Top Shelf Course
Iron Valley is a well designed, challenging course. There are lots of water hazards, elevation changes, and every hole is different. This course will tax all of your shot skills and course management ability. Staff was friendly and, accommodating. Its one of the courses we really look forward to playing.
great challenge
Played on 7/13 with 3 other strong players from the tips. Iron Valley is a great mixture of holes that tests your entire game. You need to play it a few times to know where to get away with your misses. The devilish par 3 island green hole #5 is only 122 yds, but plays into a breeze and I was the only one to not hit into the water. The green there is tiny and a tough target even if there was no wind. There are 4 par 5 holes that are winding with big elevation changes and the key shot on each hole is your layup shot. Scenery on the 1st and 10th holes is magical and makes you want to come back over and over. The clubhouse is nice and the practice area is also nice. My only negative comment was the greens were a bit inconsistent and some were spongy but was told they may have been holding back due to high heat.. The value here is awesome for a course of this caliber and I played for 20 dollars including cart thanks to Golf Now.
Really good course. Nicely maintained and good variety.
First time there and I found it really enjoyable. Good variety of design, traps all raked even with the thunderstorms the night prior, greens ran true, good variety of tee boxes. Some holes were tight with trees and others wide open. Several blind shots that I guessed wrong but that happens when playing a first time course.
Truly a nice course, and near the top for all of central Pennsylvania. I'll play it again.
Great Course
Course was perfect despite the windy day. Fairways were in great shape, greens were awesome as well. Staff was very friendly.
Great Course BUT.....
Had a grand experience at the course, first had no pressure in front or behind so pace was excellent. Then we hit the 4th hole and a pit bull appeared. So we were a little apprehensive. Then it follows us to the 5th hole and scares us by charging at us then jumping in the water to harass the geese. So we picked up and moved asap.
Great golf until the 15th hole when the pit bull appears again. It starts running full speed just in front of us then veers off us to attack a baby goose. It tears that baby apart. Then a worker appears and starts calling us out about yelling at his dog. When we expressed our displeasure about his dog, he starts coming at us like he wanted to fight. We just told him he better back down. Cause we would of defended ourselves. I called course manager but he was too busy to talk. We left our names and numbers but still have not heard from Derek Baker, the head pro.
I will not go back to course if a pit bull is left unleashed and no collar to run free on the course and harass the paying customers. Let alone getting into it with an employee who should not have his dog on the job. Was totally wrong
pete dye and co.
diabolical - P.B. Dye designed course is a must play if in central PA. hills and uneven lies await. green putted very nice. lots of character. consider taking jack's advice and playing one tee box up from your normal.
Challenging and Fun to play
This is a challenging but fun course to play.
Expect a lot of elevation changes, hazards and tiered greens.
In my opinion this course is in the top 5 in central PA.
My only complaint this last time was the hole placement was very difficult especially considering it is the beginning of the season.
What a great course!
If you haven't played here yet, put it on your bucket list it is a must-play. My golf buddies and I drive over an hour and a half to play here at least twice a year because it's such a great course. For the upper level course that it is, it is not an expensive round and you can usually find a great deal on golf now. The conditions are always stellar and so are some of the views especially the first hole. One word of advice, make sure you play the proper tee box. It's only 6300 from the Blues but it is sloped at 135. Which I think is a little bit low. Should be around 138.
Beautiful Course
Great challenge, did average, celebrate my good shots. could have pl;ayed 18 for the price, but had to go back to work! Beautiful course!
Prepare before you play
Ensure you get a good warm up in first, with both fairway woods and chips, you''ll need plenty of both. Club selection is a must and a driver is not the best club off many of thd tees. Green side shots require thought as the greens afe fast, and greensides can be drastically hilly.
Great challange and fun!
2nd time for me. First time for my son - a college player. My son stated he would play this golf course all the time if closer to our home. Great challenge. Conditions were very good. Number 13 is a little tricky. Take a look at the tee shot before playing the hole. It had been 15 years since I had played it. Conditions improved in 15 years. Please play it soon. You will not be disappointed.
Getting better than last year
Course is improving this year. Last year natural areas were clear cut and it looked horrible. Still too much standing water from over watering in some low lying fairways. Greens are really good.
Challenge accepted
The first time we played the course this year, it kicked our butts. We did much better this time around, scoring in the mid 80's. Great challenging course, very nice scenery. Love it. Thanks
Great challenge
First time playing this course and I was pleasantly surprised. Great area to warm up. Found the course with a lot of blind shots. Wish I knew the hole layout before teeing it up on some holes. Had a great time even though i didn't play well?
HORRIBLE Pace of Play
We had contacted them 2 weeks in advance and they gave us a tee time immediately following a high school golf tournament. At numerous times there were THREE groups just standing on a tee BUT yet, no ranger!!! Total time was 5:20 minutes. I typically like playing there but the fact that they didn't warn us and made no effort to address pace of play left a very sour taste in my mouth.
Iron Valley
I came from Baltimore MD. to play it, well worth the drive. Beautiful views and a challenging layout. Loved it.
Love the layout and course conditions
I love the contrasting front and back nine layouts.
Great course
Staff was great, starter picked you up at your car. The front 9 was more forgiving and the back 9 made you think a little more. Stay out of the junk and you will be fine (unlike me) loss of strokes due to lost balls kept me from shooting the score I wanted too. All and all it was a great course and I will definitely play it again.
A fun course
Excellent PB Dye design. Great course in really enjoyed playing it. I liked the front 9 the most, but enjoyed the back 9 as well.
