Cider Ridge Review
This course starts off rather flat, but soon you can see it was carved into the Mt. Cheaha & Talladega Natl Forest Regions of Alabama. It offers four to five sets of tee boxes on each hole, so you can bite off as much as you can chew. You better be in good physical condition to handle the ups & downs of the terrain, specially on the back nine.
The greens are bent grass & even tho they had been hole-punched & sanded recently, they would still hold an approach shot. The speed & undulation makes putting fairly difficult. The fairways were excellent, cut at about 3/4 inches which allowed players to get a club under the ball on fairway shots.
Beautiful!
Another great round at Cider Ridge! We had a great time! Weather forecast showed 60% chance of rain so we were little afraid that we will get wet today but it is Alabama after all and it was sunny all day. Course is in a great condition, rough is recently cut so if you’re not in a fairway, you can still find your ball...So bring your golfing buddies and have yourselves some fun people!
Need Beverage Carts
Need Beverage carts on the course. Put them out there consistently and players will use them. Your soft drink supplier will typically supply the carts.
Other than that everything is fantastic!!
Great
It was a hot day but course was in excellent condition. The only thing we were little annoyed by was grass cutting crew that accompanied us for last 4 holes.
Golf
Beautiful course a little sand On the greens but understandable. Definitely playing again
Cider Ridge
This course is in amazing shape, and is the tale of two 9’s. The front features more of a neighborhood type feel with beautiful houses hugging the fairways. The back however, is considerably harder with tight fairways and some picturesque wilderness. This course gives a big time PGA feel to the amateur golfer. It is surprisingly affordable when using GolfNow, and I HIGHLY recommend Cider Ridge. It is an awesome experience!
Cider Ridge
This course is in amazing shape, and is the tale of two 9’s. The front features some beautiful house that line many of the fairways and the back features some beautiful wilderness. The back is exceptionally more difficult than the front. This course gives that feel of a big time PGA course while still remaining playable for an amateur. This course is amazingly affordable and is a great challenge. I HIGHLY recommend it!
Perfect in May
I play this course about 5 times a year on avg. This year (april 2018), is the best shape i have ever seen it. Greens are perfect. Fairways are in mid summer form already by the month of may. sometimes the pace of play is slow.
Amazing
Played this course on Friday and Saturday, the first time around was frustrating but the second time was perfect. Ver challenging layout that definitely rewards knowledge of the course. One of the most beautiful courses I've ever played. Only complaint I had was the GPS on the cart didn't give you yardages. Would play this course every week if I lived in the area, unfortunately that's not the case.
Aerated with no warning.
Booked my round through Golfnow and there was no warning that the greens had been aerated. Actually booked a round here because my home course had been aerated and I didn't want to play on aerated greens. Drove an hour each way for nothing.
Course gets an A, amenities get an F
Cider Ridge is in much better shape than my last trip.
Bare spots on some greens are no longer there. Greens were very good.
Fairways were better than I expected given the amount of rain we have had recently. No complaints with the golf course.
However, there are some major deficiencies elsewhere. My tee time was 10:36am and I arrived plenty early to warm up. I saw three fivesomes sent out. Not sure that is the best idea on a Friday mid morning at a busy public course when tee times are steady.
No water on course. All of the stations were missing water coolers. Why?
Carts are equipped with GPS, only they show just the hole diagram and an endless stream of ads. Pin locations are not marked so ZERO yardages are available. This is unacceptable for a Troon property.
Greens are subpar
I have played here quite frequently, though not for several months, and I have to say I was very surprised at the shape of the greens. The practice putting green was excellent, so I was looking forward to getting the round underway. Crenshaw bent greens in mid-November should be awesome. But they weren't.
I was disappointed to find how ragged some of the greens on the course are. Many bare spots. Other than the 18th green, I would say they fall way short of where they should be. That is a harsh critique, but I have played this course enough times, especially in the fall, to know what they can be and have been.
Once again, another Deep South course with Bentgrass greens that are struggling to keep them alive in the heat of summer, then are scrambling to make them playable in the fall and winter. I am not sure what direction Honours is trying to go from a maintenance standpoint. All of the greenside fans were removed, so not sure what that means going forward next year.
The fairways and tees have been overseeded and were really good, but the condition of the greens made this visit fall a bit short for me. The recent aeration had healed for the most part, and greens were quick. But too many thin, bare places.
As for the carts, they have installed GPS since I was here last. Yet, no pin placements were programmed, so yardages were unavailable. It was one advertisement after another. This needs to be addressed.
This layout, particularly the back nine, is excellent. The conditioning, however, needs to be improved to warrant anything other than a Hot Deal at this time.
This course has a great layout.
Love playing this course. Challenging but fair and is always in great shape.
Best In The Area
Very fun and challenging course. Well maintained with a friendly staff. My only gripe is the GPS on the carts. They lose signal and malfunction in several blind spots. Very aggravating. They also serve no purpose as they don’t provide a yardage. Big Brother much?
Immaculate
If not for the recent green aerification the course would have been perfect. The elevation changes made this course unique with many approach shots over scenic gorges. I will definitely be playing this course again!
