Excellent course
For March, the conditions here were about as good as you could expect, course was not wet even though most courses are soaked and still closed. Greens were slow, with plenty of aerating holes still present, but its March.
I really like the layout here, it varies and offers variety of tests. A few groups were in front of us were all playing the longer sets of tees, and consequently I saw a bit of struggling. Its early in year, so we played the silver (between white and blue), and played well, and got to use a lot of different irons and see different yardages instead of having to go with hybrids and longer clubs on every second shot. I wish this course was about 20 minutes closer, I would go there all the time.
Someday maybe I will visit the nice bar/restaurant while here, or the range. Finally, there is a hotel right in front of the clubhouse, so it would be a good place to stay and play some rounds.
Slow Play Deters From Great Course
Great layout. Unfortunately every time I play there are never any Staff to speed up play. This is a hard course and a lot of people play tees that are too long for them. It would be a lot more enjoyable if they would monitor the carts for speed of play and the course would make more money because they would turn more people. Great course for a reasonable cost.
Was not expecting a resort like course in the Youngstown area. GOLFADVISOR course name only has 1 N also.
Overall, the course gives you a lot to think about on tee shots, with tee boxes that make you think about where to play ball or how much to take on, and with plenty of bunkers out there. However, the hardest shot was the second into the green. Conditions were good for the season, all of the water areas around many holes were empty now due to lack of rain. The greens however were wet, and had a lot of ball marks, and were somewhat bumpy, which was surprising based on the overall conditions. I will give them a pass, and after playing Sunday 9/24 already am scheduled to return. It is worth the 1 hour drive. The only problem I had was the GPS units did not show us anything, maybe it was a malfunction, but the only thing visible was our cart location on the entire course, I would have expected it to show distance to other carts, etc.
Tough Day
I signed my son, brother-in-law, and myself to play Saturday afternoon. We assumed that it would be a good time for a solid round. We couldn't have been more wrong. We have never played where the pace of play was so slow! We were also a little disappointed in the conditions - especially the greens. We found out that we were behind an outing where some fellas were "ignorantly slow". The staff offered a rain check but we stubbornly stuck it out.
Nice course with a Country Club feel
It is a good to very good course. The staff was very friendly to my son and I. The course has a few unique holes that provide some interesting challenges. We will have to make a point to play it again.
Kensington golf course canfield Ohio
The worst course I have ever played. It is all cut up! Hole 1 has sand traps right in the middle of the fairway. Hole 2 and others have ravines in the middle of Hills with no warning of them. There was not enough land here for a golf course but someone built one anyway.
First and last time ever to play this collision course mess!!! I can't believe anyone plays here. I have gilded across the country and this is the absolute worst course I have ever played. We left after home number 7. Don't waste your money!!
It has it all
Nicely laid out...sand water hills trees nice greens...what else could you ask for....maybe faster play...
But the course was great...staff was friendly. .I'll play there again!
Ball placement left and right on drives is key.
This course is one you need to get familiar with.
Aiming for center fairway on drives will leave you scrambling on your approach shot. There are a couple par 3's that will excite you. The greens play relatively fast, with challenging undulations. The course length is respectable. Some fairways were dry, throwing off my iron shot.
A sensible value for a mediocre course.
Kensington Great Course
It was a beautiful day on a well manicured course. Everything about the course is magnificent.
I have been playing this course for years. It is a beautiful layout. Unfortunately the greens were the worst I've seen . They were actually aeriating the greens while we were playing and had to wait in the fairway for 6 minutes until they finished. They must have had a bunch of rain. Some water damage in some of the fairways. Course is still worth the trip. Great 19 th hole.
Probably the best layout out of all public golf courses in the Youngstown/Warren area. I did not find the conditions to be as bad as many just a few chewed up tee boxes but the fairways and greens seemed to be in solid shape.
One of the best designed courses in the area, great layout
This was the first time playing this course, it was well worth the drive from the Akron area. Really easy to get to the course from the highway.
The design of this course is awesome, lots of options to get around this course. Holes play around several creeks, ravines, lakes, and hills. The course has a lot of width, and the greens are huge. The holes are surrounded by tall mature trees, several tee shot use the trees to help your aim off the tee. A great mix of par 4s and a five gorgeous and playable par 3s. Local architect Brian Huntley, created another incredible course for Northeast Ohio.
I played early in the morning, 7:30 tee time, several groups were in front of me, we got around 18 holes in 4 hours. The front nine was a little slower than the back. Not and ideal course of novice and beginner golfs. The course looks like it gets a ton of play, and the players don't help maintain the course for fellow players. The par three tee boxes had more divots than I have ever seen on a course. The greens had ball marks all over the place. Every putt over 30 feet seemed to have an unfixed mark in the line. Other than that, the fairways were good, the did not find an wet spots or bare grass in the fairways (complaints I had heard about).
Potential not realized....disappointed.
I keep hoping that the conditions of this course will improve as promised. The layout is awesome -- the fairways and greens are not. Every single green is pockmarked by ball marks; evidently repair tools are forbidden. In addition, the wash-outs that run across many of the fairways are puzzling as growing grass here in Mahoning Co is not that difficult. I am disappointed each time I play at Kennsington. As you might conclude, I wonder why I go back. I wonder why I pay almost $50 for a round here. I also wonder why the starter sent out a five-some on number 10 in front of my three-some as we were driving up to the ninth green? There is a lot this course could do better with just a little bit of effort. Instead of golfing here, spend $32 at one of the two Donald Ross-designed courses 1.5 miles down the road at Mill Creek Park
Not bad for the hot deal price
This was our first time playing this course. Overall, the layout was nice, some holes were challenging. The condition of the course was fair to poor, although, it was the spring, had been raining and was cart path only. I would not have been happy at all if we had paid full price.
Slowest course around
The last time we played there it took 5 1/2 hours. The starter told us then to come after 3 o'clock because it is wide open then. We had a t tee time for 305 and they let a group of 20 people replay in front of us. We started 30 minutes late and it took 2 1/2 hours for the front nine. The course has a great layout but if you're going to play there plan on spending six hours because that's the average time it takes to play here.
Needs fairway help
Layout was challenging and required strategy from black tees , which I love. I know it is mid April but fairways were in bad shape , didn't appear that they could signifanctly recover as we advance through spring . Greens were not rolling great in comparison to other courses I've played this spring , but were ok.
Your are very correct. Kennsington is a great track to play. It's very challenging and from what I have seen a majority of the players are on the wrong tee boxes. It seems to be more troublesome later in the round. Plan for a 5 hour round on the weekend.
