Quail Ridge Golf Club

About
Quail Ridge Golf Club sprawls across 300 acres of rolling hills just east of Grand Rapids. The expansive course provides plenty of room on each hole. Raymond Hearn, a Michigan native, designed the unique layout, seamlessly combining links-style holes and tree-lined holes for variety. The golf course is challenging with strategically placed bunkers and elevation changes coming into play but they are balanced by more player-friendly elements including generous fairways and ample landing areas. Water doesn't have a particularly prominent role but the high fescue that borders the fairways offer plenty of challenges. Quail Ridge Golf Club's greens are large and undulating, with one of the best examples being on the 17th. The green on this par 3 has two tiers that differ dramatically in elevation and neither tier is very visible from the tee, making pin placement extremely important.

Top notch course in Grand Rapids
If you like perfect greens, secluded holes, and a convenient location, you should check out Quail Ridge. This course is in my top 5 favorite courses, right up there with Pilgrims Run, Harbor Shores, and Stonegate. If you enjoy any of those courses and haven't played Quail Ridge, you're missing out!
It's hard for me to say anything negative about one of my favorite courses, but Quail does have one feature that I don't love. The first two par 5s are point and shoot golf. I don't want to complain too much, but when an architect forces you to play a par 5 as a three shot hole, it takes a little fun out of the game. I wouldn't mind if there was just one of those forced 3 shotters, but there are TWO!
Regardless of that, I love the course. The greens are phenomenal and the course is always maintained very well.
Fast greens
Great course for any level player, large greens that are fast but playable, great layout. two large practice greens and descent size range. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Good 19th hole..
Good course/great price
Course was in good condition, pace of play was good and better than other times. Normal rate is too high in my opinion but the golf now rate we received was great.
Fun track
Great course and in good shape for early season
I can only imagine how pretty it will be when in full bloom.
Really nice layout and greens are a good challenge.
Great Course
I have played there when dry and in good condition and it is a very nice course. The quality is down a little bit right now because it is early and because it was very wet but I highly recommend in the summer. The pace of play is probably the one thing I would change if I could. Other than that it is great quality. Just a bit pricey.
Early in the Season
Being early in the 2017 season, the course was not in the best shape. Greens and fairways were in fair condition and the bunkers were generally in poor condition. The course was also very wet and cart path only made the pace of play extremely slow. Overall value was pretty good, however.
Wet as a dog in the river
Staff in the pro-shop nearly ignored me while I was paying for my round. They were too busy talking to others in the shop while waiting on me. Didn't even register to them that I had asked what direction the first Tee was. Proceeded to load my clubs onto my cart and figured it out from the course map.
Course conditions were extremely WET on many holes and the course is clearly lacking drainage. Nearly every step resulted in a puddle surrounding your foot. Well placed tee shots frequently were buried 3/4 of the ball into the fairway.
Pace of play was slow. On some par 5's you could see a group on the green, another group waiting to shoot their approach, and 1 group in the landing zone off the tee.
It was nice to play Quail Ridge in March. The course was wet as one would expect this time of year. Cartpath only so expect to walk a lot. Overall a fun experience.
EARLY Spring Conditions Not too shabby
The course was packed for one day before spring. Called to make a tee time and was told didn't need one since I was solo, but found out that it would have been neccessary as I had to chase many foursomes.
The course was a little wet, which is understandable for the given time of the year. Fairways were WIDE and very forgiving with Generous landing areas off the tee. The greens were smooth and rolled true. The one feature I'd like to see in the prime season is the sod-faced bunkers that are scattered throughout. A very nice touch.
Overall a good value and a solid layout that covers a good amount of acreage. I'll definitely return to play in the summer, but not when its so busy.
POOR
I have play Quail many time. I have not seen such poor conditions, I have not seen anything like it anywhere and we play many courses.
Word to the Wise
I've played Quail Ridge I think 5 times now, and until today, I've always thoroughly enjoyed this course. Great layout, fun, and challenging for all skill levels. That being said, my experience at Quail Ridge today was easily one of the worst golf experience I've ever had. I've read a lot of reviews for QR recently, and many of them mention very slow pace of play. That was painfully understated today. My father and I had a 2:15 tee time. When we finally walked off the 18th green, it was 7:45. Five and a half hours for two people to play 18 holes of golf is outrageous. Now I didn't mention that there was an outing today, and of course, with outings, play is obviously going to be slower than normal. That being said, if the company or group putting on the outing isnt required to rent out the course, and others are still able to make tee times during the outing, then you absolutely have to have a ranger on the course ensuring somewhat of a consistent pace. Not a single ranger in sight however. I also had the privilege of playing behind a foursome that brought a 7-10 year boy with them, who was allowed to hit his ball about 20 yards on each shot, chase after it, and hit it again, about 12 times on each hole. Finally, what I consider to be the worst component of the round today, was the fact that every single green resembled the surface of the moon. Literally 25-50 crater-like ball marks on each green, which made the toughest area of my game virtually impossible. So, just a word to the wise, if you plan to book a tee time for Quail Ridge on the weekend, do yourself a favor and ensure that they do not have an outing that day, as they take absolutely no control over the event
Very slow pace. Overbooked
We were forced to tee off more than 15 minutes past our reserved tee time. A 5+ hour round. I have avoided playing here due to slow play in the past, it will be a long time before I return. The course is very good, but is always overcrowded and slow
Great Course
Great price for this course
The only negative was we had some slow players in front of us but you will get that on a public course on the weekends once in awhile.
Overall a great Sunday afternoon
Great layout but slow.
Great Ray Hearn design. Pace was slow 5 hours, but price was good 32 bucks. Greens seemed nice, but tons of unfixed ballmarks. Come on people, fix em.
Great experience
I found course to be in very good shape. Greens putted true with no unreasonable pin locations. Layout of course is both beautiful and a fair test for the weekend golfer. I definitely will come back again and again. A real fan
Wet
Course was wet by not their fault. Short but challenging course.
Behind a none golfer outing.
Great course, bad management. Just shy of 5hrs. To get through 14 holes. Outing of none golfers in an afternoon we teed up at 1:38. Not a ranger in sight. Cart thought it was funny. Sad.

if it took you 5 hours...you should quit golfing!
This review is very disheartening to say the least. We take a lot of pride as do many of our most loyal guests in our outstanding course conditions. We'd love to hear directly from you regarding what specific conditions you found poor. As for the review every golfer has their own standards of conditioning and we've received many more positive than negative and will continue to provide the standards we have into the future. If these do not meet your standards we can only hope that someday you can revisit and give us another try.
