Aerated with no warning.
Booked my round through Golfnow and there was no warning that the greens had been aerated. Actually booked a round here because my home course had been aerated and I didn't want to play on aerated greens. Drove an hour each way for nothing.
Course gets an A, amenities get an F
Cider Ridge is in much better shape than my last trip.
Bare spots on some greens are no longer there. Greens were very good.
Fairways were better than I expected given the amount of rain we have had recently. No complaints with the golf course.
However, there are some major deficiencies elsewhere. My tee time was 10:36am and I arrived plenty early to warm up. I saw three fivesomes sent out. Not sure that is the best idea on a Friday mid morning at a busy public course when tee times are steady.
No water on course. All of the stations were missing water coolers. Why?
Carts are equipped with GPS, only they show just the hole diagram and an endless stream of ads. Pin locations are not marked so ZERO yardages are available. This is unacceptable for a Troon property.
Greens are subpar
I have played here quite frequently, though not for several months, and I have to say I was very surprised at the shape of the greens. The practice putting green was excellent, so I was looking forward to getting the round underway. Crenshaw bent greens in mid-November should be awesome. But they weren't.
I was disappointed to find how ragged some of the greens on the course are. Many bare spots. Other than the 18th green, I would say they fall way short of where they should be. That is a harsh critique, but I have played this course enough times, especially in the fall, to know what they can be and have been.
Once again, another Deep South course with Bentgrass greens that are struggling to keep them alive in the heat of summer, then are scrambling to make them playable in the fall and winter. I am not sure what direction Honours is trying to go from a maintenance standpoint. All of the greenside fans were removed, so not sure what that means going forward next year.
The fairways and tees have been overseeded and were really good, but the condition of the greens made this visit fall a bit short for me. The recent aeration had healed for the most part, and greens were quick. But too many thin, bare places.
As for the carts, they have installed GPS since I was here last. Yet, no pin placements were programmed, so yardages were unavailable. It was one advertisement after another. This needs to be addressed.
This layout, particularly the back nine, is excellent. The conditioning, however, needs to be improved to warrant anything other than a Hot Deal at this time.
This course has a great layout.
Love playing this course. Challenging but fair and is always in great shape.
Best In The Area
Very fun and challenging course. Well maintained with a friendly staff. My only gripe is the GPS on the carts. They lose signal and malfunction in several blind spots. Very aggravating. They also serve no purpose as they don’t provide a yardage. Big Brother much?
Immaculate
If not for the recent green aerification the course would have been perfect. The elevation changes made this course unique with many approach shots over scenic gorges. I will definitely be playing this course again!
Challenging but fun
All were friendly and helpful, staff and golfers. The course is very nice. Greens rolled true. The course becomes a true golf shot course as you progress. Their are a few elevation holes that really make club selection difficult without having previously played. I will definitely return to this course. Very glad we finally decided to play Cider Ridge.
One of my favorite courses.
Cider Ridge is one of my favorite courses in the area. It is always in great condition. Great staff. Can't beat the deal.
Nice spot with very comfortable feel
First time n the course. Very nice condition even after 3-days of rain. Lots of elevation changes (Billy goat layout) even with treelined format. Plenty of room in the fairways from the White (Iii) tees. It'd be tough from the tip (I) tee. Greens were manicured and reasonable reads, true. Enjoyed the round. Recommend, especially at their afternoon rate. C
Great value for the price!
Had the privilege of playing Cider Ridge on a Monday afternoon with practically no one on the course. The front nine was closed all morning due to maintenance on the greens but I was the first to play them in the afternoon. Due to the greens condition on the front nine I had to give them four stars overall for condition but the back nine was miraculous and made up for it. Would definitely recommend playing here and I'm looking forward to coming back in the fall when the trees start changing colors - I bet it looks amazing with the scenery around the course.
Awesome Course !!!!
This is an awesome course. I have played this course 2 times now and it gets better every time. The layout of the holes and the blind fairways are amazing. My favorite hole is number 10 what an Amazing view. Can't wait until we can get back there in the fall. Also, the course has a great practice area to warm up. See you guys soon!!!! Makes a big difference when you can warm up before you tee up on the first hole.
Beautiful Course, Friendly Staff, & All around great course
This was my first experience here at cider ridge, & This is a true Gem! Great layout, course was forgiving yet challenging for all levels of golfers. Not a burnt spot on the greens & that speaks volumes givin they are rolling bent grass greens in such heat. Perfectly manicured from tee box to green. Will defiantly be back!!
Worth the Drive
First time to play here; very much worth the drive from Birmingham. Front nine is pretty straightforward, not too penal if you miss the fairway off the tee, except for the thick Bermuda rough. Back nine only more difficult than front due to sloping fairways; so if you don't keep your drive close to the middle of the fairway, then there's a good chance it will roll into the rough, woods, water, etc. The quality of the course makes a good score attainable, so I look forward to visiting again to shave off a few strokes.
