About
Nestled in a quiet residential community, Shale Creek Golf Club sprawls across land that for a century prior had been the Gunkelman Farm. The course repurposes the rolling terrain into a challenging layout. The subtle changes in elevation make for some tricky lies. There are also many streams that meander through the golf course before cascading into the nearby Rocky River. The river even comes into play from the 10th to the 15th holes. The golf course features large, undulating greens and wide fairways. Water has a dominant presence on the course but the final holes showcase more traditional Ohio terrain with wooded, gently rolling hills though you'll still have plenty of water to contend with on these holes. Shale Creek Golf Club requires accuracy and it will make you think, but it's not too difficult for a beginner to enjoy.

Country Club Feel
The course was in great shape and proved to be a challenging round from the tips. I was pleased with the pace. The course was plenty busy, but it was evident that the tee times were appropriately spaced out and running on-time. It’s not common on a lot of public courses to have free time at the range prior to teeing off, and that was a nice little perk that goes a long way in my book. It’s apparent that Shale Creek values professionalism and aims to provide a “Private Country Club” like atmosphere to everyone in attendance.

Not worth more than $25
This is supposed to be an upscale course - used to be co-owned with Quarry in canton. The layout is OK, greens are OK but for this money play Pine Hills or for much less Pleasant Valley. Both have much better layout and conditions (Pine Hills). Quarry is possibly the best course in Ohio and the senior rate is $30. The senior rate here is $49!
What bugged me particularly was a 4-some that we caught on the seventh hole and then got stuck forever. They had many options to let us through but did not even acknowledge. I contacted the clubhouse thru G Now and received zero help. We were told that the 4 some were "43 minutes ahead of schedule". Lets think this thru. We caught them on the seventh hole so they must have started at least 1 hour 45 minutes before us. That makes it 10::15. We finished at 4:10 pm. They finished at 4 pm. Do the math!
A course like this needs to invest in a ranger. There are many outstanding courses nearby where golfers have common etiquette. Play Brookledge or Fox Den

Overrated Golf Course
$31.35 for 9 holes is ridiculous, particularly when theclub house staff is less than helpful and the greens are scuffed and beaten up pretty badly.

Too Pricey for the condition of the course
Traps not good. Greens not recovering. Nobody working on the course. Weekday rates are OK, weekend rates way too high for the condition. NO red, white or blue flags at all. Clubhouse guy was too busy on phone (non golf call) to talk w/ me after the round.

As a first timer, I had a wonderful time and enjoyed my round. It was more difficult to find your way to and from the course than playing it,,, however, you will definitely need a cart as most holes are a good distance apart.. Not good to walk it. A couple holes on the course butted against a cattle farm supplying an abundance of the fresh country air, if you catch my drift. Hopefully, this won't deter you from playing... It's a great golf course.. I plan to return next time I'm in the area... ..

Greens
Great layout. Greens suck. Inexcusable for what they charge. That’s the only downside though but it’s a big one.

Greens/ Ball marks
Great condition for how much rain had fallen previously to my round. Its a shame people dont know how to fix ball marks on the greens. Only complaint i had. Great course!!
