Verde River Golf & Social Club

About
Verde River Golf & Social Club (formerly known as Tegavah Golf Club and Vista Verde Golf Course) has a desert style layout that features panoramic views of Four Peaks, the Superstition Mountains, Weaver's Needle, and the Tonto National Forest. In addition to the scenery, the golf course also presents interesting challenges such as subtle contours and desert wasteland areas that guard the holes. The greens lead to generous landing areas that require precision and length. Although only one water hazard comes into play on one hole, there are several sand bunkers strategically situated throughout. Verde River Golf & Social Club offers five sets of teeboxes to offer suitable challenges for players of all skill levels and abilities.

Construction Everywhere
While the course way in relatively good shape, there was a tremendous amount of traffic from construction in the area. I believe the price was high, currently, for the inconvenience of the construction. I would come back in a few years.

Spectacular views match the Course!
Have played 7 courses so far on this trip. This is #1. Really good golf course and the scenery is amazing. Was only disappointed when they charged $15 extra for my wife to ride along - first club to do so.
Great Course
Challenging holes, with a surprisingly decent amount of room for error. Course was in great shape, and very well manicured. Definitely worth the cost.
Always a solid golf experience
Over seeding is very good. Greens are very true. Great mountain and nature views. And I usually do not pay much attention to views while I am grinding away at my game.
One of the best publicly accessible courses in the Phoenix area.
Another great day at Vista Verde
It just keeps getting better. The course, the views, the experience is all first rate. We had a great day playing as beautiful of course as we could hope for in the desert. Greens were quick and true and the tee and fairways were immaculate. The practice tee is exceptional as well.
One stinker was one of the cart men who when asked if we could take the cart to the car to retrieve our sunglasses said. "Can't you see the sign?" I took that for "Sorry sir. I would be happy to get those for you if you would give me your keys." It just got lost in the translation I guess.
At any rate, if you have not played it do so. It is well worth the drive and the money. And when you get to the only house on the course, turn around and look at their view. Exceptional.
First time at Vista Verde
Great driving range and course is a beaut. Not a real long course but don't miss the greens.
An enjoyable of golf
My wife and I have played the course several times.
Scenery is beautiful, course is not too difficult for average players.
Looking forward to seeing improvements from new ownership.
Fun course Great staff
PLAYED the course in 3 hours, Once they finish the club house this track will be even better.
Terrific desert golf course
Course conditions at this course could be much better and their of forts to redo the practice facility has really made a visit even better. The Rye grass is at its peak so both fairways and greens are lush and pleasing to the eye.
Best Value
Vista Verde/Tegavah seemed to have quite a few deals on golfnow when we were booking. May have slightly lower prices due to how far outside the city it is, but once you get out there there is desert for miles all around and it is a peaceful setting for a golf round. Definitely the best value at $60-$90 on golfnow.
The course was in good shape; the greens had a decent amount of ball marks (why does nobody fix their marks), but otherwise in good shape. Good practice facility. Pace was pretty slow, but I guess 4.5 h is normal for Phoenix.
Not much for a clubhouse if you care about that sort of thing.
Great vistas, friendly staff
Very good golf course, well laid out, well bunkered and quite fast greens. Great views. The pace of play was very good on a Sunday afternoon. Staff is very helpful and friendly.
They still have a temporary clubhouse but that should soon change as Shea Homes has bought the course and will develop a community there.
Location, location, location
Made the 45 minute drive from Tempe to Tegovah, and I'm delighted I did.... You play a really interesting track that was in really good condition on the top of the mountain.
In the distance there are a few higher peaks but you feel on top of the world. The day we played it was blowing at 30 mph so was quite chilly and playing tough. Interesting layout, good practice facilities, coupled with terrific people. All round great job. The last four holes play into the prevailing wind and are back uphill to the clubhouse so when windy a par finish will be really tough.....
5 sets of tee boxes allow big hitters to play with those who are shorter or ladies without any impact on anyone.
They are currently operating from a temporary clubhouse. If they hadn't told us that you wouldn't have known so don't let that impact your decision to play....
Will be back next time I'm in Phoenix.
Special thanks to Linda, Carl and Jim who I joined for my afternoon - thank you for your company; really enjoyed it.....
Excellant new course in area
The course was in good shape and played very well, got lucky and played with a excellent golfers from Ann Arbour Michigan who were the best to play with.
Enjoyed my golf, the people played with, and the staff at the course.
Vista Verda
The course was a beautiful desert course. I like the fact that the range balls were included in the fee. The vistas are beautiful. We enjoyed the golf very much.
Hurting a bit
Normally a great golf course, but this time the greens were shaggy and had spots of damage. The fairways in several spots were hurting as well, hopefully they can bring it back up to par soon.
worth the drive
scenic desert course. Good condition. No houses ,just scenery! If you play back further than you should you will need extra balls as it will be tough keeping it in the fairway.
Five star practice facilities!
Part of the attraction for me was the chance to see wild horses, not this time though!
Wish I found this course sooner...
We played on a cool, but sunny day in late Dec. We really enjoyed the course layout and conditions. We will be playing there again...
Beautiful Desert Course
Great course, great views and great staff. The drive is worth it.
Great Course with killer views
The staff was wonderful and accommodating. I booked online through Golfnow.com and got a $54 rate! I arrived early and they paired me up with two players and got us out ahead of the tee time I scheduled. Driving range is nice with complimentary balls. Practice green was closed for maintenance. Course was in fantastic shape with great lush fairways and the greens were very nice, though a little slow. Its a ride to get out there, but worth the time. Very quiet and picturesque. It is challenging and the desert areas are not where you want to hit the ball. The course has been around for a while, but there is no clubhouse or accommodations other than two small buildings, one for the offices and one for the proshop. Plenty of parking, carts are in new condition and run well. Go online to find the best deals.
