Avon Fields Golf Course
About
Avon Fields Golf Course is one of the older golf courses in Cincinnati, where it sits on picturesque land that rolls along fairways lined with trees - and it's easily accessible to downtown. The golf course provides tests and good times for golfers at all levels, with elevated and diminutive greens for those who like to play short golf, as well as those who need more practice at it (for those who need more practice in general, the Jimmy Woods Learning Center is onsite).
Avon Fields Golf Course provides 18 holes of par-67 golf over 5,081 yards. Tee off on a par 4 that plays to 369 yards. The course is short compared with megacourses being built elsewhere nowadays: About a third of the holes come in at under 200 yards, even from the Blue tees, while only the fourth hole, the lone par-5 hole, stretches to over 400 yards from the Blue tees.
As the Avon Fields Golf Course is a municipal golf course, expect affordable green fees, and those who can swing a round of golf during the workweek can expect them to be even lower.

Avoid Avon Fields If You Are Looking to Enjoy Yourself Playing Golf
I'll start by saying I like the course. It's extremely convenient for anyone living close to downtown, decently priced, and provides a good challenge despite being one of the shorter courses in the area.
In fact, it's one of the oldest courses west of the Alleghenies. Unfortunately, it's also one of the worst-run.
The course is usually in okay-ish shape for the price and is especially great for beginners and for people who like to practice irons...
Where Avon is lacking is in every other facet of the golf experience. The management is rude, the pace of play is brutally slow and I have had MANY negative experiences here over the last few years.
Each time, I say I'm not going back. But inevitably I find myself back for the convenience factor, and inevitably (and remarkably) I end up having another bad experience.
I've been golfing since I was roughly 10 years old at hundreds of courses and this is the only one where I am routinely hassled and treated as an inconvenience.
After the last round I played there, I will DEFINITELY not be returning. I booked 18 and was told I could not finish because leagues were teeing off as I was making the turn (despite the group in front of us making the turn ahead of leagues).
This has happened multiple times in addition to having multiple rounds cut short because management arbitrarily decides when the course closes for the evening -- whether it's dark or not, they tell you they will lock your car in and have it towed. In late December on a rare nice day, I had a round cut short due to "darkness" and was given two 9-hole gift cards for my trouble... that expired Dec. 31. Pretty "generous" to give a courtesy round I only had a couple of weeks to use when it's generally not golfing weather.
They also enjoy blaming Golf Now for their lack of ability to manage tee times and the pace of play on the course. I have been told repeatedly that Golf Now creates magic tee times during tournaments and when they are closed. Last time, they said it's happened dozens of times this year already. You'd think they'd figure it out instead of blaming the golfer for booking a tee time and choosing to spend money and time at the course... but it's never management's fault, it's always the golfer or Golf Now's.
Last round, my playing partner and I were threatened with police presence after suggesting we would happily play the nine we paid for by just going to No. 11 or playing the front again... we were told we could wait until 7 p.m. or that the police would be called if we attempted to play the round we paid for... quality customer service, as usual.
It's not just me, read other reviews. I have experienced/witnessed management hassling and borderline harassing golfers, people at the driving range and many other golfers on the course over the years.
Anyway, it's a shame. If this course was better managed, it would be a real gem within the CRC umbrella. Unfortunately, it is not. Avoid at all costs.
Good value
This course was a good value for the money. The course was I good shape as well.
Simple but enjoyable
The course is simple but enjoyable. It has rained a lot the previous day so they had us play the back 9 twice to protect the front. I prefer this than damaging the course, good responsible management.
Nice course
I try to play Avon once a week it’s a nice course to play.
Relaxed sunday
You could tell it was the lords day. Everyone was slacking off. No food and beverage person, no pace of play kept at all. Not really surprising just worth mentioning
Great little course
Course was great shape for a public course and got it for great price it is short course but still challenging only complaint is grounds crew members are very very rude one actually cussed me and another group that did same right after us for not seeing there sign that was way up the fairway on par four that said “ cart path only “.pro shop attendants were great I would definitely play again
Triple booking
Always nice to start your round with a 30 minute wait on the tee box & 6 groups behind you watching you tee off. This place has the worst management of any course in the area. Pace of play is an absolute joke. Course was in very average condition. Would be a fun course to play if you didn’t have to wait 15 minutes before each shot on every hole. Maybe learn how to manage tee times so the people who visit your course can actually enjoy themselves.
Home course
I consider this my home course playing at this course for many years now always has been one of my favorites.
Great When Course is in Better Shape
This is a nice, moderately difficult course with a good layout. However, it is not a true regulation course (par 66 with no par 5 holes). The staff is very pleasant and there are frequently good deals. Right now, the fairways are not in great shape, but that will hopefully improve through the spring.
Public course that is pretty good
This is a fun cheap course. Don’t expect fancy or any amenities, but a nice layout and good time.
Trees man.
The trees were everywhere. The ground team dropped one in the fairway as we pulled up to the tee box and then left. On 17 the tree fell onto the green. Nothing like hitting it into the woods 7 feet from the pin.
Hilly course with great greens
Played during the off season and had the course to myself. After I finished my round, I was shocked others were not playing. I am a huge fan of Bill Langford courses and this does not disappoint. It has Langfords large built up greens and couple that with a very hilly site and you get a fun quirky course.
The course is short, but I counted at least 6 holes with abandoned back tees. Do not let the yardage deter you, there is still plenty of course to enjoy!
