Great layout
Played this course with my son. Will definitely return, although I didn't play well. The course was challenging, but I believe I would play much better now having played it once. There were a lot of holes that required accurate positioning off the tee, and we were unsure as to the landing area. Views were incredible. Front and back 9 were very different, but both were enjoyable. I look forward to returning. Price on Golf Now was not substantially better than what the course offered online, so if you want to play here - and you should, check the course website.
Bring your A game
This was the second time playing the course. The first as a single I followed a threesome who wouldn't allow the starter to pair us up. It was a long and frustrating morning as the threesome refused to let me play thru- I ended up jumping them at the turn, but the day left a bad taste.
I went back on a hot, muggy August morning and was paired with a twosome and another single. It was great company.
The course? Well driving is VERY tight and challenging. Greens were hard so a high shot or lots of spin needed to hold your landing. They were good speed and condition. Players take good care of green, fairway and tee box divits - nice to see.
Thu the course beat me up pretty good I will go back and attempt some "course revenge"!!
Do try to walk
Do not try walking this course unless you are ready to go up huge hills. I had a cart , and seemed to struggle at times.( I'm only 150lbs) . Very fun. Hard. Very well kept. I WILL!!!!! be back...
Wow
Fantastic golf course, a tough but thrilling test of golf well worth the trip. Links style golf on the front nine ,hilly and cut through woods on the back nine. Some tremendous views to be had as well. I can't wait to go back.
Great Layout
This course has two completely different 9's. Front side is links and back 9 is more conventional.
Pay close attention to the tee boxes because they were definitely not as planned on the scorecard. My son plays the blacks and the rest of us played the blues. The blues played more like the blacks and there weren't any black tee markers. Course was wet and played long. Greens were average speed but don't be above the hole.
Course was in great shape and would highly recommend this course.
Incredible course to play
I always love playing this course. Many of the fairways are uneven, so I get plenty of practice on side hill lies. The greens are in excellent shape. There's been lots of rain, then plenty of sun. Everything is green, it wasn't crowded and the starters were very friendly. I played an extra 9 holes, but they only have a 18 hole replay fee, not a nine hole replay fee. However, the restaurant burnt the end of the hotdogs!
Two nine hole courses
This course plays completely different on the front and back nines. Pace of play on a busy Saturday was average- about 5hrs for our group of 3. Worth playing once, but not a course I would go out of my way to play again which is disappointing considering how much I was looking forward to playing here.
great course if...
If they made this course a par 70 and turned two of the worst par fives I have ever played into par fours it would be a tremendous course. You'll know which ones I mean when you play them. The greens on the course were inconsistent and not reflective of the speed on the practice green. I would play the course again but probably just once a year.
I Wanted to Play a Second Round!
If the test of a great golf course is how much you want to play it again, then Iron Valley earns five stars! The course absolutely beat me up, yet I wanted to play a second round after lunch!
P.B. Dye used the naturally hilly terrain and the pits and tailings left behind by a revolutionary war-era iron mining industry to create 18 intriguing golf holes with lots of ups and downs. Take a cart; this course would be a monster to walk! The front nine is advertised as links style, and the back nine as a parkland layout. The front nine is more open with a spectacular view of the Lebanon Valley from the 1st green, but I really didn't get the sense of being in Scotland.
Playing from the gold tees (I am 76 years old after all), I could reach almost all of the greens with a fairly high-lofted iron. That's important because trouble lurks around many of them, and being close to the cup eliminates long putts over the undulating and relatively fast putting surfaces. Fairways are wide enough for most golfers to keep on the short grass.
This is a course that would challenge a long-hitting low handicapper from the back tees, yet offers seniors and ladies an extremely satisfying round from the forward tees. Pace of play on this Thursday morning was outstanding.
Off-course amenities are good. You can get a very good lunch upstairs, inside or on the outdoor patio.
Iron Valley is one of the courses on the Raspberry Golf Trail (www.raspberrygolftrail.com).
Golf now ?
I was not disappointed in the course I just couldn't believe we went through golf now and when we got to the course the price was the same the published rate and the graph now price totally unfair will think again before using golf now
MUST play again
I've played Iron Valley a few years ago and loved it. This time it was even better. The course matured some but the staff is as good as ever. With the choice of tee boxes you can make this challenging course even harder if you like. The course took advantage of the natural terrain. Fair but you better be accurate.
Fun city, little pricey; but can't go wrong on a Pete Dye layout
Beautiful layout, many elevation changes, excellent course conditions, use yardage book or App to figure your shots. Call they book up sometimes. Pete Dye excels in trying to make every hole unique, enjoy it. In a class with Penn National, Gettysburg Links, Heritage Hills, Springwood, Dauphin Highlands, and the Bridges. Little drive through the woods to find it, don't miss the turn!
Are You Kidding Me?
This is as good as it gets! Perfect Fall weather and we played from the blues on this beautiful course. Speed of play was fine and the course was well manicured and challenging but very fair.
Challenging layout
Many difficult hidden landing areas. The course was in great shape and it was a perfect fall day.
Some course maintenance was going on and the staff was not very accommodating to the golfers when working on a hole you were playing.
Best Course in Lebanon County
Simply put....this is an excellent course. It was in great shape this weekend. I always enjoy playing here.
Wish I lived closer
Everything about this course is excellent. Pleasently greeted when we arrived at the bag drop and again in the pro shop and also by the starter. They know what customer service is all about. The course was in excellent shape from tee to green. One tip do not go above the cup. The two nines are completely different which was very enjoyable. Since they have 10 minute tee times the pace of play was tremendous. I will be back again when I am in the area.
Iron Valley
Beautiful course and views from it. Extremely hard course. Lots of elevation changes and blind shots. I had a terrible time, partly because my drives were not on point that day. Well maintained, fast greens, fairways had drainage issues in some spots. I would only recommend this course to people with low handicaps. It's hard.
Very scenic, great facility.
Two different nines.one wooded the other open. Always enjoy playing here!
ok
The greens should be better for the money they charge. pace of play could be better.
Great Course-Great Day!
The weather was great. The course was in excellent condition. We have played here several times and the staff is always friendly and courteous. The two nines are different and both are challenging, but fun.
Typically the rate on Iron Valley website is cheaper or equal!
It seems the reviewer is reviewing GolfNow, not the course. Not that helpful.
