Rude staff, and over priced
The course is nice but when you pay 30$ on golf now to play 18 and you get there and they say you can only play 9 it is really annoying. golf-now deal said 18 holes riding and they said we could only play 9 because they were fixing there greens. i was okay with that except they said we still had to pay the 30$ and the golf now fee totaling nearly 35$ a person for 9 holes at 4:00 P.M. on a week night i don't think so.... staff was very rude and did not work with us at all. i will never play there again just because of there attitude toward us. i played there multiple times before and was never treated with respect.
Iron Valley Review #01
Severe elevation changes, small greens, uneven lies even in the fairway, variety of hazards abound; water, rocks, sand, rough.
Gorgeous scenery
Love it every time we play it. Quarry nine & woodsy
nine. Cannot wait to go back soon.
Friday afternoon perfect day!
Course is nice. Greens were in good repair and traps were ok too. Would play again!
Best value
Terrific course good condition friendly staff, good job
Nice course with very bad time control!
The course is always in good shape! Played there three times this year, but every round has been 5 hours. Not sure why people can't play faster here. Rangers finally came out on the 14 th hole to apologize for so play. Wish they would have started paying attention earlier. Not sure I'm driving a hour to play a 5 hour round again! Shame it is a really a nice course!
incredible challenge
Its been quite some time since I took the trip from Philly to Iron Valley to play.. The weather was fantastic and kind of breezy for this time of year. Then again, Iron Valley sits up on a mountainside and you can expect wind there.. The 9's have been reversed since I last played .
From a beauty and difficulty standpoint, Iron Valley is at the top of public courses in PA.. The holes go uphill and downhill with as many heroic shots as you can ever imagine.. The 1st hole green sits up on a huge perch above the valley below and the views are remarkable. Its the #1 handicap hole and the approach shot to the back pin placement was extremely difficult. I would suspect many people are starting off their round with a double or triple bogey on the first hole due to its very demanding uphill nature.
The par 5's on Iron Valley are incredibly tight and tricky and must be played conservatively... You can pile up huge scores on these holes if you do not lay up your 2nd shot wisely..
The island green hole is the 5th hole and on this day played 125 yds into a swirling wind.. If you want to envision what its like to play TPC Sawgrass 17th hole, this may be the closest thing you will see to that hole in this area... The green is tiny and there is no bailout anywhere.. Its either on the green or its a lost ball..
The conditioning of the course needs to be upgraded some.. The greens were slower than they should be for such an upscale course.. The tees and fairways were in fine condition..
All in all, Iron Valley is a delight and a unique place to play... For the good player, if you break 80 here, you've done a great job... Its real easy to throw in a few real bad holes here that can destroy your score and that is the greatest challenge to avoid those.
Its only a 75 min ride from Philly and more Philly golfers should make the trip to Iron Valley and see a fantastic course and sight for the eyes..
Challenging but score-able with smart play
Easily my favorite course in Lebanon county. Very challenging course but chances are there, just have to pick your spots. Certainly not a grip and rip course, I pull driver probably 2 times here all day. Greens and fairways in good shape. As everywhere else, pace of play always seems to be an issue. I understand taking your time and making your shot but waiting for a pairing to get off a par 5 green 280 yards in front of you before taking your second shot is absurd! Tough course to walk, however there is drinking water on the course so you don't have to worry about the extra weight of 5 water bottles.
Beautiful views
A fun course with a lot of history. Course management a must! Staff very friendly and knowledgeable. Will return for sure.
Good Day
Good condition
Was not pushed through the course
I would play there again
Must play
Very challenging. Top priority is the course. One of the best courses in PA.
Excellent course!
Course is in excellent condition with two diverse 9 holes and great views! The fairways and greens are in excellent condition! The Club house has a diverse menu!
Enjoyable course
Played the course Friday and decided to return Monday. It is a very nice course with challenging holes and greens. The pace of play goes from a 2 hour front to a 3-hour back due to the design of the course.
Stay away from here as a single!
Made my tee time for 8:30... Got there and was told I would tee off on time. Putted for 5 minutes and came back to my cart to over hear the starter say he was pairing me with another group that had someone not show. I waited for him to tell me but no, why would he do that. So finally I asked if i should go to the tee because I didnt see the other 3 people from my group. He then says no I got you going out at 8:50 now. I wasnt happy about this as I made the time I made because thats what I wanted. So I asked if I could hit balls then since my time was changed without my asking and against my wishes. "Oh yea sure you can pay for them in the clubhouse" REALLY?
So I waited. Teed off on time behind 2 other foursomes now. I was not impressed by the course. Fairways were a mess. Greens were furry and slow. Sight lines left something to be desired. The island green is not appealing to the eye. This is a dog track in my opinion. Save your money on this one. Play a private club that offers afternoon times on here. I played 9 and left! I will never return here!
The course is well designed.
It was the first time I have played the course of over 10 years and it was in great shape. The staff was very friendly as well.
I certainly will play it again.
Challenging
Very challenging course. Was in great shape with the exception of the bunkers. Unfortunately I was in a few and I took them as unplayable and dropped outside of them. I realize there was a huge storm the night before, but the condition of the bunkers should have been communicated to the patrons. Even though I didn't score very well, I enjoy playing Iron Valley. The diversity of the course between the two different nines, is very challenging.
Will defintely be back.
A true golfing challenge
The staff was very very friendly and helpful. They kept playing moving at a steady rate with no delays. The course was in very good condition for The staff was very very friendly and helpful. They kept playing moving at a steady rate with no delays. The course was in very good condition for Afternoon play. Greens were a little slow, but that can be expected for the afternoon. Beautiful fairways. Beautiful scenic golf course . A must play!
This is an extremely well maintained course
Great course! Both fun to play and challenging. Course is extremely well maintained and the staff is both friendly and helpful!
Great course but slow play
Loved the course, but with difficulty comes slow play. 5hr Rather full for a weekday at 1:40 tee time.
One of the most scenic and challenging courses in the area.
Iron Valley is my favorite public course in South Central PA. The natural scenery is gorgeous; the surreality added to the landscape by its former use as an iron ore mine is eerily calm. From the tips, it is quite difficult. From the white tees (about 6000 yds.), it still feels challenging, but a 10 Index player can break 80 occasionally. Plenty of grass on the driving range, and the restaurant is first-class, with a great view. The only downside is, you'll have to bring plenty of bug spray.
