that you're on a mountain. The greens are all very visually intimidating, so it was hard to get into a rhythm for me.
Putting/Chipping:
The greens were in excellent shape, but they were a touch slow for what you'd expect. I guess again this is to help with pace of play. Given the conditions, it was easy to get a chip close. You could also be quite aggressive putting, which I don't mind. Helped me save a few holes.
Overall Rating:
Overall, I would not recommend playing this course to the average Joe. It had the most severe elevation changes I have ever played, and without repeat play there, I don't think I would ever be able to break my 82. There were times where I thought I hit an amazing shot, only to find out I was 15yds into the rough. This course is a real challenge, and I would recommend it only to the golfer that is trying to really test their entire game, both physically and mentally.
Love the Changes
New owners have done quite a bit of work to make the course more playable- removing hidden bunkers that were visually impressive from aerial views but resulted in very slow pace of play. The course is still plenty challenging with all the uneven lies and difficulty in club selection due to the elevation changes. Also like the plans for widening the fairways, even though it detracted from the current condition with GUR lining every fairway. One other suggestion to improve pace of play (yesterday was still quite pedestrian at 4:40) is to remove some of the more severe undulations in the greens and perhaps make the greens smaller. Club selection due to extreme elevation changes is difficult enough on several holes without having to battle multiple green contours- don't get me wrong, I love the challenges the course presents, but for less-skilled players the constant danger of three and four putting due to the contours is not only frustrating but lengthens pace of play.
Buy Life Insurance before Riding. Morgan Maoutain instead of Morgan Hills.
'The Good' and 'the Bad'.
The Good:
The Greens, Tee Boxes, Fairways are in Awesome Shape. They use chemicals to help grass grow and keep out the weeds. Liked how Management 'narrowed' the fairways and will put more 'first cut' rough in its place. Bravo! The greens have many levels and have elevation. Staff is friendly. Pace was good but my wife and I played on Thursday when rain was through out the day. So not many players that day. Liked the GPS. 5 Stars. Club House was great, clean and well maintained. We did not eat there but other friends have told us they like the quality of food. We will go there to try it out on our anniversary or some special day like that. Gave a my rating for value for the money because I get a Hot Tee Time off of GolfNow.com I would never paid full paid for this course but what I paid, it was good.
The Bad.....
Take out Life Insurance before riding this course. This is my 2nd time playing this course. Once a few years ago and no rain that day, but Fog and dew. 2nd time was rain throughout the day. Both times felt like the carts are not made for a Mountain Course such as Morgan Hills. You are never in control. Front 9 nine was not 'inclined' as the back 9. Hole 13 'lucky 13' is a death trap bot wet and dry. First Time I played it was dry and minimal 'speed bumps' Still the cart would not stop and slid out of control many times. When wet it was nightmare. Cert came very close to flipping over on me several times. Had to bail out every time. Other holes were just as dangerous where carts was sliding and lost of control. After the round, Cart Guy said that the cart only 'brake' on one side. No wonder. And the tires were worn out, and no tread life (slicks). First Time, I played there on the 2nd hole going to the Cart Path from Green, Flipped the cart due to the dew on the grass. Was not hurt (and cart too!) but I as shaken. Yesterday I slipped & fell on the parts of the fairways they were growing their first cuts of rough. Now my right foot is banged up pretty good.
They should call 'Morgan Mountain' instead of , Morgan Hills because of steep inclines and declines. It is 900 foot mountain (I have heard).
This is the reason for slow play. You play into walls of the mountain. Your balls sides off to god knows where. Many 'over the mountain' shots to god knows' where your ball is. One more slow play issue:
With my wife with me, she needs a bathroom. Not a tree like me... No Port o' Johns on any of the holes. At hole 10, had a 10 minute break to use the Club House's Bathrooms. Bathrooms at the turn were closed for the season? Strange because the official Golf Season in New Jersey/PA is April 1st through Oct 31st.
The Sand Traps were in awful shape. Know they it just rained 2 inches the day before, but they could have raked the traps. Lots of clay and dirt and all of the sand was at the bottom of each trap.
Sir, i am the Director of Golf and would like to respond to a few of your concerns. It sounds as though you were not satisfied with your entire day. I have been in the business a long time 1987 to be exact and have never seen a review like yours. I have been here 3 years and never had carts get into situations like yours. Our carts are inspected every thursday and the tires are inspected as well. As a matter of fact our carts are brand new so the tires are also new. As for the bathrooms we have them closed when the golf course feels that we can use the restrooms in the clubhouse instead. Its one hole and most golf courses that i play do Not have port o' johns on them let alone a restroom at the turn unless it is the clubhouse. I have played golf all over the country and seen the same everywhere i have played. As for the condition of the sand traps we did get rain and it does unfortunately take time to rake. I appologize we did not bring in an extra crew to make sure they were raked but our staff does the best possible job. As for the golf course being on the mountain, yes it's a beautiful layout with fantastic views. The back 9 is the best i have ever played and i came from some great courses, pebble beach being one of them. So i am sorry you had a bad day and enjoy the rest of your season.
An interesting challenge!!
The course is a challenge! There are quite a few blind tee shots. They are repairing a number of fairways...the reason for a 'fair' rating. But it is a scenic course and a fun one. Will return soon!
Won't play again
We invited friends to play this course because, in the past, the conditions were excellent. This time however, this was not the case. The course was over watered, we had no significant amount of rain lately, to the point that areas around the greens were downright soogie. Then, during the back nine, they started some kind of construction whereas the were removing the sod from the fairways, leaving you to play your second shot out of dirt, litterely, not to mention trying to play with a tractor driving back and forth in front of us.
I can understand that perhaps the course needs this maintenance but, I think that they should've waited until Monday to start. I was so embarresed to have our friends play under those conitions.
As stated in the subject line, I will not play this course again.
Sir, I see that you are from Lehigh Valley and don't know if you visit the golf course on a regular basis. As of March the golf course is under new ownership and fantastic changes have been made to the golf course in which our feedback has been nothing but positive and understanding. Unfortunately construction cannot be done while the course is closed and it's no different for the thousands of golf courses in the country. As for the construction i don't understand your statement because it was a very small area on one hole and it was actually roped off as ground under repair. Your statement makes it sound like the area was completely dirt when it was all new sod. I look at the positive side of this knowing that the money invested in improving the golf course so a foursome like yours that played that day can enjoy a golf course that the current owners want to improve like no other golf course in the area. Many golfers that play Morgan Hill are not aware that it has been nationally ranked as one of the best public golf courses in the state of PA. It's unfortunate that this occurred while you were playing but like i said it's for the best and ownership wants the best in the region!! Again we apologize for the fantastic improvements that are taking place!!!
Not worth the drive
From reading reviews I was prepared for the hills/mountain, however I was not prepared for over half the course to be under construction. Playing on a Saturday morning and paying the top rate, I do not expect to have to deal with the maintenance crew aerating/tilling fairways during play, but that was the case today. Worse yet was the maintenance guy tearing up the fairway did not seem to care that paying golfers were waiting on him. 6 of the 9 back nine fairways had at least 40% of the fairways as ground under repair due to them being tilled/aerated. A simple heads up at check-in or better yet on the course website to alert before making tee times would have been nice. Don't think I need to make the drive again.
I would like to apologize for your unfortunate day. As of March we are under new ownership. Since 2004 when the golf course opened feedback was that the golf course was challenging. Ownership as of the spring as well as the professional staff felt that FANTASTIC changes needed to be done to make this course the best in the valley. Timing was an important issue with the changing of some fairways where we will be adding a first cut to some fairways so golf balls would not roll from the fairway into the rough on some of the holes where fairways sloped. This timing had to be done with really no notice because wind plays an important factor with spraying and seeding. Unfortunately this happened when you played your round. The process was split seeding and has to be done at such a crucial time. After 7-10 days seeds will pop and we will have some great looking holes!!! We understand your frustration and want you to know that the next time you visit the club the results will be OUTSTANDING!!!!!! Again the staff at Morgan Hill would like to apologize.
Great course and facility
Only downside was pace of play, course was overbooked on a Sunday morning with 2 outings and normal tee times. Course and facility are worth the drive.
Norman, 2015 we have seen some great changes to the golf course. In looking at the tee sheet for Sunday and when seeing groups of 12 or more some customers will react as if an outing was booked. I just tell customers that tee times are only available on weekends but some tee times can be groups of 12-16 players and they are waiting on there tee times like everyone else. Having been in the business since 1987 this is typically the comment i get when players check in. No outings were booked for Sunday but this time of year we do get some morning fog and that will play into tee times. Saturday morning we had fog setting in on the course until 9am. The course again was not booked for Outings on Sunday and we apologize if you feel this way.
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
i wanted to respond to your comments. I have been a professional since 1987 and have played all over the country. On any hilly golf course i would be in the same situation you were in not knowing distances as well as positioning of tee shots. Flat lies are plentiful once you have played the course a couple times which is no different for any players playing any golf course. As for the over seeding this was done a month ago and is actually a first cut and not rough. It will grow in nicely come spring and is about 90 grown in now. As for any course grass has slowed its growth period and most golf courses come november are not even mowing so some of the comments surprise me coming from a 5 handicapper, i would assume you would know that. People also don't know playing this golf course that it was ranked nationally by golf digest as well as being one of the top public golf courses in the state of PA. We have hosted many PGA (Local) events and will continue to due so in 2016. Again thank you for your feedback. Play well in 2016
