The ninth hole runs only 339 yards, but the dangerous approach must cross a pond. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 03/13/2026

Seen from behind the green, a view of the 13th. This par-3 measures 125 yards and plays to an island green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 03/13/2026

Seventeen is a fine driving hole. Off the tee is trouble both right and left, and the fairway narrows after the prime landing zone. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 03/13/2026

If one hole is most likely to wreck your card, it is the par-4 18th (index #1), whose large water hazard threatens both the drive and second shot. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 03/13/2026

Judging by its pancake-like shell, this appears to be a Florida softshell turtle, who was traveling cautiously from pond to pond across the eleventh tee. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 03/13/2026

A superlative short par-3, the fourth features a raised and well-contoured green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 02/20/2026

At the par-4 tenth, it takes a straight drive to find this narrow fairway. It’s not unusual, though, to find the water. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 02/20/2026

Fifteen just may be the finest par-3 at Schalamar. Measuring as long as 224 yards, it demands an excellent shot for a GIR. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 02/20/2026

2nd Hole: Par-5, 519 yards: The driving zone allows for a slashing drive off the tee, but on the second shot (viewed here) the fairway narrows like an hourglass. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 02/18/2025

6th Hole: Par-3, 180: A lengthy bunker nabs misplayed shots to the right and front of green six, as seen from the woodland. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 02/18/2025

9th Hole: Par-4: Although 339 yards, this index 6 hole challenges you on every shot. A hook off the tee spells deep, watery trouble. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 02/18/2025

Running as long as 400 yards, the 10th threatens not only with a daunting array of hazards—water, sand, trees, OOB–but also a tight fairway. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 02/18/2025

This large pond encircles what is virtually an island green at the par-3, 125 yard thirteenth. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 02/18/2025

The # 6-index hole, fourteen features a brilliant design, a trio of well-placed bunkers, and a long, lateral water hazard. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 02/18/2025

And gators too Photo submitted by Robert3304776 on 04/09/2013
Big change from last year, the grass wasn’t cut.
The green were terrible, weeds all over, grass wasn’t cut from the tee boxes to the fairways.
Staff
Starter was very obnoxious I don’t mind being told about doing something wrong but when my age and pace of play is brought up when no one is behind me and no one caught up to me all day long Starter needs to know what he’s talking about. Please find someone who knows what they’re doing.
Great layout
Quite wet from aĺl the rain we had in the last week .
Terrible conditions
Course was very crowded and pace of play was extremely slow. Greens were in terrible condition and back 9 holes were very wet. We will not be returning.
Don’t play if it’s been rainy
The course is a tight and short step above executive type course. Half of the holes are surrounded by nature and are beautiful , the others are in a nice neighborhood. We had rain for several days before this round. The course does not drain well at all! I lost balls in the fairways and around the green because they were “plugged” in the ground. Standing water on every fairway. I will play there again, but only after dry days and never after the rain.
Greens mottled with crab grass
A demanding layout requiring strategic thinking. Must keep tree shots in play & in most cases a 200 yd drive in the fairway will help with scoring. The problem though is the conditions which punishes both tee & approach shots missed. Bare patches, mud & mixture of grasses make scoring extremely difficult. Courses where you have to work your way around ask that conditions be good enough to provide the player with a chance. I didn’t have one putt where crab grass was not in the line & even if you moved the ball, it does not obviate such interference. To make matters worse, the course was wet, lots of mud balls, it was cart path only because of overseeding of the fairways. Hopefully that helps.. Inconsistent green side bunkers some with little sand and some seemingly with new sand. Unfortunately, while I love to play the course again, it would be too frustrating given the course conditions particularly the greens.
Slow players
For the love of God will someone please tell other golfers about golf etiquette and that if you are a slow player to let faster players play through. Took way too long to get a round in because of this. And it’s not this course it’s all over the Tampa area.
Other than that staff was great, course itself is good but greens could be better. Layout is good and a fun course. I will be back soon.
Schalamar Creek
This is a course that I have played quite often. The greens were probably in the worst shape that I recall seeing them in, there was quite a bit of broadleaf grass growing on the greens. They had overseeded and the rule of the day was cart path only. Hopefully they’re able to get the greens back in good shape quickly. Probably be a while before I play here again.
Needs work
M.any weeds in the greens which made the ball bounce. Cart paths need work. Tee boxes were in bad shape. The fairways were in decent
shape. It was very wet in front of most of the greens
Love this course
Got off fast. Greens were fast and challenging. Little wet in spots but great overall. Keep up the good work and we'll be back.
Absolutely horrible
The course was so wet, weedy and unkempt it was awful. It was slow too which made it even worse. My husband hit into a par three and the ball landed on the green and sunk! We had to dig it out. There were huge track marks on the fairways from green staff vehicles. The greens were full of weeds or bald. New sections had been laid but we're sticking up like badly fitted carpet tiles. The fairways were either weeds or mud. It was just horrible. The only upside was the nice restaurant afterwards with it's excellent staff. Sorry will not return.
Nice layout horrible field
When I say field, I mean I’ve seen better grass in fields or in the middle of i4. The tee boxes, fairways, and greens were HORRIBLE! Don’t waste your money! Reading the reviews from pre-Covid you you would have thought this place was great, but it need’s closed and all the grass replaced.
Overall, a fun course!
Great staff! Course play is slow, because it’s inexpensive and busy. Greens are in poor condition but the fairways and course layout are good. I’ve played here before and will definitely play here again.
Dovid Goldfarb
First time playing. Nice layout for the holes. For some reason the course was very wet. I think they had a sprinkler malfunction, since there has been no significant rain in the last two weeks. The greens definitely need some work. Burnt out spots and crabgrass. Would rate the course much higher if that is corrected.
Greens Stink - Good Iron Play
Don’t go here to practice your putting. When it’s not soaked the fairways are decent. Great affordable place for practice rounds.
Sadly disappointed
Played this course twice last year and was so looking forward to playing it this year.
Unfortunately the course has deteriorated? Weeds in the greens, tee boxes nowhere near as nice as 12 months ago and the bunkers needed a good rake over. The fairways were nice as were the approaches to the greens.
We got a great deal on Golf now so we can’t complain too much. I was not looking for a deal I was looking more for the course we played last year. The staff (starter, Pro Shop catering) were all very friendly and welcoming. I will try this course again next year in hope the get the course back to a good state of repair. Please don’t let this little gem slip to the way side.
