The Sanctuary Golf Course at Pennbrooke Fairways

About
Situated less than an hour from Orlando, Pennbrooke Fairways in Leesburg is one of the top spots for golf in Lake County, Florida. There are three different nines available, the executive Meadow and Oaks Courses, and the Sanctuary nine, a regulation course. Like the Oaks and Meadow nines, the Sanctuary has five different sets of tees available. There are two par-5 holes that will please long hitters and they also present some of the toughest challenges. The first par 5 you'll encounter narrows severely at the landing area, forcing you to choose between a safe layup and an ambitious drive. Bunkers are strategically placed throughout and there are also ponds and marshland that come into play. All three of the par-3 holes bring water into play. Pennbrooke Fairways' Sanctuary golf course doesn't have the same walkability the others have due to the 500-foot bridge that spans a protected wildlife area and swamp.

Pace of play
Played Sanctuary (1:56 pace) and Meadows (1:34 pace) courses. Staff encouraged us to speed up play since there were two holes open in front of our foursome. The group in front was a twosome and play was backed up in back of us. First group of players in back of our foursome was a group of 3 gentlemen playing from the forward tees. While our pace of play was not blazing fast, we were playing AT PACE with what management had posted. Perhaps some more active engagement by the starter would have been helpful for all concerned. This kind of "encouragement" can seem like a mild form of harassment (in the moment) but is understandable from a membership point of view.
3/2/2019 Course review
Pennbrooke offers 3 nine hole courses. Two short and one regulation sized. The course is poorly kept up with ant hills in all the fairways and tee boxes. The greens on the other hand are in excellent shape and run a little slowly. Not recommended for the advanced player.
Course in very good condition
Staff very helpful & welcoming. The course was in really good condition. The greens were particularly good & pretty quick.
You get what you pay for
We’re trying courses in the area we’ve never played before. This was a first time. It’s an easy drive for us. However we’d rather drive an hour, pay more and have great conditions for a more enjoyable experience.
Good value for the money
If you don't mind playing a regulation 9 and an executive 9 for your 18, you might find this course interesting. The holes are well designed and thought out, and the tees and fairways are in decent shape. The greens are in excellent shape right now, perhaps the best conditions in the area.
You are not likely to get a better value in the dead of winter here. The Sanctuary course is nice, and the other two nines are just pleasant, short executive length layouts.
Nice coarse for good practice
Been playing this coarse for a month on Saturday with unlimited ( we normally played 27)golf which was nice considering the 2 shorter coarse play fast , but this last Saturday we were informed that we could only play 18 because we paid thru golf now at a discount rate. We were told they changed because the carts are being occupied even though there was 15 plus cart waiting when we left. Just a heads up for anybody else that played on Saturday before.

Pennbrooke fairways has never offered an "all you can play" for Golf Now customers. Golf Now specifically states 9 or 18 holes. Should you have any further questions or concerns please contact me at 352-728-3200. Thank you. Sue Mann, Pro Shop Manager
27 holes of sub-par golf
3 separate 9-hole courses leave much to be desired. A par 35, 32 & 30 could easily be an excellent par-72 18 hole course. The layouts are nice, and the course was well maintained. It just left much to be desired with 2 out of the 3 9-hole courses.
Pennbrooke fairways
The course is great for seniors the two short courses are excellent for your short game and the long nine will test your game.
It will be nice when the power company is done digging.
A decent challenge for the money
Both the Sanctuary and Meadows are in pretty good shape for this time of year. The price is right, and you will enjoy the Sanctuary as a full-length nine. The Meadows (and the Oaks) are executive length, but still interesting if you can accept 200 yard par 4's and a bunch of sub-100-yard par 3's. Pace of play was fine and the greens were in great shape. Beats shoveling snow in February any day of the week!
Great game
Played with Dave and Karen Watts for the 2nd time there and we all had a great time, even Dave started to play his REAL GAME after 4 holes ! Good fun and be back again.

Course
Sanctuary was backed up, Oaks played quickly. Fairways are rough—recent rains affected their condition. Staff is great.
Good value for the dollar
Unusual course layout! One regulation 9 and two executive 9s. We had a great time and lunch was awesome.
Sanctuary is a nice course. The Oaks and Meadows are both very short and not in as good a condition as The Sanctuary. Overall was good value for the money- paid $15 for as much golf as you wanted to play.
Needs work
Needs a lot of work. Tee box’s and geeens loaded with weeds. Friendly staff. Not sure how it received high ratings before our visit.
I would like to know what time you played your round. We do not have rangers at our course. Please contact me so I can get further information. Thank you.
