Lots of hills
Fun course good condition. Something different than flat Florida courses.
Small greens, bad fairways
This course looks too squeezed together. Tee boxes & Fairways run next to each other and a stray shot can cause someone else damage. Fairways are very rough with many sand spots. I will not be going back.
not a lot of fun
It was a beautiful day for golf, but not at Water Oaks. The cost for the round was great but we really did not enjoy it. Some of the holes were not fair to the average golfer. They were tight and the trees seemed to always be a problem. Some of the par 5's needed two perfect shots just to see the green. The greens were readable but small. The tee boxes were also small and humped, and in some cases many bare spots. Maybe the course has been busy but there needs to be some work done to improve it.
Water oak
Enjoy the layout but course needs work especially the t boxes Chech in was very slow.
A Gem
You cannot beat this hidden gem near The Villages. Course is challenging and interesting for a FL golf course. Not at all boring and you'll use most of your clubs. Give it a try!
For the cost conscious player
Course had some challenging holes, hidden pins, water, narrow fairways. Greens were extremely hard and fast and seldom held a chip. Nice Spanish moss covered oaks. Course could be beautiful with some money put into it.
Picturesque and Challenging
This was the second time that I played this course. The course is delightful, and packed with interesting challenges.
The only negative feature encountered was the attitude of the starter. We arrived about 15 minutes early, and proceeded to the waiting area for the first tee. We were rudely and loudly approached by the starter who questioned, "What are you doing?". We explained that we were just getting into position so that when we were given the nod, we would be ready to proceed to the tee.
The starter, shaking his head in disgust, then advised us that we are golfnow people, and golfnow people do not, under any circumstance, proceed to the tee prior to their start time. He held up a cell phone that displayed the time. He then stated, "Does this clock not depict such and such a time?"
Actually, my foursome and another group were embarrassed for him. His behavior was far from appropriate.
It's been my experience that a starter's role is to facilitate timely play, not berate the players!
In spite of the starter's unprofessional representation of Water Oak, I would recommend this course!
Fun Layout
This hilly, tree lined course featuring, tight parallel fairways divided by tall oaks presents some challenging holes. No matter what skill level you play at you will still have to think your way around this track. The main drawback of this course is poor maintenance, particularly on fairways. For this reason, I recommend this course if you can get on for under $20.00.
no grass off fairway
Course in bad condition no grass on side on fairways.
Good mix of hills, trees, and water
The course is pretty tight. You have to make good shots. I enjoy the hills and the water challenged
Good value -- Wife enjoyed as well
Rain shortened round left with a good feelings and looking forward to finishing the round
Rolling terrain with some challenging water
Tree-lined fairways with overhanging limbs means you better hit straight. Accuracy beats length on most holes. You'll like the shaded porch and cold beer.
Ok in the Fairways
The course was not overly long and several of the holes were pretty tight with some over water. That was all fine. If the ball was hit into the rough, there was a good chance it would be lying on bare ground. I know that I should not be rewarded for hitting it into the rough but I think there should be something to hit off of. The main downsides were that many of the holes are so close together that there was some danger in being hit by a ball. Some areas were protected by fences but others were not. The other downside is that there are some holes on which you can't tell when the group in front of you has hit their second shots and are clear for you to hit your drives. We had to ride up the fairways a few times to be safe. Small greens but they were in pretty good shape.
Nice Course
Play this course at least once a week. Some forced carries and tree trouble if you go out of the fairway. fun course
Some great holes
Course needs some attention, leaves need to blown off fairway. Some holes are to close to one another but for the price it is a bargain
Plenty of water and elevations
Lots of elevations for a Florda course. Variety of green sizes. Nice layout in established 55 plus gated community
Overall a good experience. Will play it again.
Great course
.....The Course is well maintained and the staff is very friendly. The restuarant has great food and the course has some tough holes. Small greens, narrow fairways with alot of trees on both sides. A course to really test your skills. Will be back for sure.
League facility.
I wouldn't recommend this course for the following reasons. It is primarily a facility geared to the residents of Water Oak Estates with men's leagues, lady's leagues and mixed leagues resulting in very slow 5 hour play. The course condition is poor to average at best with postage stamp greens, sub-standard sand in the traps, narrow tree-lined fairways, up and down steep hills and some ponds to contend with. It is a short course in the mid-5000 range from the tips. It is also comparatively priced to nearby championship courses ie. way overpriced for what you get.
IN THE MIDDLE or "WATER & OAKS"
Very friendly, Lots of fun... then hole #10 Glad To Take Bogey .... Al Round A Fun Coarse. Hit em straight. ..
